If you want wraparound home theater sound and large speakers just aren't an option, check out Boston Acoustics' SoundWare XS Special Edition speaker system. It comes with five ultra-compact satellite speakers — each one fits in the palm of your hand. Their polygonal shape lets you place them on shelves, or mount them on your walls or ceiling with the included articulating brackets. They'll sound great no matter where you place them.
Each satellite contains a 1/2" dome tweeter and a 2-1/2" mid/woofer to give you clear, crisp sound, and sports an attractive, high-gloss finish that complements almost any décor. This system makes an ideal home theater speaker solution for smaller living rooms and apartments.
Rounding out the system is a compact 8" subwoofer with a 100-watt built-in amplifier to add thrilling low-frequency impact to your next movie night. This sub uses Boston's BassTrac® circuitry to ensure that you hear deep, distortion-free bass.
Looking for speakers that'll deliver thrilling, edge-of-your-seat surround sound? Choosing a pre-matched speaker system is one way to ensure seamless home theater performance. These systems are made up of speakers that share the same tonal characteristics that means the sound will stay consistent as it moves from speaker to speaker around your room. Most pre-matched systems come with a subwoofer a must-have for high-impact bass.
Great little speakers, sound is what you would expect from a big speaker
I had a Polk Audio system for about 9 years and was looking for a speaker system that had a small foot print as I am also thinking of upgrading my TV to either a 55" or 60". Read many reviews on these speakers, and decided to give it a try. Boy, am I glad I did!! Speakers have a small foot print with a big sound! I enjoy watching movies and listening to music streamed and the sound that come from this set is fantastic. Glad I made this buy. The price was right for what you get. I would recommend these to all that are looking for a good system within a small to medium area.
Pros: Good price, great sound, good warranty, and great customer service. All in a SMALL package!!!
Cons: None as of yet!
I have these paired with a Denon X-1000. Powerful sound from such a small package. Nice that they include brackets. Feel heavy and well built. Sound not quite as good as the similarly sized, but much more expensive, Bose. Because good for the money, I give 5 stars. Also, the sub is very powerful, I have the setting on that toward the low side. Would recommend.
Pros: Powerful, compact
Terrific sound in a small package, clear and powerful.
Pros: Size, set up and price
Speakers are tremendous
Pros: todo ,compactas y suenan brutal Everything, compact, brutal sound
Cons: nada nothingCrutchfield response on February 25, 2014 Translation provided by Crutchfield's Spanish Sales & Support team. Visit our new Spanish-language site at www.crutchfieldenespanol.com.
Sounds amazing. I'm impressed with the sound from this system. I so happy with it!
A lot of power for such small speakers.
Pros: Compact size
Overall, the system is straight forward and sounds great. Previous speakers were the Bose Acoustimass 10, the sub-woofer adjustment from the Boston speakers is far better then Bose. The setup is in a small apartment with sub-woofer in the corner. I have the sub volume adjusted to 25%, not because of neighbors but because the amount of bass coming from the down firing sub (on carpet covered concrete floor)
Pros: Easy setup Great Sound for the price Multiple ways to mount the satellite speakers
My family is impressed with the sound from this system. Sure, cubic inches still matter but if your space is limited (as in my case for where these went) this system works wonderful. I was able to tuck these away and still get great sound. My wife didn't notice they were there until she heard them.
Pros: Great sound in a small package. Strong springs for the wire connection. Nice looking. Good quality. Excellent price for what you get.
Cons: Only have the spring connector for wire connection, no banana plug capability. Limited in wire size that can be used. Subwoofer does not have an auto standby. Not a big deal for me since this system will see limited use. I'd hate to leave it on when not needed or need to turn it on 'daily' if that were the case. For my use this is a 'Five-Star' system
Everything I expected when I bought this system
Pros: Great sound out of a small system
Cons: Have to separately turn on and off the sub
Sounds amazing. I have a friend who just purchased a pioneer receiver and had acoustimass 6. The SoundWare on my onkyo receiver blows it away. And for 299$ I don't know of a better value
Pros: Price. Sound quality. Comes with Wall and ceiling mounts. Astetically definitely not an eye sore. Also. Comes in white.
