About the Boston Acoustics DSi460T2
Get great performance from a speaker that doesn't take up an inch of floor space. The DSi460T2 from Boston Acoustics, sold individually, installs directly into your wall, and delivers clean, high-impact stereo sound from a single speaker. It's perfect for getting sound in awkward areas of your house, like a hallway, bathroom or kitchen. The DSi460T2 has inputs for both left and right channels and two 1" tweeters (one per channel), so you'll hear both halves of the stereo music mix. And a 6-1/2" woofer with dual voice coils takes care of the mids and bass with power and precision.
But that's not all. Thanks to the selectable direct/diffuse switch, you can also use the DSi460T2 as a single-input dipole/bipole surround speaker in a Boston Acoustics "Hidden Theater" surround sound system. Depending on your setup, you can have the two tweeters firing in phase (bipole) for clear, directional sound, or out of phase (dipole) for a more diffuse soundfield. The DSi460T2 makes a great surround speaker matched with a front soundstage composed of the high-performance DSi495 in-ceiling speakers. But no matter how you use the DSi465T2, you'll enjoy rich, warm sound.
An optional in-wall bracket is recommended for installing the DSi460T2 in a new home under construction (or in a room that's undergoing major renovation).

Product Research
Overview: The Boston Acoustics DSi460T2 is an in-wall speaker with a stereo input. It can be configured in two ways: to play stereo from a single location when there's not enough room for a pair of speakers in the wall or ceiling, or as a single input surround speaker with a selectable direct or diffuse sound field.
Features
Woofers: The DSi460T2 uses a dual voice coil, 6-1/2" DCD (Deep Channel Design) copolymer woofer. The DCD woofer uses a deeply grooved pole plate that enables the voice coil to travel farther for greater output without bottoming.
Tweeters: The DSi460T2 has dual 1" Kortec soft dome tweeters set at different angles. Kortec is a silky fabric saturated on the underside with a proprietary stiffening agent. Because the inside surface of the dome is ultra stiff, the tweeter tracks the signal with ease and produces an excellent transient attack. The soft, self-dampening top layer eliminates unwanted resonance to make the sound smooth and articulate.
Moisture Resistant: The DSi460T2 is well suited for humid environments like the kitchen or bathroom. It should be mounted in a position where the speaker will not collect moisture.
Connections
Inputs: Spring loaded posts will accept pin connectors, single and dual banana plugs, or bare wire up to 12 gauge.
Wiring Options: If the speaker is to be used as a single stereo speaker, you should set the input jumper to the Dual Input setting. (The jumper is located on the back of the speaker.) You can then connect the speaker wires to the Input A and Input B terminals. If the speaker is to be used as a surround speaker, you should set the input jumper to the Single Input setting, and connect the speaker wires to the Input A terminals only. As a surround speaker, you can select the direct or diffuse mode via the 2-way switch on the front of the speaker.
Note: When the speaker is connected as a Single Input it presents a 4-ohm load to the amplifier. When wired as a Dual Input, the speaker's impedance is 8-ohms.
IR Sensor Knockout: The speaker has a knockout molded into the speaker baffle that will accommodate a standard 1/2" diameter infrared sensor. The IR sensor range and operating angle will be reduced by the grille and cloth scrim. IR will work best in on-axis to the face of the speaker.
Mounting
Installation: After a 10" x 7-3/8" cutout is made (either vertically or horizontally), the speaker is installed in the hole and held in place by a rugged plastic screw-set bracket. The only tool required (after the hole is cut) is a #2 Phillips head screwdriver to tighten the clamps. The clamps spread up to 2.270", so they should cover almost any application (most drywall is 1/2" thick). The required depth to install this speaker is 3.481".
Note: There must be 1 1/2" clearance around the mounting hole on the short axis to accommodate the clamps.
New Construction Bracket: For new construction installation, the NCB6 bracket (item # 065NCB6) is required.
Paintable: Both the frame and grill can be painted to match the ceiling or wall. A plastic paint shield is included to protect the speakers.
