Free dash and knob kit with your order

You will need to select a dash and knob kit with this receiver to acheive a complete vintage look:

Retrosound makes kits with faceplates and knobs that match the interiors of a wide range of classic vehicles. Please enter your vehicle information to find the faceplate kit for your classic car. If your vehicle doesn't appear in our database, call us at 1-888-955-6000 so we can find the right kit for your dash.

Old school looks, new technology

Retrosound's Model Two digital media receiver brings the modern world to your vintage vehicle. Now you can cruise in style and still enjoy iPod® control, Bluetooth® hands-free phone calls, and other amenities. Retrosound designed the Model Two receiver to mount in almost any classic car, using an ingenious adjustable shaft system that adapts to any dash opening. And the Model Two is available in black, chrome, ivory, black/chrome, or chrome/black, so you'll have a perfect match for your classic car's interior. (Note: this receiver does not play CDs.)

Hands-free calling and digital sound

The Model Two looks like an old-fashioned radio, but it offers all the modern conveniences. You can talk hands-free or stream audio programming to the receiver with your smartphone, and you can connect your iPod or USB thumb drive to the two rear USB ports. You'll find two auxiliary inputs on the rear of the receiver for other sources, like a satellite radio tuner. The Model Two also offers excellent AM/FM reception, and will display song titles from any radio station that's broadcasting text information.

Installation options

This Retrosound receiver features three sets of preamp outputs that make it easier to add amps and subs to your vehicle. You can adjust your bass from the driver's seat using the subwoofer level controls and variable low-pass crossover. Here's another cool feature that Henry Ford never could have imagined — you can choose from 32,000 backlight colors so the adjustable-angle LCD display will look just right in your dash.

Free vintage-look screen protectors included

Your RetroSound Model Two includes three clear plastic screen protectors with old-school "radio dial" numbers. They'll add style to your receiver while still allowing you to see the digital numbers behind the graphics. They're easy to apply, they look great, and they'll help prevent scratches and everyday damage. You'll get three distinct designs that blend right in with your car's interior.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

This digital media receiver will not play CDs. If you want to play CDs in your vehicle, we offer a wide selection of CD receivers.

    Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

    Shaft-Style Radio

Infinimount Shaft/Bracket System: The Infinimount Shaft/Bracket System allows you to mount the Model 2 radio in a variety of classic cars. This is because the shaft-knobs are not mounted to the unit, but instead connect to the unit via a harness so you can space the radio's shaft knobs at various distances (0.3125"-2.1875") from the chassis of the radio, using the supplied side-mount brackets. You can move these brackets forward or backward and move them in any direction. You can even cut, trim, or bend the brackets if needed. This shaft-style radio is a true problem solver for tough to fit applications due to its unique bracket system combined with small mounting size.

Available Installation Kits: There are multiple vehicle specific faceplate & knob kits available (sold separately), as well as an universal faceplate that fits the Model 2 which allows you to use the integrated break away tabs to modify all aspects of height & width of the plate, and even drill in your own shaft holes to fit virtually any car.

Note: The RetroSound Model 2 does not come with a faceplate or shaft-knobs. A universal mounting kit or vehicle specific mounting kit will be needed for installation. Click here for a list of available installation kits.

Variable-Color LCD: The RetroSound Model 2 features variable color display illumination. You can choose from one of 32 preset colors, have the unit scan through all 32 preset colors continuously, or customize your own color (RGB; 0-9). The custom setting allows you to individually adjust the intensity of Red, Green, and Blue (from 0-9) to better match your vehicle's interior lights. You can also adjust the brightness of the display from High or Low. The unit's front-panel display offers an enhanced viewing angle and is daylight compatible. The LCD will display clock, audio settings, tuner stations, and song/artist information from discs, USB, and iPod/iPhone.

    Variety of Sources

Built-in Bluetooth: The RetroSound Model 2 is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (HFP/A2DP/AVRCP) allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone to the head unit. Before using your Bluetooth enabled device, it must be paired to the Model 2. You can only pair one device at a time with this unit. Once paired, when your Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the RetroSound receiver, the auto connection function automatically connects the two units. The Model 2 is compatible with most Bluetooth enabled mobile phones, including the Apple iPhone, Blackberry, and Android smartphones.

