Built solid for superior performance

TEAC puts a lot into their players, so you get a lot out of them. The '501HR's slot-loading disc transport features VACS (Vibration Acoustic Control Structure). This highly effective damping mechanism eliminates vibration to ensure accurate disc reading for maximum sound quality. TEAC also used Cirrus Logic's tried-and-true CS4398 digital-to-analog converter for its extended dynamic range and low-noise performance. Separate power supplies for the digital and analog circuitry minimize interference for exceptionally quiet operation. And the player's full-metal construction with heavy-gauge aluminum front, top, and side panels not only control vibration for better stability, they give the PD-501HR a handsome, classic appearance that looks fantastic in any system or room.

Features

High-Performance CD-Player: The TEAC PD-501HR is a high-performance CD player with 20-80kHz of frequency response, 116dB of S/N ratio, 118dB dynamic range, and 0.004% of THD on PCM playback. The PD-501HR supports playback of  PCM/WAV files on recordable CD discs, plus PCM/WAV and DSD music files on recordable DVD discs.

  • Disc Compatibility: The TEAC PD-501HR supports CD-DA, CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW discs (ISO 9660 Level 1/2/Joilet). The PD-501HR also supports DVD-ROM, DVD-R/RW, and DVD+R/RW discs (UDF). Only 12cm discs can be used. DVD-Video and SACD discs are not supported.
  • Supported Audio Formats:  The TEAC PD-501HR disc player supports CD-Audio (44.1kHz; 16-bit) on CD-DA discs, as well as PCM/WAV (44.1/48kHz; 16 or 24-bit) on CD-ROM/-R/-RW discs. It also supports PCM/WAV (44.1/48/88.2/96/176.4/192kHz; 16 or 24-bit) and DSD (2.8/5.6MHz) music files on DVD-ROM/-R/-RW/+R/+RW discs. Not compatible with MP3, WMA, AAC, FLAC, and other audio files not listed above.
Note: Discs that contain more than 999 folders and files in total might not play back properly.

Pure Mode: Conventional DSD processors convert PCM files prior to converting to an analog signal. The PD-501HR employs a "Pure Mode", processing DSD into an analog signal directly. This lets you enjoy pure DSD sound that normal PCM-conversion can't.

VACS (Vibration Acoustic Control Structure): While reading signals from an audio disc, vibrations may cause a read error and negatively affect the sound quality by missing some of the original data on the disc. To eliminate vibrations and reach perfect data reading, the PD-501HR employs a unique vibration control mechanism, VACS, for a smooth rotation. After dozens of evaluation tests the VACS instrument was chosen and fixed to the drive of the unit in order to achieve the best possible performance.

Cirrus Logic CS4398 DAC: A celebrated CS4398 24-bit/192kHz DAC by Cirrus Logic is utilized to achieve 118dB of dynamic range. The CS4398 DAC also employs un-damped volume control and a Mismatch Shaping Technology to eliminate distortion caused by capacitor mismatching.

JRC NJM5532 Operational Amplifier: The field-proven and well-reputed JRC's NJM5532 operational amplifier has been applied to the analog circuits.

6-Layer Circuit Boards: In order to reduce the signal paths throughout the circuits, each part has been carefully laid out on 6-layer glass-epoxy motherboards. This design reduces and simplifies the signal paths and helps improve the sound quality.

Separated Power Supplies: Separate power supplies for the digital and analog sections help prevent digital noise that can leak across the sections over the current. Schottky Barrier Diodes are also employed on the rectifier circuit to supply cleaner current by eliminating rectification noise.

Analog & Digital Outputs: The PD-501HR is fitted with both analog and digital outputs. It features on analog stereo output (RCA), one optical (toslink) digital output, and one coaxial (RCA) digital output.

Note: The sampling frequency and bit rate used by the digital outputs (COAXIAL and OPTICAL) are the same as for the playback source. During DSD playback or CD/PCM playback in pure mode, however, nothing is output from the digital outputs

Well-Designed Controls: Spun metal finished transport buttons with short stroke and an easy-to-recognize toggle switch gives the user assured operation. Even the remote control is designed with an aluminum facia on top for a luxurious finish.

Full-Metal Construction: Not only the front panel, both side and top panels are made of aluminum and attached to a robust steel chassis. These heavy parts eliminate vibrations and allow all internal circuits to always perform under stable conditions. An A4-sized body allows users to place the unit in small spaces. The PD-501HR defines a new standard that fits all modern interior with great space-saving design and a timeless presence.

Green Technology: The PD-501HR maintains low power consumption without sacrificing sound quality. With a 11W of power consumption, a selectable power saving mode and 0.1W of power consumption during standby, the PD-501HR can truly be called "green technology".

Auto Power Save: The unit will automatically enter standby mode if there is no audio output for 30 minutes.
