Overview

Our take on the Nikon MB-D14

A must have for Nikon D600 enthusiasts, this battery grip from Nikon gives you extended shooting time plus increased comfort and balance as you snap photos. It attaches to the bottom of your D600, providing a convenient grip when holding the camera in the vertical position. It offers a shutter release button, front and rear command dials, and a joystick control for setting focus points. The magnesium frame and rubberized surfaces match your D600 perfectly and give it a more professional look and feel. The grip holds an optional EN-EL15 Nikon battery, or lets you operate your camera using six "AA" batteries (not included).

Item arrived faster than I expected. Great service. Item arrived in manufacturers packaging. Right out of the box worked as promised. Almost no real setup required for use the camera recognized it immediately and the default settings were the ones I wanted anyway

Useful accessory

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The battery grip is a very nice addition to the camera. It has a solid feel and integrates well into the D610. The second battery is very useful but the main advantage of the grip is the vertical shutter button. My only complaint is not so much about the grip but the battery door on the camera body. It would be very nice to not have to unscrew the grip to charge the battery inside the phone. The grip itself is well made with tight tolerances and the battery tray slides in tight and is easy to operate.

Pros: - Greatly extends time you can do shoots without having to stop or fumble with changing batteries. - The vertical shutter release button makes life easier for taking vertical images. - Place built in to hold the rubber gasket that covers the connection on the camera so you won't lose it. - Looks cool and gives you a way to hold the camera firmly in the vertical position.

Cons: - Definitely adds bulk to the camera. Make sure your bag can deal with it. - Unless you do lots of vertical shots or need the extended battery the cost isn't really justifiable (unless its thrown in for free with the kit). - Annoying having to remove it every time you want to charge the primary battery in the camera. - Others might disagree but it could be heavier or a bit wider. With a standard zoom (24-85) the camera will lean forward and rest on the lens when put on a table.

Item arrived faster than I expected. Great service. Item arrived in manufacturers packaging. Right out of the box worked as promised. Almost no real setup required for use the camera recognized it immediately and the default settings were the ones I wanted anyway

Pros: Good price, works as promised, extends life of camera without the need to switch batteries mid shoot, easy to view status on camera menu

Cons: The instructions were written in such a way that it was understandable but not intuitive. attaching to camera was slightly harder than expected (line up spots and turn dial to seal it to camera body)

A grip is 100% necessary

Wish it wasn't expensive, but I can't use my camera without a grip nowadays. Well put together and the extra battery definitely helps. Just wish it fit the contours of the body better. It's not bad, just could be better.

Pros: Extra battery, great build, evens out the camera body

Cons: Expensive

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The MB-D14 grip really helps with the handling on the camera. Yes, it adds a little bulk, but it definitely improves the ergonomics and gives your pinky finger a place to rest. The portrait mode is much more comfortable to use too. As a casual shooter, I don't have the need for the second set of batteries in the grip, so I don't use them to keep the weight down. It's nice to know that I can use AA batteries if I need to without having to buy a second Nikon battery. This one fits better than the one on my D7000. There's no wobble to it at all. As always, great customer service by Crutchfield as well.

Pros: Great handling. Professional look and feel.

Cons:

Nikon MB-D14 Battery Grip for Nikon D600 Camera

JeffS from Alliance, Ohio on 10/15/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Best fitting battery grip to date- although expensive and it doesn't make the camera shutter speed any faster, having the extra battery backup allows for hours of shooting. Another well made Nikon accessory!

Pros: Fit, power and shape allows for vertical shooting

Cons: price
