Why choose bookshelf speakers?

Bookshelf speakers may be small in size, but they can deliver surprisingly big sound. Some ultra-compact models even fit on a desktop. Most are right at home in tight spaces like shelves, so they're usually good choices for your home theater's rear channels. For the best performance, try placing bookshelf speakers on solid speaker stands to help the sound really "open up." If you want full bass impact, add a powered subwoofer and enjoy punchy sound that's as deeply satisfying as that of floor-standing speakers.

Features

Transmitter: The system comes with a Radio Frequency omnidirectional transmitter/charger that connects to an audio source via analog stereo preamp connection. It transmits a 900 MHz signal up to 250 feet to the wireless speakers, using one of three selectable transmission channels. A channel select switch on the transmitter allows the use of other 900MHz equipment in the same area as the speakers are being used to avoid interference.

Speakers: The self-powered, 7.5 watt speakers are a Two-way acoustic suspension design. Each speaker features a 2" dome tweeter and 5" cone woofer with a 20 to 20kHz frequency response. The speakers have a left/mono/right switch on the back so you can use the speakers as a stereo pair in one room or as separate mono speakers in different rooms. Each speaker is powered by either the supplied AC power adapters or by 8 "C"-cell batteries (not included). Four phillips-head screws will need to removed to access battery compartment on back of each speaker.

Note: If you are using rechargeable batteries, the batteries will charge when the speakers are powered with the AC power adapters. The AC adapters will charge rechargeable NiMH or NiCd batteries (not included).

Audio Signal Indicator Light: There is an audio signal  indicator light on front of the transmitter that lights Blue to inform you that the transmitter is receiving an audio signal from your source component.

Integrated Power/Tuning Volume Control: Each speaker has an integrated Power/Tuning/Volume knob on the front below its grill. Push the rotary knob in to turn the power for the speakers "On" and to start tuning the speakers. The "standby/charging indicators" on the front of the speakers will illuminate red while the speakers are automatically tuning to the transmitter. The "tuned" indicators on front of each speaker will illuminate blue indicating that the speaker are tuned to the transmitter. Now you can use the integrated knob to adjust the volume of the speakers up and down by rotating the knob.

Note: Once the speakers have tuned to the transmitter and the blue "Tuned" indicators are on, the red "standby/charging" indicators will turn off.

Auto Tune: The speaker will automatically retune if it loses the signal from the transmitter. However, you can also push the integrated control to retune the speakers at any time. While the speaker is tuning, the blue "tuned" indicator will turn off and the red "standby/charging" indicator light will turn on.

Phase-Locked Loop: Phase-Locked Loop technology guarantees crystal clear audio from the speaker by locking onto the transmitter's signal for more precise, accurate tuning.

Turn Off: Push and hold the integrated control in for about 1.5 seconds to turn the speakers off. Confirm that the speakers are off by verifying that the red and blue light are off.

Built-In Carry Handle: Each speaker's built-in carry handle lets you move the speakers easily from room to room.

Connections

Transmitter: The 900Mz transmitter uses an attached 6' male mini-jack cable and comes supplied with a mini to stereo RCA adapter and a 3/4" headphone adapter. The unit also features a DC input for use with the supplied AC adapter.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installation was a snap. The sound quality is excellent. The receiving range is better than expected. The only problem is my 900mhz portable phone will broadcast over the speakers under some conditions.

Acoustic Research AW877

Written By Kenneth, California on Sunday, January 04, 2009

I got these speakers for Christmas last year. Best gift ever!! I highly recommend investing in some quality NiMH batteries for truly wireless sound. The sound is clear and strong anywhere in or around the house. Battery life is around 4-8 hours depending on type and volume of music. They get a bit static-y as the batteries wear down or if there are more than 3 or so walls between the speakers and transmitter. The constant blue LED on the transmitter is very bright and a bit annoying, but it's
nothing a piece of black electrical tape couldn't take care of.
Overall: Highly recommended.

Speaker is of poor quality

One of the speakers barely relects the blue light when receiving the siganl
from the transmitter. Also the same speaker snaps and pops frequently
when in use. The pther speaker is fine

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had several wierless systems, but these are far above the others. Excellent sound and no interference.
