Overview

Our take on the Boston Acoustics CS 225C

Do you sometimes find yourself backing up while you watch DVDs, in order to catch a bit of unclear dialogue? The speakers built into TVs tend to fall short when it comes to whispered, mumbled, or detailed dialogue. As part of a home theater system, this center channel speaker has the range and subtlety to deliver rich, lifelike dialogue and special effects with your movies and TV shows.

The speakers built into TVs tend to fall short when it comes to whispered, mumbled, or detailed dialogue. As part of a home theater system, this center channel speaker has the range and subtlety to deliver rich, lifelike dialogue and special effects with your movies and TV shows.

You'll hear precise, crystal-clear highs thanks to this speaker's 1" soft dome tweeter. And dual 5-1/4" graphite-injected polymer woofers bring home dynamic bass and mids. Build a complete Classic Series speaker system by combining the CS 225C with floor-standing front speakers and bookshelf speakers or compact bookshelf speakers, plus a powered subwoofer for thrilling home theater sound.

This center channel speaker is a good investment. My only complaint is that is a little larger than I wanted.

The Boston Acoustics CS 225C is a Very Good Speaker. I like it a lot. I have had other Boston Acoustic speakers for a long time ago, and Speakers are Good Quality and they have sounded great for years. The Center Speaker sounds real Good, all around. I can hear everything crystal clear coming from any Movie dialogs. All Music sounds good coming from the Speaker too. I am Very Pleased. The CS 225C Speaker's Bass is Good, as well as all the Highs. Great Budget Center Channel

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Love this speaker! Can't beat the performance at this price point or even higher. I'm a former Home Theater salesman and I have always loved the Boston sound. I still use my Denon AVC-3030. I know it is not new technology, but its a great amp and the CS 225C handles the power nicely! Great clarity and imaging in the output and matches well with my HD8's. Found out how much I was missing as compared to running the center channel in "phantom" mode or by using the speakers on my Mitsubishi tv. Very satisfied!! Would not go with another speaker under $200!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This little speaker sounds great and matches my older HD10's and HD7's perfectly. The price was great and with free shipping. I have always been a little weary about buying stuff like this over the internet but Crutchfield was great to work with and I will definitely keep them in mind the next time I need something.

Driver Technology

Tweeter: The CS 225C uses a 1" Kortec soft dome tweeter for clear high frequencies. Kortec is a silky fabric saturated on the underside with a proprietary stiffening agent. Because the inside surface of the dome is ultra stiff, the tweeter tracks the signal with ease and produces an excellent transient attack. Simultaneously, the soft, self-dampening top layer eliminates unwanted resonance, so the sound is smooth and articulate.

Woofers: The CS 225C has two 5-1/4" graphite injected polymer woofers with phase plugs. The drivers feature Boston's Deep Channel Design technology to give you more bass with less amplifier power. Rubber surrounds are used for added durability. The enclosure is ported on the back panel.

MagnaGuard: The speaker features MagnaGuard magnetic shielding which ensures the speaker's magnetic field does not interfere with a CRT television's picture.

Bass Management Recommendation: When setting bass management parameters on your home theater receiver, the outputs for this speaker should be set to Small with the subwoofer's crossover point between 80 Hz and 120 Hz.

Connections

Gold-plated Binding Posts: The wire terminals are gold-plated, 5-way binding posts, allowing you to connect the speaker wire using dual banana plugs, single banana plugs, pin connectors, spade terminals, or bare wire. Bare wire up to 10 gauge fits through the binding posts.
