Overview Details Customer Reviews Category Info Accessories Our take on the Boston Acoustics G112-44 by Ken Nail What's a component sub and why would I want one? A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back. If you appreciate value and performance, check out Boston Acoustics G1 subwoofers you'll be hard-pressed to find comparable performance and features in other subs in this price range. The G112-44 12" subwoofer's hefty foam surround allows plenty of cone excursion for deep, powerful bass. The sub's design optimizes performance in small sealed or ported boxes perfect if vehicle space is tight. Integrated sealing gaskets ensure an airtight fit when mounted in a sub box. This sub will hold up when you drive it hard, thanks to its heat-dissipating vents. Boston's SureSet™ system incorporates replaceable fuses that protect the sub from power overloads and make impedance selection simple. Just move the provided fuses to switch the sub's impedance from 2 ohms to 8 ohms this kind of flexibility pays off when it's time to redesign your system. Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for lower impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible. Most 2-channel car amplifiers are stable down to 2 ohms in standard mode, or 4 ohms in bridged operation. Most mono amps are stable down to 2 ohms. Features Enclosure Recommendations Features RadialVent Cooling Technology: The Boston Acoustics G1 series subwoofers feature patented RadialVent cooling technology, which directs airflow around the 2-inch/4-layer voice coil for increased power handling. Materials: The G112-44 woofer has a co-polymer woofer cone with a raised polypropylene dustcap and a large foam surround. The wrap-around gasket gives you a good seal whether you top-mount or bottom-mount the woofer. SureSet: The speaker terminals are equipped with two 4-amp mini ATC fuses for selecting between series or parallel voice-coil operation. When both fuses are used, the woofer is configured for parallel operation, and the woofer's impedance is 2 ohms. When one fuse is used in the center slots, the woofer is configured for series operation, and the woofer's impedance is 8 ohms. There is no need to change the position of the speaker wire in order to switch between parallel and series wiring. The fuses also provide voice coil protection under transient conditions such as accidental momentary overdrive. Note: The fuses do not protect against voice-coil failure resulting from long term high power abuse. Terminals: The woofer has rugged spring post terminals that accept up to 8-gauge bare wire or pin connectors. Long Excursion: The woofer has a 1-3/4-inch peak-to-peak excursion for accurate deep bass output from a small sealed enclosure. Enclosure Recommendations Sealed Enclosure: The G112-44 woofer is optimized for use in a small sealed enclosure with a 1.0 cu. ft. internal volume. Ported Enclosure: The woofer can also be used in a 2.0 cu. ft. ported enclosure with a 4" diameter, 13" long port, tuned to 34Hz. Written By Johnny, STL on Thursday, January 19, 2012 These are fantastic subs. I have a sony 1000w amp and it is perfect. They take it like a champ, unlike most subs they are mostly metal. I had boss subs that blew in a week with this amp and they said they could take 750rms. Soon im going to upgrade to G3s Pros: metal, properly rated rms, fantastic sounds quality Cons: hmmm.. nothing i can really think. Dimming of my lights haha Was this review helpful? Written By DemianG, Arizona on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 I just installed 2 of these in my 2010 Ram 1500 to compliment the factory installed Alpine system. I have the BA 500M Amp running at 4ohms. This is giving the subs 300 watts (150 per) and they are loud, clean, tight, and deep! They are doing everything i want and they are under powered! I have plans to unleash the full power of the amp just to see the difference, but i have to say that at 300 watts these subs are sounding great on all types of music! I have nothing negative to say about these subs! I have ordered the GTA-RSL to give some more control over these because some songs just have too much bass (if that is possible :)) with these subs and setting my EQ to -9 bass didn't cut it down enough! I choose these subs because an installer friend of mine suggested them because of the shallow mounting depth and SQ for my limited space under the rear seat. Pros: Great Price, Great SQ, fits in small spaces. These rock! Cons: Made my upgraded factory installed 506 watt 9 speaker (10 with 8'' sub) Alpine system sound like crap! I now need to add the BA SE35s! 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Crutchfield Customer Review The reviewer purchased this item from us, verified by the email address on the order. I bought this sub with the recommendation from Crutchfield advisor Doug, and all I can say is thank you! I told him I will be using a Rockford Punch 300.1 amp, and a .90 cu. ft. sealed box in my sierra ext. cab and he recommended this BA sub. I have it wired down to 2ohm and it kicks butt.