Cons: Haven't found one yet. Had them for a month or so. And trust I give em a workout from time to time.
Can't believe I bought these for half price. Incredible sound out of such a small speaker. I have never owned a home theater speaker system. Replaced my Sony Home Theater in a box system that I had for 20+ yrs. Matched this up with the Onkyo TX-NR717 that I also bought from Crutchfield.
Pros: Compact size, easy setup and mounting hardware
Excellent system for the price! The sound is amazingly clear and the sub sounds great as well. I was contemplating a sound bar but this far exceeds any sound bar within $200 of this system.
Pros: Compact Nice looks Amazing sound Easy to set up and use Bluetooth set up and streaming is a breeze
Cons: Does not get very loud
This was the product I was looking for to go along with a recently purchased Onkyo TX-NR626 receiver and a Samsung 51" TV. Not "top of the line" but very good. Speaker size (I needed small) and cost were my main criteria and the BA SW XS SE was the best fit. Very easy to set up. Needless to say, the TV sound has greatly improved and CDs/DVDs also sound great.
Pros: Looks great. Great price. Easy to setup, Well made
Cons: None noted.
I'm very pleased with this system overall. The satellites are well made with quality fit and finish, functional and reliable connectors, and look great on the wall. The system presents itself very well acoustically with only the midrange sounding slightly lacking. Crystal clear highs and solid bass. The included mounts are well made and also look nice.
Pros: Compact size, attractive finish, convenient speaker wire connectors, excellent mounting hardware.
Cons: Slightly lacking in midrange, slightly limited speaker angles
Best sound for a fairly priced product from Crutchfield.
This system packs a lot of power- clear, clean sound, esp. When listening to 5.1 channels and movies. The subwoofer needed some adjusting and it doesn't turn off automatically as I was told but who cares. I am using a Denon AV receiver with the adjustment mic. Tweeked in manually a bit but beautiful fun sound for 18x 10 living room. Very pleased with the purchase.
Pros: Clean, powerful sound.
The helpful customer service rep that I spoke to recommended either these speakers or some from Klipsch. I have been very happy with my decision to buy these small, wonderful speakers. The installation was made simple by their various installation brackets. The sound is superb and the glossy, black finish looks great next to the glossy black finish on my tv. I would definitely recommend these speakers.
Pros: compact size, great bass sound
I replaced an Onkyo SS package I purchased on close out a few years back that costs less than just these speakers. My only issue was the old system did not have HDMI switching. I purchased these to use with a Yamaha AV810 Receiver (All high end stuff). The speaker size and quality seem very good, they are easy to mount. They sound OK. Very good playing music. But for surround sound, this system does not sound as good as my old system. The midrange is very thin. It doesn't seem to drop down into the bass frequencies as freely as my old system. I've tried different adjustments on the Yamaha receiver and none seem to make much difference. These aren't "bad", but I expected better.
Pros: Compact Very clear Good reproduction and sound with Music. Easy to install
Cons: Midrange is week using surround sound. I may try to augment with a couple of full range Baby Advents.
I have been a long time fan of Boston Accoustics because of their clarity. Unfortunately size (and budget) became and incredibly important factor for my surround sound system in our new family den (roughly 300 square feet) but these speakers do not disappoint. These speakers have excellent quality and power especially once you consider their size. The depth of sound is actually much better than I would have expected due to the physical limitations. Bottom line if size is a factor but quality is a must I highly recommend this system.
Pros: Size, quality
Really like them. First time in a long while I had a full set of surrounds. Considering a second set!
Pros: Sound, size and ease of set up.
