Boston Acoustics SR Series speakers bring exceptional sound quality to your car. These speakers handle high power with ease, and deliver amazing detail that you've probably never heard before, even with your favorite tracks.

The SR60 component system features a strong 6-1/2" copolymer woofer that can deliver the bass beat with ease. A heatsink cooling system ensures the motor assembly won't overheat, no matter how long or hard you push it. A small but powerful neodymium magnet keeps the mounting depth shallow so you can fit your SR speaker in lots of different vehicles. Mounting options include several ring adapters, making it even easier to put these speakers in more locations, along with grilles that add a stylish touch to your custom installation.

The separate soft dome tweeter disperses high notes in an especially wide pattern — everyone hears natural-sounding music, no matter where they're sitting. The 1" tweeter can be either surface- or flush-mounted to match your installation preference. The external crossover, with its 3-level tweeter control, ensures that the tweeter and woofer mesh together perfectly for a smooth response.

Why install component speakers?

A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.

Fit Notes

Woofer: The SR60 component system is equipped with copolymer woofers with butyl rubber surrounds. Each woofer is equipped with a neodymium magnet, which has a high power-to-weight ratio and a compact size about one-tenth the size of traditional iron-ferrite magnets. The dual-stage aluminum heat sink is integrated into the motor structure to draw heat away from the voice coil increasing the power handling capability.

Tweeter: The SR60 component system features 1" Type S-1 Kortec soft-dome tweeters for a smooth high frequency response and linearity. Kortec is a specially engineered material with the rigidity of a composite dome and the smoothness and detailed response of cloth. The supplied Quick-fit mounting cup simplifies tweeter installation. The tweeters come with flush and angled surface mount brackets.

Tweeter Dimensions:

Frame Diameter Cutout Diameter Mounting Height Mounting Depth
Flush Mount 2.046" 1.734" 0.369" 0.72"
Angled Surface Mount 1.872" Screw holes only 1.505" Screw depth only

Crossover: The SR60 system comes with two-way adjustable crossovers. Additionally, each crossover comes in two pieces (a woofer crossover and a tweeter crossover), and can be mounted separately or docked together and mounted as one piece. The following adjustments can be made on each crossover:

  • Tweeter Attenuation: On the tweeter crossover, you can adjust the tweeter output by placing the supplied jumper on the appropriate terminals. You can select an unattenuated tweeter output (0dB attenuation), or an attenuated output of -2dB or -4dB. The factory default position is -2dB attenuation.
  • On Axis/Off Axis Configuration: On the woofer crossover you can configure the output of the woofer for on-axis (listener is directly between the left and right woofers) or off-axis (listener is behind or in front of the area between the woofers) performance. For on-axis configuration, the supplied jumper should be placed on the SQ1 terminals (factory position). For off-axis listening, the jumper goes on the SQ2 terminals.
  • Input Configurations:
    • Separate Inputs: If you are bi-amping the component system (separately powering the woofer and tweeter with different amplifier channels), no additional wiring needs to be done. The woofer crossover and the tweeter crossover each have their own separate inputs and outputs.
    • Single Input: If you are powering the component system with a single full-range input, you will need to wire the woofer crossover and the tweeter crossover together using the supplied jumper wires (there are two). The speaker wire from the amplifier connects to the input on the tweeter crossover. The woofer and tweeters are then connected to their respective outputs.

Note: No crossover frequency or slope information was provided by the manufacturer.

Crossover Dimensions:

  • Length: 6.679"
  • Height: 1.498"
  • Width: 1.717" (mounted individually)
  • Width: 3.232" (docked together)

Fit Notes

6-1/2" Applications: For 6-1/2" speaker applications, redrilling of some screw holes may be required.

6-3/4" Applications: The speaker will fit in 6-3/4" applications when the supplied bracket is used.

Great speakers

Written By tdc36, Fairfield, CA on Sunday, August 12, 2012

No need to review since these are discontinued. I bought these in June at the sale price and just got them installed the other day. I am thoroughly impressed with them. Definite audiophile speakers at a great price.

I'm glad I squeaked in before discontinuation

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

put these in a 2011 Nissan xterra, front doors/dash. the tweeters are ridiculously clean and crisp--no harshness to the highs at all. the woofers handle lows incredibly well for such small speakers. even before I added my stealthbox, it was a huge upgrade. it's a good thing the passive crossovers have tweeter attenuation though. I have them set for -4 db and it's perfect in my vehicle. any less attenuation would've been overwhelming on the highs, balance-wise. i didnt bi-amp my components, but these speakers allow for that as well which is nice. great buy.