    • Hands-Free Communication: The Model 2 allows for wireless communication between the head unit and your Bluetooth enabled cell-phone. You can answer an incoming call from the head unit's front-panel control knobs. Incoming phone call information will be displayed on the unit's front-panel LCD and your music will be pause or muted. You will still use your phone to dial a phone number and then the call will transfer to the RetroSound radio. Use the included external microphone to speak into during your phone conversation, while the other party will be heard through your vehicle's speakers.
    • Wireless Audio Streaming: The Model 2 also allows you to play back stored music and  music apps from your Bluetooth-enabled phone or personal music player using a paired Bluetooth connection. Playback controls included Play/Pause, Stop, & Next/Previous Track. This unit does not display song/artist information from Bluetooth audio devices.
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the RetroSound Model 2.

Dual USB Ports: The RetroSound Model 2 features two USB (type-A) ports connected to its rear chassis by a 40" pigtail. The USB ports enable connection of  portable USB mass-storage class (MSC) devices; such as your Android smartphone, portable digital audio player, or USB thumbdrive. Once you've connected your compatible USB device, the Model 2 will find your songs instantly and automatically start playing them. You will be able to control basic playback functions of your music files such as Play, Pause, Skip Track, Intro Scan, Repeat Track, and Random. This unit supports MP3 (128 kbps +) and WMA (64 kbps +) in format FAT and FAT32. The unit can recognize a maximum of 999 songs/files (files will be read in order of creation and not alphabetically or numerically). The Model 2 also supports ID3-tags/WMA-tags for song/artist information.  USB portable audio players that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the receiver's USB port (max. 0.5A), and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.

Note: You cannot connect a USB device via a USB hub or Multi-Card Reader to this unit.

iPod Direct Connection w/ DAC Bypass: Either rear-panel USB port can act as an iPod/iPhone high-speed direct connection when used with the USB/iPod cable that came with your iPod/iPhone. The USB connection allows your iPod/iPhone's stored music and music apps to be loaded instantly to the unit and sound quality to be maximized through the head unit's 1-bit D/A converter. The RetroSound Model 2 supports audio playback of stored music or music apps, music navigation, information display, and charging of select iPod/iPhone models.

    • iPod Control: You can control your connected iPod/iPhone from the head unit's front-panel control knobs. You can browse your iPod/iPhone's music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Genre, Composer, or Podcast.  In addition, you can activate Repeat playback modes (all/track). Most iPod/iPhone device's clickwheel or touchscreen will be locked during connection (Apple devices w/ iOS 6.0+ will stay unlocked).
    • iPod Display: The Model 2 will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information from stored music. The head unit will display Track number, Elapsed playing time, Artist name and Song/Album title.
    • iPod Charging: The unit's USB connection provides 0.5A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position. This unit does not charge the iPad. If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.

iPod/iPhone Compatibility Chart: The RetroSound Model 2 is "Made for iPod/iPhone" compatible and supports the following iPod/iPhone model features (as of 7/31/2013):

Dual Auxiliary Inputs: The universal shaft-style receiver features two 3.5mm auxiliary inputs connected to the rear chassis by 7" pigtails. The Aux inputs provide a connection for portable external audio sources such as a MP3 player or  CD player.

RDS AM/FM Tuner: The Model 2 features a built-in RDS AM/FM tuner. The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist & track information when listening to compatible AM/FM stations. The unit's tuner features 3 FM bands and 2 AM bands. A total of 30 AM/FM presets can be stored manually or automatically. Select between Local and Distant settings can aid in listening to weak FM radio stations or compensate for stations that have too strong of a signal. This unit's tuner can be set to USA or European tuning.

    22W x 4Ch Amplifier: The Model 2 is equipped with a 22 watts x 4-channel RMS/60 watts x 4-channel Peak amplifier.

6Ch/2.85V RCA Outputs: The universal shaft-style receiver features front, rear and subwoofer 2.85-volt RCA outputs. The front and rear speaker RCA outputs are balance and fade adjustable. The subwoofer RCA output is non-fading.

Subwoofer Control: When the subwoofer RCA output is active, you can adjust the output level (0-12) of the sub output. You can also set the low-pass crossover to 80, 120, or 160Hz.