Overall, the components are well made. Sounds clarity is excellent. The sub is a bit sloppy but I attribute that to the floor its on. I am going to try it on a concrete paving tile as the floor may be resonating too much which makes it a bit difficult to dial it in. Overall, the performance is excellent!
Pros: Really good quality components and includes wall mount hardware and rubber feet is you want to mount table top style.
Cons: Subwoofer may not be compatible with your receiver or listening venue. The sub is more suitable for larger rooms with really firm floors.
Our movie room is what would have been a bedroom and it has a big cutout in the 4th wall that opens up into the living room. Coupled these with an Yamaha RX-V573, an existing KLH center speaker to run 6.1 sound. The receiver's YPAO sound optimization for automatic speaker setup did a great job and the system sounds great. My wife likes the sound and size and our teenager says the surround sound is awesome. Subwoofer does great. Don't be put off by the small size of the speakers.
Pros: Size and sound. Good price at $299! Mounting hardware with the speakers is great. Even include little plastic pads for where you want to just set a speaker on a shelf or cabinet.
Cons: None. Would fully recommend.
More than expected sounds great
Pros: Compact in size but great booming highs and lows very cool and sleek
Cons: Nothing I can think of
Wasn't going for the earth-shaking sound that a larger system would give but for the price/quality this set-up really sounds nice!
Pros: Sound and size
Cons: Nothing really other than if you are doing a HUGE home theater, 8" sub might not be enough for ya!
These small speakers put some nice highs, and the sub has tight bass without being overwhelming, in my small home theatre room. Recommend them for the price paid.
Our Boston Acoustics speaker system is exactly what we were searching for. The product quality and finish are both first rate and the price is well within comparable systems of much lesser value. We couldn't be more pleased.
Pros: Excellent sound reproduction, easy installation, well detailed instructions, superb fit and finish.
Cons: None noted so far...
Received my system very quick. That's always a good. The speaker mounts are pretty awesome. Choice between small (2 inch mounts) and large wall mounts (5 inch). Only negative thing regarding the mounts is no hardware comes with them so you have to buy your own screws/nails to put them on the wall. (it does say this in the manual but not online). Speakers are small which is great but the sound is extremely nice. The subwoofer that comes with the package is nice but not great. I will continue to use my Yamaha sub as it is more functional for me and holds the bass better. No subwoofer cables comes with the system and that was a disappointment but I'm not using the sub it comes with. Things you will need after purchasing this package is screws/nails or something to hold the speaker mounts to the wall, speaker wire, and a sub cable otherwise this is a fantastic product for the price! Easy to set up.
Pros: Sound Size of speakers Price Ease of set-up Shipping time
Cons: No mounting screws/nails No subwoofer cable
They work good
Pros: Good sound
Great system, good looking, easy wired setup, sub is powerful and crisp. Speakers hit highs and lows elegantly.
Cons: You have to buy a receiver separate
Purchased there speakers to replace an older wall mounted speaker system . My wife is even amazed how good these speakers sound and look wall mounted next to our Plasma
Pros: Actually purchased a new Reciever with this speaker system . Being able to adjust each speakers volume helped with center speaker problems some people have had issue with.
These Boston's really lived up to their reputation, good solid product, compact packaging and ease of setup. Great sound quality for a medium sized room, such as my master bedroom. Overall I'm satisfied.
Pros: Compact size and flexible mounting options, small sub really slams for its size
Cons: Speaker brackets take a few minutes to figure out, and routing wires into speaker take a second, but no huge deal.
I was suspect that good sound could come from such a small speaker but needed small. To my delight I got excellent sound quality and am completely pleased with my purchase.
Pros: Small size, great sound, easy installation with the supplied mounts. Great sub-woofer.
The sound is very good for the size of the speakers and the price paid. Bose costs almost 4 times the price, and will sound almost the same for what I have experienced.
