Affordable multimedia goodness

If you're looking for a full-featured multimedia car stereo without a big price tag, Axxera's AV6336MB DVD receiver includes touchscreen controls on a sharp 6.2" screen, DualMirror™ technology to show your smartphone's display on the big screen, and lots of music and video options. Axxera also backs up this receiver with a 2-year warranty.

What you'll need for DualMirror

The DualMirror function relies on the receiver's rear HDMI input to display your smartphone's apps, while the rear USB port charges your phone. With your smartphone connected, you'll see your apps in action on the receiver's display. You can check out turn-by-turn directions from your navigation apps, as well as artist and track info from your music apps. And with Android™ phones, you can control your phone's function by using the Axxera's touchscreen controls.

Here's the lowdown on what you need depending on your smartphone:

Bluetooth® for hands-free calling and audio streaming

You'll be able to carry on hands-free phone conversations using the receiver's microphone, strategically built into the front of the receiver for a simpler installation. And it'll work with most phones for wireless streaming audio, including displaying ID3 tags from your music files, so you can see album, artist, and song title info while on the go.

3-band parametric EQ and 4-volt preamp outputs

The AV6336MB lets you to play your own music on DVD, CD, or a USB drive. You can use the robust 3-band parametric equalizer to adjust the tone of your music, or just click on the one of seven presets for quick adjustments. The three pairs of RCA preamp outputs will send out an ultra-clean 4-volt signal when it's time to add amps to your system.

Lots of video options

You can watch your favorite DVDs on the built-in screen whenever you're parked, or send movies to two rear-seat screens when you're on the move. This Axxera includes front and rear A/V inputs, so you can add a portable video player or video game console to the multimedia mix. The rear camera input lets you connect a backup camera, handy for maneuvering in tight spots.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

    Touchscreen & Remote Control

6.2" LCD Touchscreen: The Axxera AV6336MB features a 6.2" LCD touchscreen monitor (800x480) with LED backlighting. This unit's touchscreen controls with interactive video graphics make menu navigation simple and intuitive. You can adjust the screen's brightness, color, contrast, and tint levels. You can also select from three different wallpapers/backgrounds.

Note: For safety reasons, you cannot view a video source on the built-in monitor as long as the vehicle is in motion. In order to display video, the pink wire of the included harness must be hardwired into the vehicle's parking brake light circuit, and the vehicle's parking brake must be engaged. However, mirroring your smartphone through the head unit's DualMirror feature can be done with or without the parking brake engaged.

Hard-Key Controls: In addition to the unit's LCD touchscreen controls, the Axxera receiver also features hard-key controls on the left edge of the screen; including a 3-way rotary dial.

Variable Color Illumination: Offering over 16 million color combinations, the head unit's RGB feature allows you to customize the color illumination for the receiver's hard-key buttons and on-screen icons. Now you'll be able to match the receiver's illumination to your vehicle's interior lighting, or create a color that fits your mood.

IR Remote: The Axxera AV6336MB comes supplied with a 40-button IR remote control which provides wireless operation of the Axxera DVD receiver.

Built-in SWC: The Axxera AV6336MB offers built-in steering wheel remote compatibility with select non-CAN Bus GM, Ford/Lincoln/Mercury, Honda, Kia/Hyundai, Mazda, Nissan, & Toyota/Scion/Lexus vehicles.

Note: This unit only works with analog steering wheel controls; it does not support any data-bus systems. This unit is not compatible with external steering wheel control interfaces.
    Smartphone Integration

DualMirror Input: The Axxera AV6336MB features a rear-panel HDMI audio/video input and USB charging port for connection of select Apple iOS devices and MHL-enabled Android smartphones. You'll be able to listen to audio from stored music and music apps, watch video from stored movies and movie apps, and view navigation apps on your compatible Apple iOS or MHL-enabled Android smartphone, using the head unit's HDMI input and USB (2.1A) charging port (know as the "DualMirror" input). The HDMI connection provides the audio/video playback, while the USB connection charges your compatible Apple iOS or Android device. You will need to purchase additional cables for connection based on your type of smartphone device (see below).