Equalizer: The Model 2 features the following preset EQ curves (Classic, Pop, Rock, or Off) to customize your music listening. The Off mode activates a 3-Band EQ which lets you adjust Bass, Midrange, & Treble manually.

    3-Band EQ
    Frequency Level
    Bass 60, 80, 100, 200 Hz -7 to +7
    Midrange 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.5 kHz  -7 to +7
    Treble 10.0, 12.5, 15.0, 17.5 kHz -7 to +7

XBAS: This function boosts bass & treble at low listening volumes, and should be turned off at higher listening levels.

Balance & Fader Control: The Balance adjustment function allows you to adjust or pan the stereo sound from the left or right; this is helpful to compensate for the position of the driver in relation to the speaker locations. Adjustment range is 0 to 12. The Fader Control allows you to fade the sound from the front pair of speaker to your rear pair of speakers. Adjustment range is 0 to 12.

Turn-On Volume: You can set the Model 2 to power-on to the same volume level (0-46) every time, or let it default to the last volume when turned off.

Key Beep: When this function is enabled, every knob turn or button press will output a beep tone.

    Great look in 67-72 Buicks

Perfect fit and look in my 67 skylark, with 70-72 Buick trim kit. Sound quality could be better at high volume. I'm sure an amp will greatly help with that.

Just what I was looking for

This unit had everything I needed, and skipped the CD/tape (old media) I didn't need ...just installed into a fresh project on a classic car, will have to work out noise issues if they arise, but that can be expected. Works well with BT audio and Amplified speakers ...good to hide USB and 3.5mm jacks in glovebox for future connections on long trips

    Pros: Great for Classic Car

Cons: Sensitive to engine noise, but with filters can be addressed (would happen with any unit)

Very, very good but not perfect

Pros: 1. The sound and tone control is excellent.

Cons: 1. Filler panel that makes the radio fit the dash hole is chromed plastic. It scratches easily so you've got to be careful with it. Should be chromed metal. 2. When power is disconnected from the unit, the radio loses all it's settings including the radio presets. I have a cutoff switch on my battery and that is going to be an annoyance. 3. Can't turn power switch off to cut bluetooth connection. 4. Directory display when playing mp3's off of USB drive is poor. 5. Gets hot if not using amp

Fit our 1967 Ford F250 (one year radio/dash design). Without truck modifications! (Even though it's not "recomended)". We just used the flat, universal faceplate. Easy to install and hook-up.

Pros: Fit the truck and had the extras we were looking for. Does not look like a new radio in an old truck.

Cons: Knobs did not fit. Poor quality. One set did not fit over the control shafts. Have not contacted company yet but we're sure they will fix the problem. A lot of different button movements to memorize but with all the options we're sure any radio built to look "old" would have the same problem.

I was very happy with the ease of instillation in my 1971 Chevelle SS. The way I did it was to measure the spacing on my old radio and cut the brackets and attach the posts to match. It fit in very nice. I had to trim the corners of the face plate and radius the corners but it was no big effort with a pedestal disc sander. The ease of matching to my iphone 5c was a joy. The auto programming for the radio is great. The only problem I had was the knobs are for a 1970 radio. I had to ask for knobs that were a closer match, and Crutchfield sent them to me. So far I am astisfied.

    Pros: Easy install.

    Cons: Wrong knobs.

Love the product overall. It looks like the original system for my '79 El Camino. The only issue I have is that it is not easy to get set up and use. But once operational, it has worked extremely well.

Pros: Looks and sounds great. Has multiple features that make the "original look" system up-to-date.

Cons: It is difficult to get set up. Haven't had it installed very long, I hope as I get use to it, it will become easier.

This unit was very easy to install and was far superior to my previous after market vintage sound that mounted in my camaro. the blue tooth sound feature was a pleasant surprise and negated the need for a ipod attachment cord.

Pros: great sound, multiple inputs, bluetooth phone and music.

Cons: radio tuner still woefully deficient, needs a siriusXM module

It seems the possibilities are limitless. While as others have said these take some patience to install, the effort is worth it. If you have a classic and want a period look with a capable receiver this is it. I installed this in my 76 Triumph TR6 and it looks original. I used the kit for Fiats, as you're given a black faceplate with chrome edge.

