The clear, well-balanced sound of Boston's SX speakers offers an excellent performance boost to almost any car audio system.

The SX95 6"x9" speaker combines two Type-S2 tweeters with a heavy duty copolymer woofer and a durable rubber surround. A contoured tweeter plane provides an extended stereo "sweet spot" for smooth, realistic high-frequency response — no matter where you're sitting.

A built-in crossover sculpts the frequencies going to the woofer and tweeters for smooth blending of the highs and mids, and protects the tweeter against power overload. Compact, lightweight neodymium magnets reduce the size of these speakers so they can fit in more vehicles without sacrificing performance.

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Features

Tweeter: Each speaker uses two type-S2, 3/4" Kortec dome tweeters. The dual tweeters exhibit smoother frequency response and higher output than conventional two-way or three-way designs. Kortec is a silky fabric saturated on the underside with a proprietary stiffening agent. Because the inside surface of the dome is ultra stiff, the tweeter tracks the signal with ease and produces an excellent transient attack. Simultaneously, the soft, self-dampening top layer eliminates unwanted resonance, so the sound is smooth and articulate. The contoured tweeter plane delivers smooth extension and strong on-axis and off-axis response.

Woofer: The copolymer woofer cone has a durable butyl rubber surround and stands up to the harsh automotive environment.

Crossover: All SX speakers feature specifically tuned crossovers to deliver the best blend between the tweeter and woofer. Each also features tweeter protection for optimal performance and reliability.

Voice Coil: The oversized 1-1/2" voice coil increases overall power handling and reliability.

Installation: The compact size of the magnet allows SX series speakers to fit where other high quality speakers don't. Neodymium magnets offer extraordinary power-to-weight ratio, approximately ten times the magnetic strength of a conventional iron-ferrite magnet of equal size.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased two pair for '04 Stratus Sedan, front door and rear shelf. At less than a year, the door speaker's voice coil went out, in both speakers??!! The rears in the speaker shelf are going strong. Curious if mounting these speakers on edge wore out the voice coil prematurely??? Were recommended for use in both positions, door and rear shelf. Replaced with SX65s for the '95s were unavailable at the time, no shipment from Boston and I just wanted speakers installed and the 'defective' ones to go away.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these speakers in the rear of a convertible '97 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder. Due to the limited space behind the speakers, these were one of the few options I had. They sounded great from the first time I heard them. They are lacking a little in the bass department.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Don't understand other people's complaints about these speakers not having any bass. They aren't subwoofers! I find the bass reproduction to be tight and solid and the speakers are very balanced from high to low. Maybe these speakers need a large air cavity behind them to make good bass, and suvs and trucks don't really have these large cavities behind the speakers? Overall I'm very satisfied with mine mounted in the rear deck/parcel tray of my Acura.

Where's the Bass

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these to replace stock speakers in my Dodge Ram Quad Cab. They were recommended by Crutchfield advisor but there is literally no Bass.

The mids and highs are good I suppose....on the verge of screeching to my ears.

They are going back. Stinks that I have to pull everything apart to reinstall.

Good for rear fill

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these with the Boston SX60s for my 2008 Caliber. Perfect
compliment with the 60s, but wouldn't recommend these as primary or front
speakers, even amped. Bass ok, midrange a little fuzzy. Seem to handle
power pretty well though.

Love These Speakers

Written By Taylor, Bozeman Mt on Wednesday, June 03, 2009

I bought these speakers a few months ago started out running them off a deck and was disapointed by the sound. Really lacking in the bass sounded almost distorted and weak. Thats when i did my researched and learned that these particular speakers are very power happy. So i went out and bought myself and orion 2 channel amp running two pioneer speakers and my bostons off of it. Now im blown away. The bass is responsive and clear, highs and mids are super clear and blow my pioneers out of the water, Even at high levels.
I love these speakers and recomend them to be powered by an amp for best sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this boston SX95 6X9 set to replace and older BA that the foam surround gave out on. The new SX 95 does have the same Boston Acoustic sound on the high and midrange i was looking to replace. I am happy with the sound on the upper end. Boston has more of an 'in your face' sound as it has been described to me before. I was a little dissappointed on the low end, doesnt hit quite as hard as my older Bostons did, but it was ok for me, and i only have it running from an Alpine receiver. the magnet is only about half the size as my older ones, so i was a little dissapointed with that , and attribute that to the less bass. Overall i would say it is a good sounding speaker, and an pleased with the rubber surround. I would probably buy again. thanks, Crutchfield.

Not Great

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these in the front doors of a 2007 Dodge Ram w/ Pioneer Avic D3 head unit. My point of reference is a 200 watt, 2 channel Bose system in my Mazda Miata that Ive enjoyed for the past 7 years. (Granted the Bose is a 2 channel "component" system but with only a 2 channel, 200 watt amp) I believe it is a fair comparison as both systems are 200 watts and the AVIC has superior EQ and customization.

Regarding the SX95s:

The treble is hyped yet there is not much separation between things in the upper registers. Sound is generally boxy. Enhanced treble is not the same thing as detail.

There is no punch! Snare hits are weak. You know how some songs start with a vocal passage or light guitar part and then the whole band joins in? With these speakers this effect is anticlimactic.

I'm not a bass freak by any means but these have less than expected.

Seem to be centered around vocal range, with hyped presence and not great separation.