    • Apple iOS Connectivity: If you have a newer Apple iPod touch or iPhone with the Lightning connector, you will need Apple's Lightning Digital AV adapter, Apple's Lightning-to-USB cable, and a mobile-grade HDMI cable (all sold separately). If you have an older iPhone 4/4S or iPod touch (4th gen) with a 30-pin Dock connector, you will need Apple's Digital AV adapter, Apple's dock-to-USB cable, and a mobile-grade HDMI cable (all sold separately).
    • Android Connectivity: Most MHL-enabled Android devices, will require Axxera's microUSB 5-pin to HDMI/USB cable (070SL55A, sold separately). If you have a Samsung Galaxy S3/S4/S5 or Note II/III/IV, you will need Axxera's microUSB 11-pin to HDMI/USB cable (070SL113A, sold separately). Click here for a complete list of MHL-compatible smartphones.
    • DualCast WiFi Dongle: To make DualMirror smartphone integration with this Axxera multimedia receiver even more seamless, Dual has introduced the all new DMH25 DualCast WiFi dongle (070DMH25, sold separately) to wirelessly connect your Android smartphone (Jelly Bean 4.2+) or Apple iPhone (iOS 4.2+) to the multimedia receiver.
Notes: Your vehicle's parking brake does not have to be engaged for the DualMirror input to function, so please use caution.

DualMirror 2-Way App (for Android): Download the DualMirror 2-Way App, from the Google Play App Store, onto your MHL-enabled Android (OS 2.0+) smartphone to allow control of the smartphone from the Axxera AV6336MB's LCD touchscreen. In addition, to HDMI & USB connectivity, the DualMIrror 2-Way App requires a wireless Bluetooth connection between your compatible Android smartphone and the AV6336MB in-dash receiver. Control from the head unit's touchscreen is available with or without your vehicle's parking brake engaged, so please use caution.

Note: Even though the AV6336MB will mirror the display of your connected Apple iOS or MHL-Enabled device, it will not always allow you to operate playback functions of your mobile device through the head unit. Apple iOS devices do not support the DualMirror 2-Way app, nor control from the head unit's touchscreen. Some Android devices will not support the DualMirror 2-Way app, nor control from the head unit. These non-compatible 2-way devices, will require control from the mobile device's touchscreen.

Built-in Bluetooth: The Axxera AV6336MB features built-in Bluetooth (v.2.0) Technology. With built-in Bluetooth, you can wirelessly connect your Bluetooth capable mobile phone to listen to calls through your car's audio system. The AV6336MB allows you to carry on a phone conversation from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone using the head unit's integrated front-panel microphone and your car audio speakers. Your car audio speakers will mute automatically during a call.
      • Incoming Calls: The AV6336MB allows you to answer and end a call from the head unit's touchscreen monitor. Incoming phone call information will be displayed on the unit's LCD monitor.
      • Making a Call: You can make a call from the AV6336MB using the unit's on-screen keypad (0-9), your phone's downloaded phonebook, or a call history data log of dialed/received/missed calls.
    • Audio Streaming: The Axxera AV6336MB also allows you to play back stored music and streamed music from your Bluetooth enabled smartphone, tablet, or personal music player using a Bluetooth connection. You can control (Play/Pause/Skip) the music stored on your Bluetooth audio player from the AV6336MB. This unit also displays song/artist information from your connected Bluetooth device.

Note: Before using the unit's Bluetooth functions, you must pair your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone or audio device to the AV6336MB. 24-Bit DAC: The Axxera AV6336MB DVD receiver utilizes a high-performance 24-bit DAC for high quality sound.

MOSFET Amplifier: The Axxera AV6336MB is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the AV6336MB are as follows:

    • RMS Output: 16 watts x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Peak Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 watts total)
Note: The power specifications for the AV6336MB are compliant with the CTA 2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

4V/6Ch RCA Outputs + Sub Control: The AV6336MB features front, rear and subwoofer 4-volt RCA outputs. The front and rear speaker RCA outputs are balance and fade adjustable; the subwoofer RCA output is non-fading. The subwoofer RCA output offers independent volume control (1-12) and features a built-in low pass filter which can be set to 80, 120, or 160Hz.