Pros: sound quality, versatility

Cons: none

Sounds Great!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Upon opening the box I knew I was getting a quality pair of speakers. I installed these on a 2005 Honda Accord using my stock HeadUnit amped by a Kicker ZX350.4. They're still in their break in period so not much I can say. I will say this though, when checking the quality of speakers it's essential to look for the separation in acoustics and these produce a satisfactory amount of separation between sounds.

As for the installation, my Open Box item was missing the wires to connect the woofers to the crossovers, so I just used the ones from my old PA DB6501's. As several other reviewers stated, they are punchy, but won't go extremely low, but hey that's what sub woofers are designed for.

Crossovers- To be blunt, they were a pain. The terminals are very small and require a very small flat head to even tighten the wires. They are indeed huge as stated by other reviewers.

Despite that I still like them. I will update my review when they've had a chance to break in.

FYI: Most OEM headunits have an incredible amount of treble boost to compensate for cheap speakers, so in a situation like mine my treble is at -4. with the tweeter attenuation at it's lowest.

Pros: -Distinct Separation in tones. -Punchy Bass -Tweeters design correctly to be easily aimed at your ears.

Cons: -Crossover

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sounds great. I have a 97 Saab 900. The car is like new. I wanted to had music. There is wind noise at turnpike speed along with some motor noise. I have an old Alpine Model # CDA9856 bought from Best buy 9/06.I use on old iPod for music playback. With this equipment to sound overcomes most ambient noise giving me good music. Quiet passages get somewhat lost but the speakers are not to blame.

Friggin' Awesome!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these this morning as a direct replacement for a set of 6x9 Kicker KS69 2-ways (also good speakers) in my 2007 Xterra, and the BAs opened up a world of clarity and rich sound. Audio is tight and crystal clear, and the woofers will thump a bit if you give them enough juice. I'm running them off an Alpine MRX-F30, bridged, at 150W per channel.

My only complaints are: - The metal screens for the tweeters make it darn near impossible to slip the tweeters into their mounting cups. I just took them off since I mounted them in my factory dash locations. - The spade connectors in the crossovers fit VERY tight on mine. So tight that I broke off one of the 'storage' spades in the woofer crossover, but a quick call to tech support scored me a replacement set with zero quibbles. Crutchfield rocks!

Neither complaint is enough to remove a star. If you're on the fence, go on and get these. BA is getting out of the car audio business so you won't get many other chances.

Pros: Amazing clarity, lush music reproduction, and the woofers have no trouble thumping with enough juice.

Cons: Tweeter screens cause fitting problems and crossover spade connectors are too tight.

These speakers were easy to install, and sound great at all levels!

I can hear again!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've been installing my own systems since '88. When I got my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I just threw in my headunit from my previous vehicle, same with the amps. I had replaced the front speakers with some cheap pioneers because they were the only 6 x 9's that would fit. I didn't want to go with 6 1/2 components because I was afraid the plastic adapters needed to fit them the would rattle and make them sound terrible even though I have a seprate sub for bass. Well, fast forward to now. My old headunit went on the blink, so I replaced it. Well that wasn't good because I caught the install bug again! Bought new amps, and now these Boston Acoustics SR60's. First, the sale on these were too good to pass up. Second, the 6 x 9 adapter plate that Crutchfield included free, doesn't rattle. Of course I did some modifications to insure this. First, I used rubber adhesive around the plate and screwed it to the door. Then I used 10 x 10 dynamat sheet ( purchased at the same time I ordered the speakers) over the adapter plate. Cut an X pattern over the 6 1/2" speaker opening and folded the excess back in to the inside of door. Presto, no rattles at all. Now, as far as sound quality, EXCELLENT. I'm not going to sound like an amatuer and say "it brought out details in the music I never heard before". I will say I thought I had hearing loss untill I got these and they restored what I had been missing. These Boston's make any kind of music sound great. Detail is amazing!

