Why choose bookshelf speakers?

Bookshelf speakers may be small in size, but they can deliver surprisingly big sound. Some ultra-compact models even fit on a desktop. Most are right at home in tight spaces like shelves, so they're usually good choices for your home theater's rear channels. For the best performance, try placing bookshelf speakers on solid speaker stands to help the sound really "open up." If you want full bass impact, add a powered subwoofer and enjoy punchy sound that's as deeply satisfying as that of floor-standing speakers.

Very good, but lack bass

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I use a mid 70's Marantz 2245 to drive these speakers. The sound is very clear and crisp, especially in the mid and high range. I really enjoy classical music with string instruments on them. They are not to big and fit easily on a book shelf, but weigh about 18 lbs combined. They do need to be separated from the wall to allow for as much bass as possible, due to the back side port.

Pros: Bright, clear, crisp sound. Small size. Price can't be beat for sound quality.

Cons: Need separate bass speaker if you want hard hitting bass. Make sure you amplifier can drive a 4 Ohm speaker

OK speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had to do some tweaking of the bass and treble. After that was done the sound was acceptable.

Pros: Size and appearance.

Cons: The terminals are awkward.

Two-Way Speaker Design: Each TEAC LS-H70A bookshelf loudspeaker features a two-way driver design that consists of a 1" soft-dome tweeter and a 4.75" OMF woofer with ribbed surround.

Bass Reflex Enclosure: The TEAC LS-H70A bookshelf loudspeakers employ a bass reflex cabinet with a rear-firing port for greater efficiency and bigger bass response. The cabinets are wrapped in a wood-grain vinyl and come with detachable cloth grilles.

5-Way Binding Posts: The bookshelf speakers are fitted with 5-way binding-posts which will accept bare wire (up to 12AWG), pin-connectors, spade connectors, and banana plugs (single or dual). The binding posts are color-coded (red/black) for easy identification between positive and negative.

Mounting Options: The bookshelf speakers are designed to be placed vertically on a table-top, shelf, or stands. The speakers do not include any type of wall-mount bracket or keyhole slots. The optional PinPoint heavy duty side-grip wall-mounting bracket (121AM40B, sold separately) can be used to wall mount the speakers.

Customer Q&A

1 question already asked

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The CR-H260i receiver will power these speakers without any issue. You won't get close to concert level sound, but should be able to get plenty of volume for a typical home room. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Jun 27, 2014 ]  Staff
