RetroSound R-693N

Overview

Our take on the RetroSound R-693N

Some cars make it tough to replace your speakers, but RetroSound designed the RetroMod® Series R-693N 6"x9" 3-way speakers to fit in just about any vehicle. These speakers use a compact, powerful neodymium magnet structure to keep mounting depth to an impressive 1.78" inches, while still allowing these speakers to handle plenty of power — up to 100 watts RMS. They'll deliver strong performance powered by a car stereo or an outboard amplifier.

Soup up a classic

Some cars make it tough to replace your speakers, but RetroSound designed the RetroMod® Series R-693N 6"x9" 3-way speakers to fit in just about any vehicle. They'll deliver strong performance powered by a car stereo or an outboard amplifier.

RetroSound builds each speaker around a low-carbon, black steel basket, using a treated paper woofer cone, a Santoprene™ rubber surround, and a Mylar tweeter and supertweeter. Translation? These speakers will stand the test of time in your vehicle, shrugging off damage from moisture or temperature extremes. Whether you're customizing an older vehicle or just looking for some nice replacements, these RetroSound speakers will fit the bill.

Fits great in tight space. Sounds great.

Good speakers.

2005 Toyota Camry
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very good speakers, and they fit in the door. Very easy install and Crutchfield send all of the things I need to install. Good base response, better on the high end which is good for front door speakers. Lots of shiny chrome on the speaker frame which will go unseen behind the door panel. I had to fudge the install into the brackets Crutchfield provided. The holes didn't quite match up to the speaker. I was able to angle the screws so they would hold it together. They have a smaller magnet than on my rear deck speakers, but then they are made to fit in the door.

Pros: easy to install, good sound, not great.

Cons: smaller magnet. holes didn't quite line up with the provided bracket.

2009 Nissan Sentra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This low profile speaker has very good high and mid range performance and good bass. I got this for my girlfriend's 09 sentry front doors and she can hear clearer vocals and better all around sound compared to the 20w factory speakers. The sentra's mounting setup didn't require low profile speaker as the application chart said, but otherwise happy with the speakers.

Pros: Good sound and easy installation.

Cons: Had to trim a couple tabs off the speakers to fit the door adapter.

Perfect fit/sound

2010 Nissan Sentra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Perfect fit and great sound for my 2010 Nissan Sentra. Were the only speakers shallow enough to fit my car's 2.5 in front door panel depth without compromising sound quality. They sound great with my pioneer avh 3500. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Pros: Depth size, outstanding sound quality, good price

Cons: Now I have to buy better speakers for the rear to match the sound quality of these!

RetroSound R-693N speakers hard to install

1957 Ford Thunderbird
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I do like the sounds from them after they are installed inside an enclosure. Before installing under a dashboard they sound very tinny, metal-like. The installation under the d ash was very difficult because the mounting-holes in the speaker did NOT align correctly with the mounting bolts on the car. the speaker 'holes' were about 1/8 inch off from the bolts. I needed to redrill and expand the existing screw-holes in the speaker to match-up with the car bolts. The holes are the 4-corrner-holes that needed re-alignment.

Pros: sound is so far, so good

Cons: the 4-corner mounting-holes on the speaker do not align with all 4 bolts under the dash. I needed to re-drill (expand) 3 of the 4 speaker-holes to align and mount the speaker.

Low Profile Retrosound Speakers

1981 Chevrolet Corvette
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are very low profile and fit into the rear factory speaker locations in my 1981 Corvette. The sound is good, but not exceptional. Perfect solution if you don't want to modify to fit deeper speakers, which is the case with most aftermarked speakers. I tried Polk Audo's and they wouldn't fit. These are a great compromise. Highly recommend if you have space problems and want an upgrade over factory speakers.

Features

Woofer: The speakers feature rigid pulp composite cone woofers with Santoprene surrounds.

Midrange/Tweeters: The tweeter and midrange are low profile Mylar domes.

Neodymium Magnets: The N series speakers feature neodymium magnets. Because neodymium produces a much stronger magnetic field than ferrite (of the same size), the magnet size and mounting depth are substantially reduced.