Pros: The speakers are very easy to mount, with the ball bearing setup They are extremely small but sounds great Price paid is really low, compared to other high end speakers
Cons: Need a dedicated better sized center channel Extra cube speakers are expensive, when compared to the home theater package price
Very happy with this purchase. Flexibility in mounting speakers is nice. All hardware except screws is inlcuded, no need for stands. Excellent sound.
Pros: Nice sound, small foot print, flexible mounting options.
Sub woofer was DoA. I did not check the speakers. I talked to tech support, tried a different cable and different sound source to verify sub woofer was dead.
Cons: Dead on arrival
These Speakers are overall very good. I wish it would have a true center speaker but they sound good enough for the price. Speakers allow for a nice mix of sound from game play to movies to listening to music. Subwoofer is nice and has a deep sound also.
Pros: great set of speakers for the money.
Cons: could include a true center speaker.
They are sold as home theater speakers, but have other uses
My wife wanted to be able to listen to music in the kitchen The kitchen is very small, and there is no room for large speakers The 5 small speakers in the set allowed 2 in the dining room, 2 in the kitchen and one spare The sub went on the floor in between the kitchen and dining room She is happy with the sound
I am more of an audio purist, and use JBL studio monitors in my listening area
Pros: Small speakers fit into spaces where larger speakers would not
Cons: Not audiophile sound

5.1ch Speaker Package: The Boston Acoustic SoundWare XS Special Edition 5.1 Home Theater System is an ultra-compact 5.1ch speaker loudspeaker system that offers rich, room-filling surround sound while complementing your decor. Including five matching satellites (for front, center, and surround speakers) and a powered subwoofer; the SoundWare XS Special Edition Home Theater Speaker System delivers big sound from a small package. Additional Boston Acoustic SoundWare satellite speakers (065SNDWRB, sold separately) can be purchased for a 6.1, 7.1, or 9.1 home theater system configuration.
SoundWare XS SE Satellite Speakers: The SoundWare XS SE satellite speakers are incredibly small, yet provide high performance sound. With their contemporary diamond-shape and attractive high-gloss finish, the SoundWare XS SE speakers make excellent addition to your home theater. Each of the five two-way satellite speakers house a 0.5" fabric dome tweeter for crisp highs, and a high-performance 2.5" treated paper mid-bass woofer with rubber surround for deep lows in an acoustic suspension enclosure. Compact driver placement and quality, along with system-specific crossovers assure a wide uniform dispersion for complete coverage of your listening room. Each satellite speaker also includes MagnaGuard magnetic shielding, which ensures its magnetic field does not interfere with your television picture. Each SoundWare XS SE satellite speaker features a pair of gold-plated spring-loaded speaker terminals that will accept up to 16-gauge speaker wire.
Powered Subwoofer w/ BassTrac: The powered subwoofer houses a down-firing 8" treated-paper woofer with foam surround in a bass-reflex enclosure with an acoustically tuned down-firing port for highly efficient bass response. The 100-watt (250-watt peak) amplifier ensures powerful bass reproduction of the most demanding audio. Proprietary BassTrac technology maximizes bass output while avoiding overload. The powered subwoofer features a mono-RCA line-level input to connect to the subwoofer (LFE) output of your AV receiver. The powered sub offers the following rear-panel controls to adjust the woofer to your preference.
Note: The powered subwoofer will turn on automatically when an audio input signal is received and off several minutes after the audio signal stops.
Mounting Options: The SoundWare XS SE satellite speakers' unique design allows you to place the speakers on a shelf or mount them on a wall at almost any angle. The supplied mounting hardware allows you to mount the speakers flush or in a corner, and their pivoting mounting brackets let you aim the sound where you want it. Each speaker also includes a 1/4"-20 threaded insert for aftermarket wall-mount brackets or stands, and a tab for attaching a security device.
