About the TEAC UD-H01
Desktop digital dynamo
Desktop digital dynamo
TEAC's UD-H01 digital-to-analog converter proves that full-sized sound doesn't always require a full-sized component. Just plug your computer into this compact desktop DAC's USB input to enjoy big-time sound qualiy with the music on your PC. The TEAC works wonders with uncompressed high-res and lossless music files. And even Internet streaming audio sources sound more fleshed out — not just listenable but actually enjoyable. The UD-H01 performs much better than even high-quality sound cards, which are handicapped by having to operate in the noisy environment inside your computer. Plus, its classy, slimline form will look great in your home or office.
Ready for high-res music
Versatile digital music handling comes courtesy of dual built-in Burr-Brown DACs that support high-resolution sampling rates and bit depths up to 192kHz/32-bits. The UD-H01's asynchronous USB input allows the DAC to control the timing clock signal instead of your computer, reducing jitter to the lowest levels possible for smoother, more detailed sound. The TEAC website has all the free USB driver downloads you'll need for computer playback available online. The UD-H01 also takes advantage of a beefy toroidal transformer-based power supply and dual-mono circuit design throughout for powerful sound, optimum channel separation, and clear stereo imaging.
The ins and outs
The TEAC UD-H01 sports multiple inputs and outputs to handle your audio system's needs.
This DAC features three inputs: the aforementioned USB, plus two digital inputs (1 coax, 1 optical) for connecting a CD/DVD player, game console, or other audio device with a digital output. You also get both unbalanced RCA and balanced XLR audio output connectors to hook up a pair of powered speakers or an external amplifier. Or, keep your listening immersive and private by plugging in to the headphone output on the front panel.

Features
USB Audio DAC: The TEAC UD-H01 features coaxial and optical S/P DIF digital audio inputs, as well as a USB port to allow use as a high-quality D/A converter. These digital inputs connect to a premium-quality Burr Brown PCM1795 dual DAC with up to 192kHz/32-bit audio resolution for the highest-quality sources. The device can receive data asynchronously meaning the timing signal is included reducing jitter to the absolute lowest level. Input sources can even be up-converted to higher sampling rates for smoother audio quality. Output terminals include gold-plated RCA connectors, line-level output and XLR balanced output terminals for connection to a full-fledged high-end operation amplifier.
Dual Monaural Configuration with Independent Left/Right DACs: The TEAC UD-H01 incorporates two 32-bit/192kHz Burr Brown D/A converters (PCM1795); one for each channel. The dual-monaural configuration eliminates interference between the channels for maximum performance from the D/A converters. A shunt-regulator circuit supplies the current to the D/A converters in order to eliminate ground noise generated by fluctuations in the supply voltage
192kHz Up-Conversion: All digital input signals are converted to 192kHz via non-integral up-sampling, dramatically reducing jitter and allowing consistent D/A conversion based on the high-precision internal clock. ASRC (Asynchronous Sampling Rate Converter) is used to produce a natural, 192kHz high-sampling rate digital audio signal.
Supported Formats: The TEAC UD-H01 is the perfect DAC for playback of high-resolution computer formats like FLAC, WAV, and Apple Lossless. Its three digital inputs (optical/coaxial/USB) support sampling rates of 32, 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4, and 19kHz. 16- and 24-bit rates are supported. There are six front-panel LEDs (44.1/48/88.2/96/176.4/192) to indicate which sampling frequency is being input.
USB Type-B Port for Computer Audio Streaming: The TEAC UD-H01 features a USB (type-B) port for connecting your Windows PC or Mac computer. The UD-H01 digitally transfers audio source material stored on your computer to your connected amplifier at up to 24-bit/192kHz. The UD-H01 also supports USB asynchronous mode, which uses its precise internal clock to control timing and eliminate jitter issues. This allows optimal playback of high-resolution digital audio files from playlists/libraries in your iTunes, Windows Media Player, or similar playback programs on your computer. This unit does not offer control over your computer's music files.
Note: Before using the UD-H01 with your computer, you will need to download and install the dedicate TEAC driver on your Windows PC or MAC. Supported operating systems included Windows (XP*/Vista/7/8) and Mac OS X (Snow Leopard/Lion/Mountain Lion). *Windows XP Professional x64 Edition is not supported.
Optical & Coaxial Digital Inputs: The TEAC UD-H01 is fitted with optical (toslink) and coaxial (RCA) digital inputs for connection of other digital audio sources like your CD, DVD, or Blu-ray player. These digital inputs will accept two channel linear PCM (not Dolby Digital/DTS).
Independent Balanced & Unbalanced Outputs: For output to powered speakers or an amplifier, a Muse 8920 dual-operation line amplifier terminates to gold-plated stereo RCA and balanced XLR outputs. The output circuit is completely independent in the left and right sides for optimum channel separation and clear stereo imaging.
Stereo Headphone Amp: The same high-quality operational amplifier used for line output is used for headphone amplifier output. A dedicated high-quality aluminum knob controls the headphone volume. This allows users to enjoy a high-sampling-rated digital audio in spaces with neighbors close by, or other situations where speaker playback might disturb others. The unit is fitted with a front-panel 1/4" headphone jack.
High-Performance Power Supply: The UD-H01 uses a high-capacity toroidal-core power supply transformer capable of providing a stable current with high efficiency. This minimizes flux leakage and eliminates noise generated by electromagnetic induction.