Pros: unlimited installation possibilities, great features, classic look GREAT customer service. I received a bad faceplate and these folks took immediate action. Great company.

Cons: while easy to put together. It will take you some time to get everything just right for your car. If you have an existing radio in there you could put them side by side to set up the new one and save yourself a few trips in and out of the dash. I DON'T even really consider this a CON.

This radio shipped directly from Retrosund. First, Retrosound uses UPS, who takes ten days to ship from Vegas to FL. Then, the thing didn't work and I had to return it to Retro (two days and twelve dollars). Retro claims they fixed it, and put back on UPS, who now takes another ten days to reship. So now, a month after ordering the Model 2, and I still don't have it, and thus am unable to write a review, much less listen to the thing.

Wanted a radio for a restored 1985 Chevy truck and did not want to cut the dash to install a new one. The Retrosound Model Two radio fit like a glove in the dashboard without any modifications. Looks good and sounds great!

Pros: Looks good, sounds great, and easy to install.

Because this unit is infinitely adjustable it take a little time to get it set up just right. Setting the center to center of the posts is pretty quick, but it was an iterative to get the depth just right. The instructions were a little unclear on the use of the various bushings and washers... Once installed it sounds great the interface with my ipod is intuitive and FM reception better than expected with an aftermarket hidden antenna.

Pros: adjustability to adapt to various applications.

    Cons: Installation instructions weren't great.

I had my doubts about buying this, but my original 75 Beetle Blaupunkt Radio couldn't provide me what I wanted, even though I had an auxillary connection wired into the back so I could plug in my cell phone. I listen to a lot of talk radio and only digital tuning could really lock it in for me. This Model Two is amazing. Now I have 2 aux, 2 usb, and Bluetooth. - It kinda looks in the pictures like it's made of cheap materials, but now having one I see how wrong I was. It's very tough, and with a lot of patience and carefulness I used the ample setup kit to have it installed in the dash perfectly, and solid. I spent about 2 hours to get it exactly right. The electrical connections were clear and easy. I'm especially a stickler when it comes to the wiring. I solder and shrink tube everything. - I give this Retrosound my highest recommendation.

Pros: Good quality materials, clear and logical controls, maintains old-style look, plenty of ways to connect, and can customize the screen color.

    Cons: None so far.

I installed this in my 1969 Suburban and its great. I have not added any amps to it yet but the unit runs my 6x9's and 5 1/4" just fine. I have used the USB and bluetooth. The screen changes colors all the time and have not looked into stoping this yet. I have pic's of the install http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=530626&page=3

Pros: Clean great looking unit for a "kinda stock" look.

Cons: Can be a bit tricky to install with all the adjustment. I found taking the face plate out to the truck and testfitting it and marking the shaft points helped.

Looks very nice with the Sapphire trim. I had to build a custom shelf for support as the included strap does not cut it. The wiring is straight forward. On the 65 bug, the constant 12 volt wire goes on the left fuse connection and the switched red 12v goes on the extreme right fuse connection. No problem running the microphone wire for the phone down the left windshield pillar. Works good with my iphone 5.

Pros: Looks good. No dash modifications. Easy to operate.

    Cons: MADE IN CHINA.

Excellent product for those who don't want to cut up their stock dash to fit a newer display head unit. All the functionality of the newer style head unit is there with blue tooth, IPod/IPad connectivity, etc. The ability to customize the color display to your other gauges, etc. is a nice feature as well. I paired mine with a JVC 1,000 watt amp, JBL 10" sub and Infinity 5 1/4 and 6X9 set-up and it sounds great. The integrated EQ with separate sub-woofer control makes it very convenient to tune the system to your liking. Would buy this unit again.

This radio fit in to a 1984 Excalibur with out a bit of problem. difficult radio to replace because of dash size. original face plate fit OK. knobs protrude a bit. Easy wiring from old radio even with electric antenna. Radio pumps in to a factory 120 watt amp with 6 speakers,so I can keep up with the younger guys a car shows. (and blow there doors off) a lot of extra things that I have not figured out what thay are for. Blue tooth ?

Pros: All good, a bit pricy, a base model would have been fine. with out all the bells.

