Retrosound R-C652N

The right speakers for your vintage vehicle

Retrosound makes it easy to replace the factory speakers in almost any car — classic, vintage, or even brand new. Their RetroMod Series speakers feature extremely shallow baskets designed to fit into a wide variety of standard speaker locations. They may look old school, but Retrosound builds their speakers from the ground up, using the latest techniques and materials.

Sturdy materials, detailed sound

Each R-C652N 6-3/4" woofer features a powerful neodymium magnet and a low-carbon steel frame that form a strong foundation. The rigid polypropylene cone with its Santoprene surround delivers powerful performance while standing up to moisture and humidity. The separate silk dome tweeter broadcasts detailed highs without sounding shrill, and it comes with flush or surface mounting options. The water-resistant external crossover keeps any moisture in your doors away from its sensitive electronics.

Although efficient enough to play well with any receiver alone, these RetroMod speakers can handle the high power from aftermarket amplifiers to deliver your music with plenty of impact. 6-3/4" speakers first appeared in the doors of many 80's vehicles. Replace them with these up-to-date Retrosounds, and your tunes will sound new again, just like your classic ride.

Note: Retrosound describes this model as a 6-1/2" speaker. Most manufacturers designate this same frame size as a 6-3/4" speaker. For simplicity's sake, we list it as a 6-3/4" speaker.

Why install component speakers?

A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.

Features

Water Resistant: The woofers, tweeters, and crossovers are water resistant, so they can be installed in doors, kick panels, and any other area that might be susceptible to leaks.

Woofer Mounting: Although these speakers are marketed as 6-1/2", they will not fit in standard 6-1/2" speaker openings (approximately 5" diameter). Crutchfield has traditionally referred to this size speaker as a 6-3/4" (approximately 5-5/8" diameter cutout required).

Tweeter Mounting: The tweeters can be surface or flush mounted using the included housings. In either housing the tweeter's mounting angle is adjustable to improve imaging.

Mounting Dimensions:

  Surface Mount Flush Mount
Mounting Height 1.657" 0.326"
Depth 0.5" (screw depth) 0.77"
Frame Diameter N/A 2.116"
Cutout Diameter N/A 1.825"
Frame Width 1.812" N/A
Frame Length 1.823" N/A

Crossovers: The crossovers' input and output wires are attached. The 18" woofer output wires are terminated with female quick slides that plug directly onto the woofer terminals. The 18" tweeter output wires are terminated with bullet connectors that mate with the wire attached to the tweeters. The 16" input wires are terminated with 0.25" male quick slides. The crossovers have three tweeter output level options, -6 dB, -3 dB, and 0 dB (flat). The crossovers also have an electronic tweeter protection circuit to minimize the possibility of failure.

Crossover Dimensions:

  • Width: 3-5/8"
  • Height: 1-1/2"
  • Depth: 3-1/4"

Great components and other Crutchfield gear in a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Un

Written By John U, Kenosha, Wi on Tuesday, August 13, 2013

My Daughter just started driving and she wanted a Jeep. So a few months back we got her a 2013 Jeep Wrangler unlimited. Last weekend I had our local audio shop install all Crutchfield sourced gear into her Jeep. Head unit: Alpine 927 Navigation, Alpine 5 channel amp, JL Stealth box w/ 13" slim woofer, Retrosound component kit, Retrosound 652N 6.5" speakers, and the shop supplied the hard work to put it in--- also got from crutchfield the back up camera, and they recommended a special package and interface so she gets to keep her steering wheel controls, the installer had no problems putting the gear in, and all the crutchfield gear fit and worked flawlessly. I'm writing this review because I want everyone to know how darn good these component speakers sounded, I use Retrosound gear in all my classic cars ( 66 VW bug & 66 Mustang) --- WOW, I was blown away, how nice these sounded, the combo of the stealth box, amp and these components with the Retrosound 6.5" were downright breathtaking--- truly the best system I have ever heard in a car. a night and day upgrade from the gutless factory system. Kudos need to go to crutchfield for making sure I had all the wiring and interfaces to do the install myself (which would never happen in these newer cars)--- my installer was impressed with what Crutchfield supplied (apparently here in Wisconsin, they're a bit behind with some of the new car tech). I'm just plain jealous now! --- John

Pros: I have to say, when it comes to selling radios for new cars, crutchfield is on the ball, their website and phone service Rocks! they've always been spot on when I've purchased my Retrosound products, but now I'll go this route too for my newer cars--- Car stereo is still alive!!

Cons: Pricing was fair, their RCA cable selection seemed a bit sparse, so I had to get them locally, but that's really the only con i have.
