See it clearly

If, like much of the world, you have less-than-perfect vision, you'll probably remember the first time you were given a professionally prescribed pair of eyeglasses and slipped them on to survey your new world. The breathtaking experience of seeing everything with enhanced clarity and focus has probably stuck with you. So when we tell you that you've never experienced anything like Nikon's EDG series of precision sport optics, keep that first pair of glasses in mind. While there are lots of binoculars in this world, it's doubtful you've used any as spectacularly clear and bright as the EDG series.

The difference is in the craft

Every aspect of Nikon's EDG 8 x 42 binoculars testify to their pedigree and legendary build quality. From the lightweight yet rugged magnesium-alloy body, to the meticulously crafted extra-low dispersion glass lenses, to the dielectric high-reflective multilayer prism coatings that preserve almost all the brightness you can perceive with your naked eye, the EDG 8 x 42 binoculars reposition your point-of-view in space. You'll feel like you're up close and seeing things as you would naturally. It sounds simple, but only an optical instrument with this kind of craftsmanship can deliver an experience that feels as true and intimate as this. Innovations like Nikon's Field Flattener lens system minimize field curvature, with the end result being images that are sharp and undistorted even at the periphery of your view.

Speedy and secure

The body's rubber armor coating ensures that you'll maintain a secure grip in any weather, and the dual-focus knob with locking diopter adjustment will allow you to quickly adjust to changing scenes in a fluid manner. An O-ring sealed and nitrogen-filled design means fogproof and waterproof performance. In fact, EDG binoculars can withstand up to 10 minutes submerged in up to 16.4 feet of water.

    Product Research

Overview: The Nikon EDG 8 x 42 waterproof binocular provides superb optical performance in the field under virtually any conditions. The sturdy, magnesium-alloy body makes it lightweight without sacrificing durability. It features high-quality optics and prisms to give you bright, clear images. The EDG 8 x 42 comes with a neck strap and a soft, leather storage case.

Waterproof: The EDG 8 x 42 is nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to prevent fogging, and to protect the internal optics from condensation and mold. The binoculars should suffer no damage to the optical system if submerged or dropped in water to a maximum depth of 5 meters (16.4') for up to 10 minutes. The EDG binoculars can be used in areas of high humidity or rain without worry.

ED Glass Lenses: The EDG 8 x 42 binoculars feature Nikon's legendary ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass for remarkably sharp resolution and high-contrast images. ED Glass minimizes color fringing caused by chromatic aberration. The Field-Flattener lens design produces flat images that are sharp throughout the view.

Multi-layer Coatings: Nikon applies an advanced multi-layer coating to all lens and prism surfaces for superior light transmission and bright, clear views, even in difficult conditions. These coatings minimize light reflections to reduce ghosting. The interior of the lens barrel and other internal parts are painted matte black to prevent flare and ghosting.

Focus Knob/Diopter: The EDG 8 x 42 has a smooth, central quick focus knob for bringing your subject into focus. The knob is paired with pop-up diopter adjustments to help you quickly set the binoculars for your personal eyesight. The diopter control locks to prevent misalignment.

Horn-shaped Rubber Eyecups: The ergonomically shaped eyecups help block out external light to give you a clearer view of your subject. The eyecups provide long eye relief, while the ratcheting turn-and-slide eyecup adjustments let you use the binoculars with or without eyeglasses.

Rubber Coating: The body of the EDG 8 x 42 has a durable rubber-armored coating to give you a non-slip grip, and to protect the binoculars in virtually any weather.