Cons: I bought the car at 50 yrs. new, 30 years latter I'm to old to be up side down replacing radios, but I love it,

    Nice features but expensive

Looks to be a decent unit, but I feel it was a bit overpriced even with the discount that Crutchfield gives over list price. The unit was pretty easy to install and included everything needed to get it done. Was easy to synch my iPhone with and play tunes over BlueTooth and worked well on a phone call that came in while I was still finishing some of the installation. The screen seems like it will give off a fair amount of glare/reflection that may make it a bit tough to see the screen at times (to be fair though I haven't had it out on the road yet).

The knobs seem a bit sensitive and may create some challenges when changing inputs etc. while driving by skipping over what you are trying to get to.

All in all seems like a decent unit.

Pros: Looks good Lots of features Bluetooth

Cons: Possibly some glare issues Expensive

The new Retrosound model 2 radio is Great. It's small and light and looks good in my 1969 cutlass 442 dash. I bought this radio for all the features it has, like the buttons on the radio that make it old. The knobs look like the older knobs. It tunes in the radio stations really good. Then you have all the preset stations that you can tune in. With the Polk speakers i bought from Crutchfield, this radio sounds great. When I can't find anything on the radio I have the I Pod I can plug in. I can listen to what ever I want to listen to, Rock, County, Oldies, or anything on my I Pod by a click of button. That's Great. Then you have the Bluetooth. With a push of a button you can answer your phone hands free. You don't have to fight to get to your phone. All I can say is that it's a Great radio for the price.

Pros: Bluetooth, I Pod, flash drive, back light color and light weight

Cons: Knobs take time to get used to

I've purchased a couple of Retrosound radios over the past few years for my 67 VW Bug and my 66 Mustang-- and was happy with them. They had a few bugs, but they were light years ahead of anything else out there that would fit my cars. Crutchfield has always given me great service. I got the Model 2 IVO last month for my VW bug, and was blown away as to how it looks in my dash. The Model 2 I got was the one with ivory push buttons and ivory knobs, at first glance in looking at the interior of my car you'd never know it was a modern featured radio. This thing performs great and looks great doing it. I bring my iPad to car shows and it's got a ton of music on it, I can stream music from my iPad through this radio and it sounds amazing. I am using the Retrosound kick panels and their 6.5" DVC dash speaker and have a sound ordinance 8" sub under my passenger seat, it's a great combo and love the sound quality. This will make my Friday night cruises so nice down Sheridan road, and my visits with the family through the 50's style drive thrus we have here so nice--- my bowling buddies are quite envious, you should have seen their face when I changed the music tracks streaming from my Pandora account from the phone--- they wanted one for their classic cars too! --- Thanks Crutchfield for great service and to Retrosound for making such a full featured radio, you were close before, but now you've got it right--- Awesome! --- Safe Cruising--- John

Pros: -- Bluetooth (both hands free, and audio streaming) --- multi color backlighting (matches my red dakota digital guages perfectly --- iPod/iPhone control via the radio--- this rocks --- charges my iPhone, in an almost 50 year old car--- ! --- sub output w/ volume control-- connected the Model Two's sub out to my powered Sound Ordinance subwoofer-- what a great feature! --- appearance--- nothing made today looks this good --- they have the vw look down pat, you won't believe the look!

Cons: -- Need patience to install--- these take some work to put in, but when it's done you'll be happy -- You'll get sick of people asking you about it, so bone up on all the features --- the manual is 40 pages!

Has promise, but doesn't work for me.

Not a lot of review or commentary out there, and barely any details on how the ipod/iphone support works.

For me, I need to be able to access ratings, playlists, etc - basically be able to control the ipod -from- the ipod, but also be able track skip and autostart/autostop using the head unit.

Alas - the retrosound model two can ONLY operate the ipod/iphone in accessory mode, which prevents any control using the i device.

On the plus side: trim kits look nice and flexible, with plenty of options (be warned - crutchfield did not actually include the trim kit with my order to RS, so RS didn't ship one. so I've only seen pictures).

Feature set (6 channel out, build in crossovers, etc) looked extremely nice and just what I wanted.... the bluetooth support would have been an interesting plus.

But my primary need is for proper ipod control, and this fails at that.

    :(

Pros: nice feature set, flexible knob layout, build in crossover and sub out...

    Cons: useless ipod control.