Dual EQ: The AV6336MB is equipped with Dual EQ software. The integrated equalizer offers 7 preset sound modes (Pop, Rock, Jazz, Classic, Beat, Flat, or User) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's 6-band parametric EQ (Frequency, Q-Factor, & Level).

    Tone
    Frequency Q-factor Level
    Bass Low 60, 80, 100, 200 Hz 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 2.0 -7 to +7
    Low/Mid
    Midrange Mid 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.5 kHz 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.25 -7 to +7
    Mid/High
    Treble High 10, 12, 15, 17.5 kHz Fixed -7 to +7
    Super High

Loudness: The Loudness feature boosts certain frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. The Loudness feature can be set to 3 levels and its Center Frequency can be adjusted to 400Hz, 800Hz, 2400Hz, or Flat.

Beep Tones: An audible beep tone confirms each function selection. The beep tone can be disabled/enabled in the Setup Menu.

AM/FM Tuner (w/ RDS): The Axxera AV6336MB features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, & preset tuning. The built-in AM/FM tuner allows you to store up to 18 FM station presets and 12 AM station presets. You can tune your presets manually or have the head unit do it automatically. The Local function allows only strong radio stations to be received, blocking stations with weaker signals.

    • RDS: The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible FM stations.
    • European Tuning: You can switch the tuner between USA or European tuning.
    AV Connections

Aux Input: There is a front-panel 3.5mm Aux input (audio only) for connecting an external audio device, such as a portable audio player.

AV Inputs: There is a rear-panel composite video/stereo RCA input for connection of an external audio/video source, such as a Blu-ray player or TV tuner.

Video Outputs: In addition, the DVD receiver features two rear-panel composite video outputs for integration of a ceiling-mounted or headrest entertainment system in your vehicle. The video output will display whatever video signal (DVD or AV-IN) that is being displayed on the head unit's touchscreen monitor. The video out function is not compatible with the unit's HDMI input.

Rear-View Camera Input: The Camera Input consists of a Composite video RCA jack for connecting an optional rear-view back-up camera (sold separately). This RCA input enables you to connect a rear-view camera to display the area behind your vehicle. The increased view encourages and facilitates safer driving. When an optional rearview camera is connected to this unit, the rear view image is displayed on the screen when your vehicle is placed in reverse gear (orange wire of harness must be connected to reverse light wire of vehicle). Automatic video switching takes approximately 1.1 seconds.

You have to use the built in one, which works pretty good. Just remember, if you have any Samsung android phone, you will not be able to use the Dual Mirror feature without a wireless dongle.

To be honest, I don't know. I've been using my Plantronics ear piece with the radio because the built in mic is just not good enough. If you do find that you an use an external mic please let me know.

A secondary microphone would've been great but there is no provision for one.. I tested mine by calling someone and they said they heard me loud and clear compared to a brand they had that was designed the same way.

    Q
Will the android app let me mirror my screen or do I still need a cable?
    jason  Mar 18, 2016

    A
Ok. Apparently I should have read the description more closely. I have a relative newer Android phone but it is not MHL enabled. Therefore, I am unable to mirror my phone to the screen: "Select MHL-enabled Android phones: You'll connect your Android to the Axxera receiver with Dual's SL115A cable, SL113A cable, SL55A cable, or another HDMI/USB cable that's compatible with your Android phone"
    jason  Apr 08, 2016

The unit comes with a usb and an HDMI extension from the back. The cable was just long enough to poke out underneath the radio console so there was no need to modify the cars faceplate. I just use my charger cable to the USB to mirror.
    daryl  Mar 20, 2016

While you can mirror compatible apps from a compatible phone, it will have to be physically connected to the stereo with the proper cable for this feature. You will find this information under the "Overview" tab on the stereo's main webpage. I hope that helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5