Pros: Sound Quality, Detail and Seperation, Sale price. Sound Quality is subjective. Everyone tunes their system differently. These are great speakers and great speakers sound great however you tune them- just remember you need a seperate sub for heavy bass. Yes- I'm 42 and still bass out. But I listen literally to all kinds of music, and these components handle everything with amazing clarity!

Cons: The passive crossovers are beyond huge. Be prepared. You need space! All 4, yes 4 (2 for each channel) equal the size of an amp. When not biamped, 2 must be connected together which makes it almost 7" long x over 3" wide x over 1" tall. Message to crutchfield, I love love love you guys! Delivery was quick, but alowing UPS to just leave the box in front of my house all day while I'm at work wasn't cool. Luckily it was still there when I got home and I was like a kid at christmas opening

BA SR 60's, great sound!

Written By Marc D, Brevard County, Fl on Tuesday, March 27, 2012

I installed these in a 2011 Toyota camry with an additional set of the Ists imaging tweeters in the dash. Initially had these on the factory headunit (base) until I had time to install an amp. They were an improvement over the factory speakers, but when I installed and then tuned the amp, wow! This set is bi-ampable, meaning you can run the tweeters and woofers on separate channels. I used a four channel amp, and put the tweeters on the front channels, and the woofers on the rear channels. This set up allows a lot more control on the frequencies and power going to the individual components. 62.5 watts x 4 from amp makes these components scream. My wife who was initially skeptical, was surprised at the sound. It sounds like she is in a concert hall. Put sound dampening material on doors, and the bass in punchy. The four tweeters (2 from the set & 2 from the Ists imaging set) sound great once properly tuned. The bi-ampability of these at the sale price is a phenomenal deal. A+ to crutchfield for honoring the sale price after I purchased them at a higher price three weeks earlier. In summation, the car's sound is much better than I expected it to be. I also have the BA pro 60 se's in my vehicle. Comparing the two, the pro 60 se's are definantly more musical or natural sounding, however, that sound comes at a higher price and bigger crossovers. The SR's though use less power, and thus sound louder at approximately 90 watts a set than the pro 60's at 115 watts. Great buy!

Pros: Bi-ampability, hands down. Uses power efficiently, and sound great.

Cons: Size of crossovers are rather large. Other than that, nothing!

Speaker sound AMAZING

Written By Tim P, Lebanon, Ohio on Monday, March 12, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound incredible. The sound can be a bit on the bright side when compared to normal factory speakers but that can easily be toned down by messing with the EQ on the stereo. The build quality of the speaker is great, they feel much more solid than the stock speakers they replaced. They love power... I original was going to try and drive these with just the headunit, but that would have been a mistake. The extra power an amp provides really lets these speakers sing. I am very happy with my decision of both the speakers AND to buy from Crutchfield.

Pros: great speaker, made by a great company. sounds incredibly clear even at high volume

Cons: install directions were beyond horrible. Crutchfield says "it fits" will have to drill one hole. NOTHING fit. the brackets that were supplied didn't match the speakers or the car mounting holes. Ended up taking these to get professionally installed. Not a fault of the speaker or Crutchfield for that matter, just be prepared you may have to visit a professional.

Absolutely fantastic speakers! Couldn't be happier, especially after I was skeptical that these would be worth the price. I'll be ordering another pair for the rear as soon as they are back in stock. Now my car sounds almost as good as my home theater!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these to replace a pair of Infinity Components for the front doors in my truck and couldn't be happier. Installation was fairly simple since all the wiring was already in place from the old speakers. My only complaint is the crossover design which forces you to remove the covers on each unit to connect the wires. The tiny screws make this a little tedious. If you mount the tweeter/woofer crossovers together as I did, you need to bridge them together by crossing two little wires within each crossover. Then replace the covers by mashing the connecting wires under the edge of the cover since there is no slot to run the bridging wires through. That concerned me a little so I made a little notch with a dremel and it turned out fine.

The tweeters are also a lot larger than I expected so some more creative dremel work was needed to mount those in the factory location. I've never done a car audio install before so all I can say is if I can do it, anyone can. I highly recommend these speakers. People can't believe the sound when they get in my truck for the first time. The highs are crystal clear and the bass response is very good for 6.5" woofers. I don't want to add a sub to this system and really don't see a need to after installing these. I'm powering them with 50 watts RMS and they really pump, but I'm assuming they sound even better with a little more juice.

All in all these were worth every penny and fit my needs perfectly.
