A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound. Install Boston SX component speakers and experience a new level of realism and clarity in your music an excellent way to add new life to the sound of your car audio system. The XS50 5-1/4" component speaker package includes two copolymer woofers, two Type-S2 tweeters, two external crossover modules, woofer adapter rings, and tweeter mounting hardware. Boston Acoustic tunes the outboard crossover to ensure a superb blend between woofer and tweeter for smooth, precise output. The tweeter output level is adjustable. Protection circuitry guards against accidental damage to the tweeter. A compact, lightweight neodymium magnet reduces the woofer's size so it can fit in more vehicles with no sacrifice in performance. The included mounting hardware allows you to surface- or flush-mount the compact tweeter. Woofer Tweeter Crossover Woofer Woofer: The SX50 component system is equipped with copolymer woofers with butyl rubber surrounds. Each woofer has a neodymium magnet, the compact size of the magnet allows SX series speakers to fit where other high quality speakers don't. Neodymium magnets offer extraordinary power-to-weight ratio, approximately ten times the magnetic strength of a conventional iron-ferrite magnet of equal size. Voice Coil: The oversized 1-1/2" voice coil increases overall power handling and reliability. Tweeter Tweeter: Each speaker uses a type-S2, 3/4" Kortec dome tweeter. Kortec is a silky fabric saturated on the underside with a proprietary stiffening agent. Because the inside surface of the dome is ultra stiff, the tweeter tracks the signal with ease and produces an excellent transient attack. Simultaneously, the soft, self-dampening top layer eliminates unwanted resonance, so the sound is smooth and articulate. The tweeters come with angled flush mount and angled surface mount brackets. The SX50 system comes with separate two-way adjustable crossovers. The crossovers can be mounted separately or docked together and mounted as one piece. You can adjust the tweeter output level by placing the supplied jumper on the appropriate terminals. Choose between a flat (0dB attenuation/factory setting) or an attenuated output of -2dB or -4dB. No crossover frequency or slope information was provided by the manufacturer. Not a ton of bass, but they are only 5.25 inch speakers, so I wasnt expecting much. Mid bass is punchy and clean, and the sound is smooth and accurate all the way up. I have them running off a Ecipse head unit and amp and paired with an eight inch Solo Baric. With just a little tweaking the overall sound is super clear and realistic. Installation instructions are minimal, and even the flush mount option is not very "flush". That being said, mine went off without a hitch. Took one practice run mounting a tweeter to a piece of cardboard before touching my truck and the voila. In short amount of time I had great looking, great sounding install. Overall I am very happy with this purchase. Was this review helpful? They are not going to reproduce low end very well, although the SX60 6 1/2" components don't much more frequency response at the low end.I mounted the tweeters in the sail panels of my Civic and am very pleased with the sound imaging and reproduction, especially at the price. I paired with an Alpine MRP-F250 amp which doesn't push as much wattage as these speakers are rated for, but they sound beautiful despite that. If you're looking for accurate sound that's crystal clear, these are an excellent choice. The low end response is poor and the directions included were unclear if not wrong for certain tweeter mounting configurations, but overall these are great speakers. I recommend them, but you'll need a sub if you want heavy low end. 13 out of 14 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? So my review is paired agianst what I have heard over the years.I ordered these to replace the OEM speakers in my 2005 F250. The supplied plates from crutchfield for the 51/4 mounted perfectly and easily. The 51/4 mid sound good and reproduces midrange well. These do not have the frequency range I expected though. They do sound good but not great. I measured and found that 61/2 speakers will fit with little mods. 61/2 would be a better option that will give you that full range of frequencies and give you a more musical reproduction across a larger frequency range. Although crutchfield says they won't fit. The highs are bright and full and sound great for this price range. Remeber these speakers are only 51/4 and will give virtually no bass response at all in the low frequencies. If only a 51/4 will fit for the price this is a great set of speakers. 97 out of 116 people found this helpful Was this review helpful?
