Our take on the Boston Acoustics RS 334

by Kristen Schaub
Boston Acoustics

Floor-standing speakers — still standing tall

Sure, floor-standing tower speakers buck the industry trend toward smaller, visually inconspicuous speakers, but they're hard to beat if great sound is your primary goal. Tower speakers produce powerful sound with excellent bass, making them a great choice for serious music lovers and for folks who want high-impact home theater.

The RS 334 floor-standing speaker from Boston Acoustics will bring your home entertainment to life with spacious, detailed sound. Recent advancements in Boston's speaker technology make it equally suited for use in a stereo pair or as front left and right speakers in a multi-channel home theater system. Plus, the RS 334's slim profile and small footprint make it a stunning addition to just about any space.

Smart tweeter technology for accurate high-frequency detail
Boston's new 1" Extended Wide Bandwidth tweeter makes this speaker really sing with silky, clear highs. Its unusual, dimpled design is based on the tweeter from Boston's flagship VS speaker line. This unique shape stabilizes the linear motion of the tweeter for significantly lower distortion, while improving dispersion, power handling, and clarity.

Multi-composite woofers deliver deep bass and clear mids
The RS 334 delivers hard-hitting bass and precise mids, thanks to quadruple 4" woofers and an acoustically tuned port. All of Boston's Reflection Series speakers use woofer cones made from an advanced polymer material injected with fiber and ceramic. These high-tech woofers produce smooth, detailed midrange and high-output bass with minimal distortion.

Advanced cabinet design
The RS 334's smooth front baffle sports a shallow grille with magnetic attachments. This design helps eliminate diffraction — the bending of sound waves that can interfere with a speaker's ability to create a spacious soundstage. You'll enjoy pristine sound with pinpoint imaging, whether the grille is on or off.

Build a complete Reflection Series speaker system for thrilling home theater sound by combining the RS 334 with matching RS 260 or RS 230 bookshelf speakers for your surrounds, a center channel speaker, plus a powered subwoofer.

Driver Technology

Tightly Spaced Driver Placement: The Boston Acoustic RS 334 tower loudspeaker utilizes tightly spaced driver placement, to allow the speaker to deliver near-point-source sonic coherence, wide dispersion, and accurate imaging.

Smart Tweeter Technology: The Boston Acoustic RS 334 tower loudspeaker's 1.0" EWB (Extended Wide Bandwidth) tweeter features special central diaphragm termination (creating a dimple) and a rear-venting chamber to provide stabilized linear motion, lower distortion, improved dispersion, higher power handling, and increased clarity.

Multi-Composite Woofer Cone: The Boston Acoustic RS 334 tower loudspeaker incorporates quadruple 4.0" Fiber Ceramic Copolymer Material (FCCM) Woofer cones made from a composite of fiber and ceramic materials impregnated in a proprietary copolymer. By combining these multi-composite cones with Boston's Deep Channel Design (DCD), the woofers produce a smooth response over the entire operating range. Deep Channel Design (DCD) provides more bass from less amplifier power.

Video Shielded: The Boston Acoustic RS 334 offers MagnaGuard video shielding so you can safely place the speaker next to your television without distortion or interference.

Enclosure Design

Bass Reflex Enclosure: The Boston Acoustic RS 334 tower loudspeaker features a bass-reflex cabinet with a rear-firing port for added efficiency and bass response. The enclosure features an elegant, scratch resistant high-gloss black lacquer finish.

Super Linear Plane (SLP) Baffle: The Boston Acoustic RS 334 tower speaker features a Super Linear Plane (SLP) Baffle which offers a smooth surface baffle with invisible hardware. The Super Linear Plane Baffle has the ability to nearly eliminate acoustic diffraction.

Magnetic Grille: The Boston Acoustic RS 334 uses a super-shallow grille with an invisible magnetic attachment to create an almost entirely seamless alignment with the baffle plane to significantly reduce sonic barriers. The magnetic super-shallow grille minimizes acoustical interference for an improved soundstage.

Connections

Binding Posts: The Boston Acoustic tower loudspeaker has two sets of gold-plated binding posts connected by gold-plated jumpers. Using the dual  binding posts, you can bi-amp or bi-wire the speakers. The binding posts will accept bare-wire, pin-connectors, and single banana-connectors.

Mounting Options

Placement: The Boston Acoustic RS 334 can sit safely and securely on carpet or hardwood floors using the supplied rubber-tipped feet.
