Where no speaker has gone before

Where no speaker has gone before

You've got a classic vehicle that needs some music in it, but your vehicle didn't include factory speaker locations, and there's no room behind the factory panels for installing new speakers. Enter Retrosound's RetroPod modules.

The RetroPod RPOD9 surface-mount module lets you choose the locations for new speakers in your vehicle. Mount the two modules on your kick panels, doors, rear deck, or any suitable flat surface, then run some speaker wire to your car stereo or amplifier. You can then install your choice of 5"x7", 6-1/2", or 6"x9" speakers in the modules. With the included cutout template for a tweeter, you can also install a 6-1/2" component speaker system.

Customize your application

You can paint or carpet the ABS plastic modules to match your interior. The modules also include mesh grilles to complete the installation.

Installation note: Using the template that Retrosound provides in the modules, you'll need to cut and file the mounting hole in the modules for the speakers you install. You'll also need to drill mounting holes for screws that secure the speakers. You'll want to consider professional installation if you don't have the proper tools.

Product Research

Features

Overview: RetroSound's R-POD9 surface-mount modules offer an easy way to add speakers in non-factory locations. They are mounted using screws (not included) to secure four tabs on the under side of the module to a flat surface (approximately 10" x 13-1/4" minimum) in the vehicle.

Installation: You will need to cut out the speaker mounting holes in the plastic R-POD9. Lines are scored on the speaker mounting surface, designed for 6x9, 6x8, 5x7 and component sets with 6-1/2 or 6-3/4 woofers (be sure to measure your specific speakers before cutting). Because the R-POD is angled (approximately 10°), the exact allowable mounting depth varies with size and shape of the speaker basket. The depth is 2-1/4 inches at the center of the opening, so the allowable depth of a typical speaker is approximately 2". Using the included grilles, there is approximately 5/8 of an inch allowable mounting height and the frame measurements of the speakers should not exceed 7-3/8" x 10-7/16". Once the hole is cut for the speaker, the four tabs for mounting the R-POD are accessible through the opening.

Compatibility: RetroSound recommends using their R-573N, R-693, R-693N, or R-C652N speakers with the R-POD9, but other brand speakers can also be used.
