Modern materials for better sound

The D-412UK speaker features a sturdy polypropylene woofer and a foam surround that delivers accurate performance while standing up to the extreme temperature swings of life in a car. The speaker's dipcut backplate allows extended excursion for some satisfying punch, while the two Mylar dome tweeters broadcast crisp details in stereo. Finally, you'll be able to enjoy rich sound in your old gem without altering the classic look you love so much.

Grilles are not included; the factory grilles should be suitable for most applications.

Installation Applications: The D-412 will physically fit in many standard 4x10 applications, but it has stereo inputs and is sold as a single speaker (not a pair), so it isn't a good choice in most modern vehicles that have speakers mounted in pairs. Customer Q&A

Q
i bought this hoping it really fits where the old 6x9 dash speaker was in my 74 gran torino (says it fits), it does not fit and the bracket screw holes do not even match up. How come there was no 4x10 adapter to fit on a 6x9 original car bracket??

Q
factory radio needs 10 ohm, can I wire the 2 coils in series to get 8 ohms, mono sound?
joseph  Mar 26, 2020

A
Yep. That's what I did on my 78 C10 factory radio. Sounds much better.
michael  Mar 26, 2020
A
guess it is possible but sound quality is going to suffer. what I do on my classics is install a modern blue tooth stereo in the glove box and use a repeater (sonix electronics) so the the remote works without opening the glovebox door. doing this with my 1977 c-10 and my 68 el camino ss396. This way the oe am radios are still in place. on the el co I use an antennae splitter and have an alternate speaker for the am radio...

Q
When wiring in a mustang do you hook up both front channels?
ecswim  Jun 04, 2019

A
speaker is set up for stereo ,,,large cone works off both channels , small cones , one for each channel wont get any separration due to smaller cones too close together but for single placement of speaker in dash , this one is ideal ! i installed mine in a 66 chevelle with a pioneer nav radio mounted below dash and into a fabricated console , i also used two door speakers and rears . this speaker produced alot of presence and a center channel effect .

Q
What is the spacing between the mounting holes where the speaker frame is screwed into the dash? Is a diagram available?
christopher m  Mar 25, 2017

Thanks for your question. This speaker ships directly from the manufacturer so I have limited information. The frame width is 4.333", frame length is 10.15". Major apex of oval is 9.333", minor apex of oval is 3.788". For more detailed information you can also reach out to RetroSound at 888-325-1555. Hope this was at least somewhat helpful.

Dropped right in my 78 C10. Cleared my dash pad, no mods.
michael  Mar 26, 2020

It is flush. Bottom isn't too big. it fit right down in the hole on my 84 c10. But I don't have my dash pad in so idk how it fits as a whole with the pad in.
