Boston Acoustics SC Series speakers bring brilliant sound to your vehicle's audio system. Their precision construction and sensitive response allow them to deliver superb performance, filling your car with perfectly balanced sound and making your drive much more pleasurable.

The Boston Acoustics SC55 5-1/4" speaker features a tough copolymer 5-1/4" woofer that really delivers the beat. A butyl rubber surround keeps the cone under tight control for clear sound and reliable operation even at extreme playback levels. The 3/4" Kortec® dome tweeter sits in a contoured baffle that widens the dispersion of your high notes, providing clean, well-balanced instrumental detail throughout your car.

A built-in crossover makes sure the highs and lows combine smoothly, and protects the tweeter from sudden overloads. The compact neodymium magnet helps reduce the size of the SC Series speaker, so it can fit in more vehicles without any loss of fidelity.

Note: The oversized terminals on these speakers won't connect to a Crutchfield wiring harness. We recommend that you buy a 10-pack of female quick slides that you can splice onto our harness.

These speakers have been a great replacement for the original speakers in my car. They produce a crisp sound with a strong mid-range. I have separate tweeters in the door. I am happy with this purchase.

Quality speakers however might be too much for a stock headunit to handle.

Pros: Great highs. Good middle.

Cons: Make sure you have a sub in your vehicle if using these. Great middle and high notes, no low available.

Disappointed - Not for Honda CR-V

2008 Honda CRV EX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these for my wife's Honda CR-V, after her rear door speakers stopped working. They look like great speakers. The mounting bracket that ships with them fits in the door and has screw holes in the right places, but is sized for larger speakers. There is a half inch ring of airspace around the outside between the bracket and the speaker. The lack of a solid baffle in this installation completely kills the bass response. I called customer support, and they said that's the way they are, and I could fabricate a custom baffle if I wanted. Unfortunately, I don't have the jigsaw or the patience to take the car doors apart again, at least not today. Basically, I spent this much and 5 hours, and they sound worse than the factory speakers.

Pros: These speakers might be great - I don't really know what they sound like when installed in the proper enclosure.

Cons: The problem is not with the speakers themselves, it's with the mounting kit that they come with. Should not be recommended for Honda CR-V

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good sound for a small speaker. Used in Rear door of a Honda Fit. Front speakers do most of the "work" anyway, front is Focal Polyglass VR 30 powered by a 4 X 50 Sony amp. The Focals are sweeeeet. These SC55s didn't fit the rear doors, using the provided adapter, because the stock speaker grill is concave, which caused the grill to contact the tweeter assembly before the door panel was completely snapped in place. Had to make my own adapter. Not a big deal............sounded good after a bit of creative engineering.

Pros: Good highs, OK mid bass. No bass, but didn't expect any from a 5 1/4" speaker. (bass is the job of my 10" Kappa Perfect) Nice sound for the $109 sale price.

Cons: None except the fit issue.

Excellent sounding speakers!

1987 Porsche 911 Carrera
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these speakers in the doors of my 1987 Porsche 911 to replace some old tired paper units. What a difference! The quality of the sound is great: crisp highs and excellent mid range; bass is decent considering these are only 5 1/4. These speakers can handle a lot of volume and not lose their composure - I'm not running an amp, just the head unit, so the efficiency of these SC55s is great. I would highly recommend these speakers.

Great sound, light, but tight Bass

2008 Honda Civic LX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed these in my '08 Civic. Also have the larger SC 65 in my front doors. Great sounding speakers! I have had several pairs of Boston's in the past and the detail in these is quite impressive. You will here things in music you have never heard before -even on high end equipment. The "mids" and "highs" are excellent. The Bass however while very solid and tight is a bit lacking in volume. I'm only using a stock receiver, so maybe more power would help. Crutchfield was helpful, but the speaker brackets they included for my rear deck were not really great; there were large gaps and airholes. I just didn't like the brackets so I made my own out of MDF board. I traced the outlines of the stock speakers (weird shape) and cut the outline out and painted it black. Looks professional, and provides a solid base for the speakers.

Tweeter: Each speaker uses a type-S2, 3/4" Kortec dome tweeter. Kortec is a silky fabric saturated on the underside with a proprietary stiffening agent. Because the inside surface of the dome is ultra stiff, the tweeter tracks the signal with ease and produces an excellent transient attack. Simultaneously, the soft, self-dampening top layer eliminates unwanted resonance, so the sound is smooth and articulate. The Contoured Asymmetrical Tweeter Baffle (CATB) delivers smooth extension and strong on-axis and off-axis response.

Woofer: The copolymer woofer cone has a durable butyl rubber surround and stands up to the harsh automotive environment.

Crossover: All SC series speakers feature specifically tuned crossovers to deliver the best blend between the tweeter and woofer. Each also features tweeter protection for optimal performance and reliability.

Voice Coil: The oversized 1-1/2" voice coil increases overall power handling and reliability.

Installation: The compact size of the magnet allows SC series speakers to fit where other high quality speakers don't. Neodymium magnets offer extraordinary power-to-weight ratio, approximately ten times the magnetic strength of a conventional iron-ferrite magnet of equal size.

Speaker Terminals: These speakers have 0.25" positive (+) terminals and 0.187" negative (-) terminals, which are too large for the vehicle-specific speaker harnesses supplied by Crutchfield for many vehicle applications. It is recommended that a pack of assorted female quick slides (item # 120FQS10PK) be purchased and spliced to the harnesses to adapt them to the speaker terminals.
