About the RetroSound R-410N

Buck Pomerantz

One speaker, powerful sound

RetroSound makes it easy to replace the factory speakers in almost any classic, vintage, or even new car. Their RetroMod Series speakers feature extremely shallow chrome baskets designed to fit into a wide variety of standard speaker locations. They may look old school, but RetroSound builds their speakers from the ground up, using the latest techniques and materials.
Retrosound R-410N

One speaker, powerful sound

RetroSound makes it easy to replace the factory speakers in almost any classic, vintage, or even new car. Their RetroMod Series speakers feature extremely shallow chrome baskets designed to fit into a wide variety of standard speaker locations. They may look old school, but RetroSound builds their speakers from the ground up, using the latest techniques and materials.

The single R-410N 4"x10" speaker is designed for a classic car with only one speaker opening on its dash or rear deck. The woofer features dual voice coils, each one connected to its own tweeter. Your stereo receiver connects to both voice coils, so you get a stereo mix from a single speaker. In effect, you get two 2-way speakers in one frame, for modern sound in your vintage application.

The R-410N speaker features a powerful neodymium magnet and a low-carbon steel chrome frame that form a strong foundation. The sturdy pulp composite woofer with its Santoprene surround delivers powerful performance while standing up to heat and humidity. The two silk dome tweeters broadcast detailed highs without sounding shrill, and their low profile helps increase installation options.

Although efficient enough to play well with any receiver alone, this RetroMod speaker can handle the high power from aftermarket amplifiers. Replace that wornout old 4"x10" with this updated RetroSound, and your tunes will sound new again, just like your classic ride.

Important Note: This is a single 4"x10" speaker, so you'll need to purchase a pair for vehicles with two 4"x10" openings.

Grill not included; the factory grill should be suitable for most applications.

Product Research

Features

Woofer: The speaker features a rigid pulp composite cone woofer with a Santoprene surround. The woofer uses a Neodymium magnet to achieve its shallow depth, so it fits in tight factory locations.

Tweeters: Two Mylar tweeters are wired separately so this single speaker will accept a stereo input.

Dual Voice Coils: The woofer has dual voice coils, each wired with one of the tweeters. The stereo input is useful in many older cars with a single speaker location in the dash or rear deck. If used in a standard two speaker 4x10 application the inputs should be wired in parallel (to present a 2Ω load) or series (to present an 8Ω load).

Q
Can the voice coils be wired in parallel to achieve a single channel 2 ohm load?

A
It is also possible to wire the voice coils in parallel to the same channel to make a 2 ohm load.

My bad. It's 4ohm and has jumpers to make it 8-10ohm for factory stereos
randy l  Sep 03, 2021
A
I believe so, it comes with jumpers

Q
Can you run a dash speaker in addition to the front door and rear deck speakers?

A
Yes, this speaker wires as a front left and a front right, so you can just tie it in with your door speakers. Of course, it will fade the same as the door speakers-power sound level.

If the head unit or amp has the outputs for more speakers you can. Or I suppose you could possibly split the signal somehow in parallel. But I would think the sound quality wouldn't be as good.

Q
Can anyone confirm if this will fit a 1966 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight (dash speaker)? Crutchfield does not have anything but Cutlass in the vehicle drop down for 1966 Olds.

A
What is the size of the existing speaker? The mounting kit includes some adjustable bars that you can bend to fit. The cutlass had a bracket that connected to the bottom of the speaker to hold it in place. That bracket wasn't used for the new speaker and instead the universal one was used with a little bending.
jason  Dec 01, 2016
A
I had the same speakers in my 1965 Chevelle so I'm guessing they will match up.

I have a 1978 Chevy pickup will it fit in the dash?

You can check to see if this will fit your vehicle by using our Outfit My Car tool: http://www.crutchfield.com/car/carselector.aspx For additional details on fit or installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on if this will fit and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle.

Q
Do you carry the speaker bracket for this speaker? This a front center dash speaker bracket for a 1983 GMC pick-up. Ken
ken  Jan 17, 2016

A
I'm sorry we do not. The brackets we have are for round speakers like 6 1/2, 5 1/4 to adapt to different size cutouts. This size speaker is usually a direct replacement so adapters are not needed or modification may need to be done. Hope that helps.
