And with Nikon's VR II vibration reduction, you'll be able to work in less light than you'd expect, thanks to the slower shutter speeds you'll be able to use while keeping your images sharp. Plus, it's lightweight and compact compared to many other lenses of similar power, so it's perfect for times when you're on the move.

Fantastic lens with ease of use and crisp details on all pictures. If you want to carry only one lens while traveling - this is the one. Beautiful lens.

Dottie from Brownsville, TX on 4/10/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great lens, great results! The pictures are sharp and clear, yet produce beautiful soft effects when zooming in and using it as a macro lens. I've gotten some clear, sharp subjects (flowers, bees, bugs 'n stuff) when fully zooming in and being only about 6" from the subject. Great for the wee tiny Spring weed flowers. The blended colors of the background serve as a beautiful backdrop for the object. To be able to zoom in on a close-up picture and then immediately zoom out to capture something static or moving at a great distance away and in the next minute get another great picture in the middle makes it a great all around lens to have.

Pros: Being able to shoot both great close ups as well as great pictures zooming in on subjects far away and in the middle. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a large array of A+, #1 possibilities with just one lens. What a joy it is!

Cons: Perhaps a bit heavy for some, but the great results and possibilities far outweigh the extra weight. I no longer notice or pay attention to the extra weight, so I really do not consider it a con - just something to quickly get used to.

One must have zoom lens !

Ronaldoverdahlimagemaker from MIDWEST on 7/7/2013

Its sharp-A great all in one travel lens with vr- best option if you can manage 5.6 aperture at 300mm. I would suggest you pair it with a 180F 2.8.

Pros: Feels like a lens-One zoom that does it all.

Cons: none

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a solid lens. The zoom is magnificent. Picture quality is great. I am heading to Paris in a couple days and I can not wait to begin shooting there. This is my zoom lens.

Pros: Great picture quality and range of zoom

Cons: This lens has some weight to it.

Versatile Lens

Charles H from Maryville, TN on 5/27/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm mostly interested in nature photography, so this lens is the perfect match for my photography needs. I've only owned the camera (Nikon D7100) and lens for a few weeks, but already, I've been able to capture shots I'd otherwise have missed in the past, because of having to change lenses. The lens size and weight makes the camera a bit heavy, so a tripod, especially on set-up shots and tele-photo shots, is more necessary. That's a very small trade-off for the versatility of this lens.

Pros: Not having to change lenses means fewer missed opportunities. It also means less equipment to carry.

Cons: Lens size and weight makes the camera a bit heavy.

Wonderful addition

Mlight from Texas on 11/6/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The best as a walking around lens. Very fast focusing, great for those quick landscape photos, yet you're able to still get those close-ups. You can dump a lot of extra lenses when traveling...you need just this one! By the way, some complain that it's heavy. If you're used to shooting with a telephoto in the 55-300 range, there really is no difference in weight. Crutchfield is the BEST when it comes to service.

Pros: Terrific focal range, fast, decent color

Cons: None so far

Great lens!

Alex_C from Houston, TX on 8/25/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A fantastic lens, and a great alternative to having to lug around a 18-55mm+55-300mm lens. Not only it is sharper and faster to focus than the 55-300, but not having to switch lenses when in a hurry, is a big advantage. It is on the heavy side, but well worth it.

Pros: Great range, sharp images, fantastic VR II vibration reduction, f/3.5 at 18mm.

Cons: A little heavier than the 18-200mm, but not too bad.

Features

Overview: The AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR is an all-in-one zoom lens which covers a wide variety of shooting situations from wide-angle to high-power zoom. It is optimized for use with DX-format Nikon digital SLR cameras. Its 35mm equivalent focal length is 27-450mm.

Construction: The three Extra-low Dispersion (ED) elements and three aspherical lenses control chromatic aberrations while enhancing sharpness and contrast even at the widest aperture settings.

Nikon Super Integrated Coating (SIC): SIC offers superior color performance and substantially reduced ghosting and flare.

Built-in CPU: The lens has a built-in CPU which allows it to communicate with the camera body for focus and exposure functions. A set of CPU contacts is located on the lens mount for interfacing with the camera body.

Auto Focus: Nikon's Silent Wave Motor (SWM) enables ultra-high-speed autofocusing with exceptional accuracy and super-quiet operation. The manual/auto focus mode switch allows quick response to situations requiring manual focus operation.

Zoom Control: The lens features a large, textured manual zoom ring for easy zooming control.

Vibration Reduction (VR II): Vibration reduction minimizes the effects of camera shake allowing you to shoot handheld at as many as 4 shutter speed stops slower than would otherwise be possible, assuring dramatically sharper images. You can turn vibration reduction on or off with the switch on the side of the lens.

Aperture: Because there is no aperture ring on this lens, the aperture must be set on the camera.

Diaphragm: The lens is equipped with a fully-automatic, 9-blade diaphragm that produces a nearly circular aperture. Out-of-focus images in front of or behind the subject are rendered as pleasing blurs.

Lens Hood: The lens includes the HB-58 lens hood to protect the lens and block stray light that would otherwise cause flare or ghosting. The lens hood can be reversed and mounted on the lens when not in use. When installed, the lens hood adds approximately 2" to the overall length of the lens.