Note: Included with each satellite speaker is an assortment of mounting hardware. Two metal keyhole-slot brackets are included; one for a flat wall and one for a corner. If you use a keyhole-slot bracket, you must attach the supplied pivoting ball mount to the speaker. The pivoting ball mount allows the speaker to pivot 20° in either direction and pivot down up to 40° when mounted to a flat wall. The corner mount bracket will not allow the speaker to pivot side-to-side. A set-screw keeps the speaker from moving once it has been positioned.

These kick butt. They were on sale . I think they sound better than the bose acoustimass. Mine are powered by onkyo. Amazing value for the price [ shawn Jan 12, 2014 ]
This system with the right receiver sounds great. I paired mine with a Denon e300. 5.1 is better for movies but receivers have different sound modes. If you pair this system with one that has 5 channel stereo, music will be amplified by the extra 3 speakers. I would compare this speaker system to the Bose cube systems. I have had a lot of sound systems, but this system I am 110% glad I purchased it! I definitely would recommend this system! It's a great idea to purchase this system, but if you are going to play music more than movies I would suggest a receiver with more sound modes for music. [ BARRY Jan 12, 2014 ]
Great idea!!! Either to listen your favorite music or too see your favorite sport or movie those speakers really rocks. You should expect voice, instrument and sounds definition. I really likes Boston Acoustics performance. [ Abiezer Jan 12, 2014 ]
Works great for me I use it primarily for watching tv but have used it with pandora and sounds great.also bought a extra satellite speaker and a center channel and sounds even better [ JOE Jan 12, 2014 ]
They sound incredible. Great investment! Will definitely be able to handle the movies and sports. [ CHRIS Jan 12, 2014 ]
You have to buy a sperate receiver. By teh way, teh speakers sounfd great with my Sony receiver. [ Paul Jan 08, 2014 ]
You don't need the receiver. You should be able to directly hook-up to the TV. [ RAVI L Jan 06, 2014 ]
Yes you will need a receiver to hookup the speakers in to it. the amp that comes with the sub is only to be use with the pre-amp out from the receiver . the speakers and the sub are great. [ Javier Jan 06, 2014 ]
That's what I did... They're all identical so it doesn't matter which. Seems to work just fine. [ Aaron Jan 01, 2014 ]
Yes, a 5.1 system as is, or pick up a dedicated center channel and use the system as a 6.1. [ Brad Jan 01, 2014 ]
Happy Holiday David B Yes the BA XS special edition does require an amp for the 5.1 system which is basic use for the home theater systems. The 2.1 system can be hooked up directly from your T.V. for better sound also its wireless feature lets you hook up your smartphone. It also has bluetooth wireless connectivity feature. Each system has its perks but overall it is a great product and Crutchfield always sells the best. Paul [ PAUL Dec 31, 2013 ]
David, I just installed these and run them thru my Harmon kardon receiver. The sub is powered but I don't believe you can run these without some type of receiver. BA made PC speaker/sub set back in the day but not sure if they still do. Good luck! [ Mark Dec 27, 2013 ]
David, assuming that the 2.1 system is the same as the Boston Acoustics SoundWare XS Special Edition minus three speakers, yes, a receiver is required. I just got this on 12/22 and right now I'm just using the front three speakers and the sub with my Onkyo TX-NR626 in my family room. It's working out quite well. The right price and product for the space. [ JAMES Dec 26, 2013 ]
No wires or connectors are supplied. I bought a spool of 16-gauge RCA brand speaker wire. It's working fine. [ RICHARD Dec 17, 2013 ]
This does not come with speaker wire. I would suggest talking to a Crutchfield specialist who has knowledge about what type of speaker wire is recommended. Usually the bigger the speaker wire, the better sound. [ RICH Dec 17, 2013 ]
No speaker wire. I hooked everything up to my existing speaker wires from my old system. I have to say I really like this sound system. Not hugely powerful, but I have a small house and the sound is quite good. I would recommend it-a great deal for the price. [ MARGARET R Dec 16, 2013 ]
I recommend to came with the 16 gauge cable ready to install [ juan Dec 16, 2013 ]
