About the Dual XDVD3201

Zak Billmeier
A touchscreen that won't break the bank
If you've got the space in your dash, why not fill it with a big screen? Dual's XDVD3201 DVD receiver plays DVDs while you're parked, then becomes your touchscreen commander when you're on the road.

A touchscreen that won't break the bank
If you've got the space in your dash, why not fill it with a big screen? Dual's XDVD3201 DVD receiver plays DVDs while you're parked, then becomes your touchscreen commander when you're on the road.

Tap your way through all your tunes
iPod® and iPhone® lovers, all you have to do is plug in your player to the XDVD3201's rear USB input, and you can tap your way through your music library as you see plenty of song info on the 6.2" screen. And if you don't have an iPod, no big deal — you can load up an SD™ card or a USB thumb drive with tunes, too.

Ready to grow with you
Are you planning a system? Dual gives you three sets of preamp outputs that'll make it easier to add amps and subs. You'll also find video outputs so you can hook up video screens in the back seat for your passengers to enjoy. A handy rear-camera input lets you connect a backup camera so you can park in tight spaces with confidence. And a handy front-panel audio/video input handles just about any other source that might come down the pike.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Dual stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the XDVD3201, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

    Touchscreen Display

6.2" Touchscreen Display: The Dual XDVD3201 features a fixed 6.2" wide, 16:9 touchscreen display. The screen has a resolution of 800 (H) x 480 (V) x RGB with 1,152,000 total pixels. This unit has touchscreen controls with interactive video graphics, making menu navigation easy.

Note: The unit's touchscreen display is not detachable.

Picture Adjustment: You can adjust the touchscreen display's brightness, contrast, and color.

Video Lockout: For safety reasons, you cannot view a video source on the built-in monitor as long as the vehicle is in motion. In order to display video, the included yellow/blue wire must be hardwired into the vehicle's parking brake light circuit, and the vehicle's parking brake must be engaged and disengaged in a preset sequence.

12/24 Hour Clock: The unit's built-in clock will display 12-hour AM/PM time in USA frequency spacing mode. In European frequency spacing mode, the clock will display 24-hour time. The head unit also display day, month, and year

Hard-Key Controls: In addition to the touchscreen controls, the unit includes frequently used buttons and a rotary dial along the left edge of the screen.

Anti-Theft Code: You may program the unit with a 4 digit security code. Once the unit has been programmed with a security code, the code must be entered to use the unit after it has been disconnected from power for more than 40 seconds.

2-DIN Chassis: The XDVD3201 has a 2-DIN chassis, and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets, or Euro-mounted using the supplied mounting sleeve.

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The Dual XDVD3201 utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The Dual XDVD3201 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the XDVD3201 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the XDVD3201 are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 18 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 60 watts x 4 channels (240 watts total)

5ch/2V Preamp Outputs: The XDVD3201 features front, rear, and subwoofer 2.0-volt preamp outputs. The front & rear speaker preamp outputs are balance/fade adjustable. The subwoofer preamp output is non-fading.

Subwoofer Controls: The unit's subwoofer output has a dedicated low-pass filter (80/120/160Hz) and output level adjustment.

Preset EQ Curves: The Dual DVD Receiver features the following preset EQ curves to customize your music listening. You can choose from User, Flat, Jazz, Pop, Rock, Soft, Vocal, Classic, Dance, Movie, and Hip-Hop.

3-Band EQ: The User Preset EQ setting allows you to adjust the unit's 3-Band EQ.

    • Bass: select from 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, or 200Hz
    • Midrange: select from 500Hz, 1kHz, 1.5kHz, or 2.5kHz
    • Treble: select from 10khz, 12.5kHz, 15kHz, or 17.5kHz

Loudness: The Loudness function enhances the bass & treble frequencies at low volumes.

Source Volume Level: The Source Volume Level control allows a gain adjustment for each audio source (Disc, SD, USB, iPod, Tuner, AV1, and AV2). You can set the source volume level for each mode, depending on the relative volume of each audio source.

    Radio Functions

AM/FM Tuner: The Dual XDVD3201 features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, scan, and preset tuning.

Preset Tuning: The built-in AM/FM tuner allows you to store up to 18 FM station presets and 18 AM station presets. You can tune your presets manually or have the head unit do it automatically.

