Unimpressed

I owned this unit for roughly 2 years. For the price the features were few and far between. You can get a much better unit for the price this unit costs. I had the unit eating cd's after roughly a year. I returned it and got a new unit. However, Dual customer support was terrible, I wrote and called and wrote some more never got a response. Audio quality was solid, video was ok too. I had some issues with radio reception. This unit runs fairly hot and needs a good bit of space behind the unit to sit the dozen or so wires on the back. This unit would be a much better mobile video unit if it were in the $300-$350 range. All in all, for the cash your gonna dish out for this unit you can find a much better one from a better brand.

ill start off by saying that when i purchased this unit about a year ago, it was 600 dollars. and personally i try to stray away from off brand electronic purchases and i went against my conscience and bought it from crutchfield. it worked well for the first month or so then started becoming a very frustrating piece of equipment. problems that i have had with this unit are as follows (not in any specific order)
1. Will not resume song from ipod where you left off, will restart song when you start up your car again.
2. gear drive gave out, making it very diffucult to adjust the angle of viewing, and very hard to close.
3. eq setting defaults when unit is shut off, causing me to have to reset my eq everytime i got in the car.
4. ipod controlls very wacky, will show incorrect song titles for the music your hearing, it is also very slow to respond to selections. sometimes shows song and you want to select it, and it chooses something completely different. doesnt shuffle songs properly and will replay songs again and again even if the repeat option is off. cannot pause song for more than 5 seconds without recieving a "reset ipod" error at the top of the console. when searching through lubrary while a song is playing, you have very limited time to select or search, or the screen will switch back to tne now playing screen. very frustrating while trying to drive.
5. just recently stopped playing dvd's, and recently after that even stopped accepting cd's, will eject them immediatley after insertion.
that is just some of the major problems, im very limitled with 1700 characters, and that limitation doesnt let me completely cover all the problems with this unit.

Dual XDVD8182
Written By

October 9, 2006 I purchased a Dual AM/FM/DVD Player MDL#XDVD8182 for my pickup truck. I had it installed professionally and it work fine for the first couple months. Then when I would play cds it began to shoot out error codes across the screen when it was closed and would only play loud static through the speakers like a radio station wasn't tuned in completely. It continued to do it every so often but to fix it for a short time I turn off the power and restarted it. As of the begining of August it began not accepting or ejecting cds properly. As of the end of October it will not accept or eject cds or movies at all. I really enjoy Dual products but this experience is shying my away from them.

Its a DVD player above all

I bought this unit for the price and other little things about it.
It plays movies great and the screen has a nicer picture than my Kenwood. I like how you can have it open/ close automotically or not.
It has more features for DVD audio than it does for CD/ Tuner/ ipod combined. It has 5.1 output. The sub preamp is actually mono (kinda rare - good).
The touchscreen is not adjustable to sensitivity, you have to press a little firm for it to work sometimes - but it is ok.
I have not used the ipod interface so I cant comment on that. But I do have my Creative Zen Video. And i can play music and videos from it to the stereo. Works like a charm.

Good reciever
Written By

I have had this DVD reciever for about 5 days now and so far everything is working perfect. Basically it is a great low cost reciever with out all the gadgets and functions of a $700+ unit. It was very easy to install in my 1999 F-150 with the help of the Crutchfield master sheet and customer service hotline, (about 45 mins). Although i do recommend professional installation if you are not a familiar with wires because of the backup camera set up and the dvd parking brake grounds. The screen is bright enough in the day time as long as your not parked directly into sun light, but thats common sense. The MP3 doesnt take all that long to load, about 10 seconds to load a full 700mb cd, but i have not tried loading a DVD with a full 2.4gb of music. Overall all i am very pleased with this unit and all my friends thinks its cool to. Will update again after a couple weeks.
