Shaft-Style Radio

Infinimount Shaft/Bracket System: The Infinimount Shaft/Bracket System allows you to mount the Hermosa (M2A) radio in a variety of classic cars. This is because the shaft-knobs are not mounted to the unit, but instead connect to the unit via a harness so you can space the radio's shaft knobs at various distances (0.3125"-2.1875") from the chassis of the radio, using the supplied side-mount brackets. You can move these brackets forward or backward and move them in any direction. You can even cut, trim, or bend the brackets if needed. This shaft-style radio is a true problem solver for tough to fit applications due to its unique bracket system combined with small mounting size.

Faceplates & Knobs (sold separately): There are multiple vehicle specific faceplates & knobs available for the Hermosa (M2A). In addition there are universal faceplates which allow you to use the integrated break away tabs to modify all aspects of height & width of the plate, and even drill in your own shaft holes to fit virtually any car.

Note: The RetroSound Hermosa (M2A) does not come with a faceplate or knobs. A universal mounting plate or vehicle specific faceplate and knob set will be needed for installation.

Variable-Color LCD: The RetroSound Hermosa (M2A) features variable color illumination display with over 32,000 of color variations. Choose from a selection of preset colors, have the unit scan through all preset color continuously, or customize your own color to better match your vehicle's interior lights. You can also adjust the brightness of the display to High or Low.

Variety of Sources

Built-in Bluetooth: The RetroSound Hermosa (M2A) is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (HFP/A2DP/AVRCP) allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone to the head unit. Before using your Bluetooth enabled device, it must be paired to the Hermosa (M2A). You can only pair one device at a time with this unit. Once paired, when your Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the RetroSound receiver, the auto connection function automatically connects the two units. The Hermosa (M2A) is compatible with most Bluetooth enabled mobile phones, including the Apple iPhone, Blackberry, and Android smartphones.

  • Hands-Free Communication: The Hermosa (M2A) allows for wireless communication between the head unit and your Bluetooth enabled cell-phone. You can answer an incoming call from the head unit's front-panel control knobs. Incoming phone call information will be displayed on the unit's front-panel LCD and your music will be pause or muted. You will still use your phone to dial a phone number and then the call will transfer to the RetroSound radio. Use the included external microphone to speak into during your phone conversation, while the other party will be heard through your vehicle's speakers.
  • Wireless Audio Streaming: The Hermosa (M2A) also allows you to play back stored music and  music apps from your Bluetooth-enabled phone or personal music player using a paired Bluetooth connection. Playback controls included Play/Pause, Stop, & Next/Previous Track. This unit does not display song/artist information from Bluetooth audio devices.
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the RetroSound Hermosa (M2A).

USB Port: The RetroSound Hermosa (M2A) features a USB (type-A) port connected to its rear chassis by a 20" pigtail. The USB port enables connection of  a portable USB mass-storage class (MSC) device; such as a portable digital audio player or USB thumbdrive. This unit supports MP3 (128 kbps +), WMA (64 kbps +), and FLAC music files in format FAT and FAT32. The unit can recognize a maximum of 999 songs/files (files will be read in order of creation and not alphabetically or numerically).

  • Music Control: Once you've connected your compatible USB device, the Hermosa (M2A) will find your songs instantly and automatically start playing them. You will be able to control basic playback functions of your music files such as Play, Pause, Skip Track, Intro Scan, Repeat Track, and Random.
  • Song/Artist Info: The Hermosa (M2A) also supports ID3-tags/WMA-tags for song/artist information.
  • Battery Charging: USB portable audio players that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the receiver's USB port (max. 0.5A), and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.
Notes:
  • Not compatible with Apple iOS or Android devices.
  • You cannot connect a USB device via a USB hub or Multi-Card Reader to this unit.

Dual Auxiliary Inputs: The universal shaft-style receiver features two 3.5mm auxiliary inputs connected to the rear chassis by 7" pigtails. The Aux inputs provide a connection for portable external audio sources such as a MP3 player or  CD player.

RDS AM/FM Tuner: The Hermosa (M2A) features a built-in RDS AM/FM tuner. The unit's tuner features 3 FM bands and 2 AM bands. A total of 30 AM/FM presets can be stored manually or automatically. Select between Local and Distant settings can aid in listening to weak FM radio stations or compensate for stations that have too strong of a signal. This unit's tuner can be set to USA or European tuning.

Audio Section

25W x 4Ch MOSFET Amplifier: The Hermosa (M2A) is equipped with a 25 watts x 4-channel RMS/45 watts x 4-channel Peak MOSFET amplifier.

4Ch/2.85V RCA Outputs: The universal shaft-style receiver features front & rear 2.85-volt RCA outputs. The front & rear speaker RCA outputs are balance and fade adjustable.

Equalizer: The Hermosa (M2A) features the following preset EQ curves (Classic, Pop, Rock, or Off) to customize your music listening. The Off mode activates a 3-Band EQ which lets you adjust Bass, Midrange, & Treble manually from -7 to +7.

Balance & Fader Control: The Balance adjustment function allows you to adjust or pan the stereo sound from the left or right; this is helpful to compensate for the position of the driver in relation to the speaker locations. Adjustment range is 0 to 12. The Fader Control allows you to fade the sound from the front pair of speaker to your rear pair of speakers. Adjustment range is 0 to 12.

Turn-On Volume: You can set the Hermosa (M2A) to power-on to the same volume level (0-46) every time, or let it default to the last volume when turned off.