Preset Scan: You can scan all your stored preset stations and listen to the first 10 seconds of each.

Local: The Local function allows only strong radio stations to be received, blocking stations with weaker signals.

European Tuning: You can switch the tuner between USA or European tuning.

    Disc/SD-Card Playback

Disc Compatibility: The unit has a front-loading disc-slot to make loading your disc easier because there is no panel to slide or fold-down. The Dual XDVD3201 supports playback of DVD-Video, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, and CD-R/RW discs.

Front-Panel SD-card Slot: The Dual XDVD3201 is equipped with front-panel SD-card slot for playback of MP3/WMA music files stored on a SD/SDHC memory card (up to 16GB).

MP3/WMA Playback: The XDVD3201 can play MP3/WMA audio files that have been recorded on CD-R/CD-RW, DVD-R/RW, or DVD+R/RW discs, as well as SD/SDHC memory cards. The files must be recorded in ISO 9660 Level 1 or 2, or Joliet file format. Compatible bit rates are 8-320 kbps for MP3, and 32-192 kbps for WMA. Recorded discs and SD-cards can have up to 2,000 files and 200 folders. The head unit will display MP3 ID3 Tag and WMA Tag information.

Internal Buffer: An internal buffer provides ESP (Electronic Skip Protection) for MP3/WMA discs to virtually eliminate skipping.

JPEG Playback: The XDVD3201 also supports playback JPEG still images recorded onto a CD-R/CD-RW, DVD-R/RW,, or DVD+R/RW discs. JPEG photos can be viewed as thumbnails as well as rotated clockwise/counterclockwise. It is not possible to view JPEG still images while the vehicle is in motion; the vehicle must be in park with the parking brake engaged.

Touchscreen Controls: During DVD playback, you can control certain operations simply by touching an area of the screen. You can touch the bottom left two-thirds of the screen to start the current chapter over, or the bottom right two-thirds of the screen to skip to the next chapter. Touching the top left one-third of the screen allows to display the Main menu; while touching the top center of the screen displays DVD disc information. Pressing the middle of the screen activates the DVD playback control functions.

Play List: The XDVD3201's touchscreen monitor will display five folders, tracks, or image files on a disc or SD-card for easier access to your media files.

    • Search: Fast Forward/Reverse (2/4/8/16x), Previous/Next track

Parental Control: Parental Control allows you to restrict DVD playback according to a predetermined level. You can select a parental control rating from 0-8, which is protected by a 4-digit password.

Off Eject: You can eject a disc even after the head unit has been turned off.

    USB/iPod Connectivity

USB Port: The Dual XDVD3201 features a rear-panel USB (type-A) port and includes a dash-mount iPlug adapter for playback of MP3, WMA, and JPEG files stored on a USB mass storage class device. The files must be recorded in FAT16 or FAT32 file format. Compatible bit rates are 8-320 kbps for MP3, and 32-192 kbps for WMA. Recorded discs can have up to 2,000 files and 200 folders. The head unit will display MP3 ID3 Tag and WMA Tag information. Playback functions include Play List, Play/Pause, Fast Forward/Reverse, Previous/Next Track, and Repeat/Random. Your USB device's rechargeable battery will be recharged while it is connected to the USB port (max. 500mA) of the XDVD3201 and the unit is turned on.

iPod/iPhone Connectivity: The Dual XDVD3201 supports audio/video playback from select Apple iPods and iPhones. The Dual XDVD3201's rear-panel USB (type-A) port and rear-panel composite video input allow you to connect your Apple iPod/iPhone using the Dual's IPV40 iPod cable (070IPV40, sold separately). Video can only be displayed while the vehicle is in park. iPod Control: The Dual head unit allows you to navigate your iPod's music library by Playlist, Artists, Album, Song, Genre, Composer, Podcast, and Audiobook. Your iPod's video library can be searched by Video Playlist, Movie, Music Video, TV Show, Video Podcast, or Rented Movie. You can then search each of these categories using the head unit's touchscreen. The head unit also supports Repeat (track) & Random (album) playback functions of your connected iPod/iPhone.

Note: Your iPod/iPhone's touchscreen or clickwheel will be locked during connection.

iPod/iPhone Display: The XDVD3201 will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information of your stored music, regardless of control mode. The head unit will display Track number, Elapsed playing time, Artist name, Song title, and Album label.