I expected more for the price. The only way to make them sound better would be an external amp with more headroom. This might get more punch but I do not feel that the amp is distorting significantly in the range I am reviewing them.

General impression is they are not as large and not as warm as I'd like them to be.

Positives? These probably sound decent in the rear deck of a sedan where they are farther from your ears and you can crank them up without having to contend with the tweets pointed in your general direction. Might sound more balanced and correct with sound reflecting to your ear. Do not recommend for front door application.

They are not bad speakers and I guess they are decent for coaxs, but I cant help but think you could get the same sound for half the price.

I may keep them for a while, but I realize now that to get the sound I am accustomed to will require a component set and a larger amp, maybe a bi-amped system. I bought SX65s for the rear and may not install them. These are pretty far from the mark, IMO. What is really amazing is that the 2 channel mazda bose system (with al its weaknesses) stands up well.

I realize that other people may have differnt results. They are not bad, they are just lacking some of the things my ears expect. I am a hobby musician and typically listen to all my music through bi-amped studio reference monitors, the bose system, or direct from iPod.

Could be better.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These 6x9" speakers sound as good as $120 speakers. But I really had no choice, as those were the only ones that would fit in my truck doors. The build quality is good, but I think the tweeter protrusion is to much.

Not as good as expected

Written By jcisne, Miami, FL on Saturday, September 01, 2007

I bought these speakers as an upgrade to the Boston Accoustics S95 I already had installed with a Kicker ZX350.4 amp. These SX95 speakers sound great, but I gave it a 4 star rating because I don't notice any improvement in sound quality over the S95, which are like $80 less than the SX95.

OK for your grandma, but not much more!

Written By douglas, San Diego, CA. on Wednesday, July 18, 2007

I put six of these in my new 2007 Calabria Pro V boat. I was powering them with a Boston GT 50 amp, 65 RMS x 6. They sounded Fair at best. Have already blown two of them. A lot of people reviewed this with 5 stars, but if you read, they are mostly powering them with only a head unit. They might be OK with only a head unit, but if you want GREAT sound, spend your money on other speakers.

much needed upgrade

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I put these in my Chrysler '05 300-C (the rear deck). I put in the 1200 watt Kicker amp and 2 L-7 12"ers first. Be prepared to upgrade all of your other speakers too. I was STARVING for some high end. The Kickers TOTALLY cover the bottom end.....Big Time. Thank you Crutchfield for all of your help. Especially Earl. U-DA man Earl.....and thank you! The step by step instructions included were very helpful. I only had to solder the speaker connections, for which I was thankful. If you need some high end (hz-wise) these are the ones you need. Next are the door speakers....Time and money....but not particularly in that order. Thanks again Earl, and Crutchfield!!

DEFINATELY FOR CONISSEURS

Written By nick, Bartlett, TN on Wednesday, March 07, 2007

I have 2 SX65's in the FRONT of my 97 camry and 2 SX95's (6x9) in the REAR deck. I have a Pioneer DEH 6800 head unit which supplies ABOUT 20 watts RMS per speaker and the difference in these speakers and my factory ones were IMMEDIATELY noticeable. I have YET to experience distortion. And to TOP IT OFF, as the first guy said, I haven't even hooked them up to an amplifier yet! I just recieved the amp a week ago but my car is in the shop for other reasons so I cant pull an all-nighter to put the amp in. My Sony XM-SD46X 4 channel amp is a PERFECT match for these speakers. I will also be installing dynamat in the front doors so that these speakers will sound even better. I already have dynamat on the rear deck. If you are going to spend this kind of money on these speakers, then save up enough and get you a PERFECT amplifier (like the one I noted) and seal them off with the dynamat. Although I haven't finished adding the amp or the dynamat, these speakers still DOMINATE! They don't (as previously mentioned in other reviews) provide much low-end bass but that's why I have 2 12" Sony Xplod's hooked up through a different amp lol. GREAT BUY!

awwwwwsome

Crutchfield tec guy suggested these 6x9's, So glad he did, they hit hard with no distortion at all, highs and mids are also great.
suggested these to 2 friends already and will be buying another set for my boat in the spring

Great Factory Up-grade

Written By Tracy, Mechanicsville, VA. on Friday, October 20, 2006

I replaced my factory 6x9's with these Boston Acoustics and the results are great! I'm only driving them with a factory HU in a '99 Chevy Malibu and the bass response is great as well. It's not a sub-woofer bass but enough for my listening habits. Crutchfield is awesome, they showed up in one day and I installed them on my lunch break. Would definately recommend. I also purchased the 4x6 S75 Boston Acoustic for my front doors, though I didn't have time to install them, I will write a review on those too. Great job to Crutchfield and Boston Acoustics!

Boston Acoustics SX95

Written By pinkmonk, St. Louis, MO on Friday, September 15, 2006

Great speaker for the price. Have it hooked up to a pioneer HU (no amp) and it still gives good bass, mids, and highs, and has enough power to rattle everything in my car. Would amagine the sound would be a little cleaner with an amp, but it is still a lot better than expected.

THE BEST 6x9's EVER

Written By Regina, Ottawa, IL on Tuesday, July 11, 2006

These speakers are simply AMAZING I have the Profile AD740 amp powering these, and they are amazing. They sound just as good as ANY small sub I've heard. Also the Highs and Mids are FABULOUS too. BEST SPEAKER, I WOULD DEFINITELY BUY AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