Key Beep: When this function is enabled, every knob turn or button press will output a beep tone.

too be honest , I don't know but I want to do the same to mine. Where do you buy a C D changer. I can't find one at Crutchfield but I haven't talked to anyone about it. I know this isn't much help , but life goes on!!!
kevin  Jul 30, 2019
A
I dont think so. but if your CD changer has a USB output then you might be able too.
donald  Jul 30, 2019
A
Not to my knowledge. I haven't tried, but it doesn't look like the unit would accommodate a CD changer.
marc p.  Jul 30, 2019
A
You might be able to do it. The radio does have an auxiliary input. I'm not completely sure.
lloyd  Jul 30, 2019
A
It would depend, I suppose, how you would like to add the changer. It has bluetooth, USB, and a stereo input, but if you are wanting to control it from the radio, I would think that this radio would not be a good candidate for that. OTOH, why not put all of your music on a large USB drive and play it through the radio? Much simpler, cleaner, and easier to haul around than all of those CDs?

Q
Ordered this for a 79 Chevy K10. Can someone verify it's compatible? Crutchfield's category selection only allowed me to choose C series.
jay  Mar 16, 2019
2 answers
A
The Chevy "C" and "K" designation refer to drive type. C is for two wheel drive. K is for four wheel drive. The numbers refer to the truck weight class, 10 = 1/2 ton, 20 = 3/4 ton, 30 = 1 ton. To the best of my knowledge the radio's are completely interchangeable. My friends 1973 C20 is identical to my 1976 C30. The model run was from 1973 to 1986 or 1987.
gilbert  Nov 10, 2019
A
All the 1979 Chevy vehicles we do have research files on will accept most of the RetroSound radios. While we don't have a research file on the K-series, it's hard to image it would be different than the rest of the '79 Chevys. If you purchased it from Crutchfield our tech support can help you with the install. Their phone number will be in the bottom of your invoice.

What is the main difference between the Hermosa and retro sound two stereos? I don't need hands free calling, etc. just want a clean sounding stereo with ability for usb hook up. It looks like pretty much the same excepts the rms power bandwidth if 1hz v 20hz... Maybe that is a typo. Thanks, Joe

Thanks for your question. For information on comparing two or more models I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget.

is there usb port on front of unit ?
toby  Dec 13, 2022
1 answer
A
The USB is not on the front, Toby. The RetroSound Hermosa (M2A) features a USB (type A) port connected to its rear chassis by a 20" pigtail. The pigtail allows you to run the port to an easily located spot for connection, especially in older vehicles that did not have any connections originally.

1981 C10 - Dash has been modified for a DIN head unit. Will I be able to install this unit securely with the hardware provided in the box? I have a new dash bezel to install, so that's not an issue, but the metal behind has been cut for a DIN head unit.

I installed this radio into a 77 corvette. If even the radio stem holes are cut you will need a plate or something that gives you radio stem holes to mount. If you have the stem Even though you can tighteh the volume and left/right balance stems you need to find somewhere to attach the included strap so the radio doesn't just flop around on the stems.

Q
Is there a wiring adapter, so I don't cut factory wires on 1982 c10 ?
g  Jun 26, 2021
1 answer
A
I installed mine in a 67 Mustang. Since the stock AM Radio was being replaced I had to splice into the wiring to get power to my unit. I also had to run wires to the rear and use an adapter for two small speakers in place of the larger single speaker in the dash. If you didn't want to cut into the original wires, I would see if you could either get the other end either from the previous radio or from a junkyard that had a GM radio that would plug into your existing power supply. That way you would leave the existing wiring intact. Hope this answers your question. BTW, this upgrade was quite an improvement over what I had originally. Looks perfect for my 67 and love having BlueTooth along with a CD player that I attached to the AuX 1 input and then hide in my console. Good luck.

The radios will fit all the models. The knob positions are fully adjustable as to their location in all direction.. All the wiring is included and fully labeled. The radio works well as described. Upgraded from standard AM to AM/FM with bluetooth, 25W per channel. The unit is much lighter than original. You don't need to install the "box" and cut up the fash, as all after-market radios require.

Looking forecast experience with fit and installation on a 78 GMC High Sierra truck?
harold  Nov 19, 2019

A
I installed this set up on my older 1965 truck. The kit is physically flexible enough where set ups are simple. NOTE. I WOULD NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT because the electronics are cheap and Crutchfield do not stand behind their product. Typical alternators have an output range of 9 to 16 volts. This product only goes to 14.9 volts before it gets damaged. Good looking product. Just doesn't work when the engine is running.

The posts are adjustable in both center to center, and in depth. There is more than enough adjustment to get past the 7/8 your looking for. To hit the sweet spot, I had to dry fit this a couple of times, because there is so much adjustment. :)

Q
Is this 2-ohm stable, for speakers with 2-ohm impedance (JBL GTO 620, specifically)?

A
The built-in amp is rated at 4-ohm impedance, but you can still use it to drive the JBL GTO620 speakers without issue. For more details on that or to discuss further please contact an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat. Thanks!

Q
How many amps does the unit require, I'd need to know to setup a fuse between the unit and the battery?

A
Need to check the voltage coming off the alternator when the engine is running. If it is more than 14 volts you may damage the radio.

The stereo has a max current draw of 15 amps during operation. You will find this information in the stereo owner's manual which you can download by clicking the link for it under the "What's in the Box?" heading on the stereo's main webpage. I hope that helps. Q
Can this stereo be connected to a sub woofer?

A
Yes it can be connected to a sub woofer. As a side note, I have purchased four Retro Sound car stereos over the past few years and only one is still working. I love the look but from my experience the quality is lacking.
