    Audio & Tuner Section

MOSFET Amplifier: The Dual XR4120 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the XR4120 are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 16 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 60 watts x 4 channels (240 watts total)
Note: The power specifications for the XR4120 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

2V/2Ch Preamp Outputs: The Dual XRA4120 features a pair of 2-volt preamp outputs to connect an external amplifier. The preamp outputs are fading and cannot be set to non-fading.

Equalizer: The Dual digital media receiver features the following preset EQ curves (Flat, Pop, Jazz, Rock, & Off/User) to customize your music listening. The Bass & Treble can be independently adjusted from +/-7 when in Off/User EQ mode. Activating the Loudness feature will enhance the bass and treble frequencies when listening to music at low volumes.

Key Beep: When this function is enabled, every button press will output a beep tone.

AM/FM Tuner: The Dual XR4120 features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, & preset tuning. The built-in AM/FM tuner allows you to store up to 18 FM station presets and 12 AM station presets. You can tune your presets manually or have the head unit do it automatically.

    • Preset Scan: The Preset Scan feature automatically scans your saved preset stations in the selected AM/FM band for five seconds each.
    • Local: The Local function allows only strong radio stations to be received, blocking stations with weaker signals.
    • Mono Mode: Selecting the Mono mode can improve reception in areas with weak FM signals.
Note: You can switch the tuner between USA or European tuning.
    Display & Remote Features

Detachable Face: The Dual digital media receiver features a detachable faceplate to deter theft (no face case is supplied). An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit.

10-Character LCD: The XR4120 features a 10 character LCD with white text & black background for easy viewing during the day or nighttime; plus blue button illumination.

12/24 Hour Clock: The unit's built-in clock will display 12-hour AM/PM time in USA frequency spacing mode. In European frequency spacing mode, the clock will display 24-hour time.

Wireless Remote Control: The XR4120 comes supplied with an 17-button IR remote control which provides wireless control over the Dual digital media receiver.

A bit of both. Due to low power (RMS) output of head unit and speaker quality/or being under or over powered . Consider adding an amplifier and new speakers

I've noticed that when I use an aux cord it doesn't happen, but when I use the radio it pops and is definitely not as clear.

Well, maybe. If you have an installation that is not standard. Often cructhfield has all of the connectors you need that would not require any soldiering. They even have modules that let you keep your steering wheel controls. When your click on a radio there is a link button for all the other stuff you may need. They also seed you a data master sheet to help you remove your old unit and install the new one. This sheet(book) is specific to your car.

What dual car speakers work best with this? I have a 2001 mazda mpv and I have this radio and I haven't installed it yet because I want the speakers to match the radio.
    nelson  Mar 28, 2017
    1 answer
    A
We do not offer Dual's line of car audio speakers. It's not required to use the same manufacturer for the stereo and speakers in your system. To make the most of the stereo's wattage, you'll want speakers with a high sensitivity rating. You can view all of the models we recommend to fit each factory location in your vehicle by using the "Outfit My Car" application on our website: https://www.crutchfield.com/car/carselector.aspx?lp=%2fCar%2foutfitmycar%2fmycar.aspx For additional assistance and personalized recommendations, feel free to contact us directly: https://www.crutchfield.com/support/ContactUs.aspx I hope that helps. Is there a way to stop the color changing in the display to just one color? Thanks in advance.

This Dual XR4120 doesn't actually feature the ability to change the display or button colors; the display remains black/white and the buttons are illuminated with a blue backlight. However, in the owner's manual I see that it's recommended to "Press the RESET button upon initial installation or if abnormal operation occurs. The RESET button is located behind the front panel." If you're having issues with your display, you should try resting the head unit to see if that helps. If that doesn't fix it, you may want to try contacting Dual's support at 866-382-5476.

I know it doesn't play music, not sure about charging. It might play music from a flash drive, but I never tried it.

The usb port is for storage devices. If you plug your iPhone 6 into a pc usb port and it shows a storage device with a standard file system and music arranged in folders, then yes. I use a 32GB usb flash drive with mine and it works just fine.

    seth  Mar 17, 2015

Those answers are not correct, the usb will charge your iphone only when the mode is on USB but here is the kicker...it will not stay on USB mode with just an ordinary usb charge cable connected. I used a kenwood USB+3.5mm jack which on one end it has usb and 3.5 mm jack. Both of those go into the front designated inputs on the receiver. The two wires are joined into 1 on the opposite end which looks like a iphone 4 charger but it passes data and audio. What does that mean to you...iphone charges and you get good sound

I've plugged my phone into the usb port and it said it was charging, however if i remember right it died anyways. Could be a fault with the cord i was using or my radio in particular, but if you have it it's worth a shot. Just make sure you observe where your phones charge level is at. Also i have an android phone and don't know if that'll make a difference or not. Good luck to you.

Yes. It is automatically set to FM1. It has I believe 3 FM slots, FM1,FM2, and FM3. It does AM but sure how many. There is no CD player as that is replaced with a SD card slot, which works with micro SDHC also. A USB port for USB audio and a external 35mm audio jack.

The jack fit right into the original and the wires were all color-coded properly. You will need butt-splices or wire-nuts or electrical tape to splice the wires. I had wire-nuts in the basement, so it was a breeze.

    landon  May 22, 2014

It really depends on your car. The box contains the radio, remote and wires. I found it best to enter in the make, model and year of my car on the home page first. Crutchfield showed which radios were compatible and had pop up windows that let me know what else I needed to make sure I had everything. My factory radio was a double din (the tall kind) and I needed a faceplate surround to be able to use the smaller, single din radio. I also needed a separate part to maintain the chime sounds for the door, lights, etc, and an antenna part. Overall I payed about $130, which was way lower than local places offered.

If ordering from crutch field, they ensure you get everything you need (no up sell). My suggestion is to use the online chat and have the sales advisor send you a link with all the necessary items. For example, if you say you want this item, the will include the wire harness (free or little charge), trim adaptor if needed (usually free), instructions for your vehicle (free), and answer any questions. By the way, for the price, this stereo is fantastic.

Is this stereo blutooth or do I have to plug in an aux cord to be able to play music from my iPhone?
    tayler  Apr 28, 2014

This radio is bottom-of-the-line. This does not mean it is bad. It is great for an old car if you just want to connect your iPod to it. It requires a aux cord-no bluetooth function-no CD player. Make sure you by a quality aux cord from a box store rather than a cheap one. I did this and that cord broke in a day.
    jacob theron  Apr 29, 2014

    william  Apr 28, 2014

No Bluetooth, so yes, aux to play music off your phone. The quality is better through aux than bluetooth anyway, so if you don't mind the cable it's a better option.
