Overview

Our take on the Dual XR4120

If you're just not listening to CDs anymore, Dual's XR4120 digital media receiver gives you a wallet-friendly way to enjoy your music collection on the road. You can listen to your favorite AM/FM stations, plug a thumb drive full of music into the USB port, jack your music player into the front minijack aux input, or fold down the faceplate to insert an SD card. It all sounds great on this Dual receiver, thanks to the healthy output of the built-in MOSFET amplifier.

The detachable faceplate features a 10-character black-on-white display that's easy to read day or night. The included wireless remote adds convenience and control, while a set of rear preamp outputs will come in handy when you decide to expand your system.

Awesome radio. Only wish the USB port would play music from cord or even charge! I knew it wouldn't before I bought it though. Detachable face plate. Works great sounds great

This receiver is very nice for the money. Crutchfield's detailed instructions and included accessories made it relatively easy to install my first radio. Shipping was super fast. I had the radio within 48 hours. I also purchased the PAC-C2R-GM11B Wiring Interface to keep the car's in dash information display.

Pros: Price, Crutchfield Service, ease of install, included features

Cons: Only thing I missed after the fact was having Bluetooth connectivity. I'll be sure to look for a model that includes that for my second car.

It is a great little system, I am still in the process of updating the Truck that this went in as I have the stock speakers still, so I am just waiting on the harness adapters to arrive so I can finish the speaker install, however at the moment the unit does put out good quality sound, wouldn't say its super but this is what I consider an "entry level" unit, I do love that it has the ability for USB and SD cards to be played which has effectively rendered CDs an obsolete technology to me, (partly why I went with a mechless design anyways, also feels a lot lighter weight wise). I have 32GB sd card (does support SDHC). I would say value wise for the most part is good and on par with what I paid for the unit (got it for a lower price point) and it does mostly what I want it to do which is play my music off my SD card with out question. Only "gripe" I have with this unit is that the text keeps scrolling which I do find a bit annoying as I can see it out of the corner of my eye all the time, and that the clock does not have a way to be "always on" so I can have it display the time constantly, I have to hit the DISP button for that, I did call the tech support number for the company as I figure they know the product the best, and they tried there best to help me out to no avail. The second thing I have a gripe with is that I had to set the radio into the euro mode for the 24Hr formatting of the clock other then that its a great unit for the price and works well so far :)

Pros: SD and USB, no CD player to mess with, good price point for the unit

Cons: clock can't be set to display in "always on" state

Honestly, it's amazing for the money. The aux works with my iPhone, but NOT with the USB port. It claims compatibility, but I only get errors (iPhone6+). I'm only comparing this to the stock stereo in my 2000 Dodge Ram Van. I also upgraded the front speakers with a better pair. That said, the sound upgrade is shocking. My wife can't believe how good it sounds.

Pros: Crutchfield has NO competitors. Their customer service is 2nd to none and their instruction manuals are amazing! The install was so easy. Step by step instructions on getting the dash out and how to install everything was a piece of cake. Looks great!

Cons: USB doesn't work with my iPhone. That was the biggest selling point for me and so that is a disappointment.

I have a 2/3 replica Wurlitzer Jukebox. Originally, this box contained a 10 CD player. So what, maybe 80 songs? I was getting tired of listening to them over and over when I had about 880 songs from the 50's and 60's. So Dual radio which, in addition to AM/FM has Aux/USB/SD support. I wish there was a way to add images to this review. It looks quite stunning. The installation was pretty much a piece of cake. I made a face plate with a cutout for the radio mount, bolted it in, hooked the radio up up to a 120 VAC to 12 VDC adapter and I was in business.

Pros: Great generic mounting hardware. Great sound Great versatility

    Cons: None so far

Not sure you can beat this unit for price and performance. Better sound quality than the OEM by a long shot and nice features including the remote. The only negative found so far is the someone long delay when switching input, changing stations, or using an MP4 player through the USB port. Overall great buy!

Pros: Features - USB and Aux inputs; remote

Cons: muted delay when changing stations, inputs or moving from song to song on an auxiliary device.

I specifically got this because I purchased an older car and it didn't have an Aux or USB port so I could only play music through the CD player. I like to play music from my phone while also being able to charge it in the car. I figured out after installing the whole thing that the USB port doesn't allow you to play music OR charge your phone. My question is, why the heck is it there then? Seems like a scam. Unhappy.

Just installed this in my Colorado. It works fine, does what I need it to do. My complaints are for one, it needs a dimmer. It is very bright at night. The area around the volume control is way too bright. My second complaint is the sound quality is off. It has bass and treble control but sounds like it needs a mid control. Maybe it's my small speakers, I don't know.

Pros: cheap, easy to use, can plug my IPod shuffle into it

Cons: brightness of the display distracting, sound quality not quite right. clock doesn't stay on the screen as default. have to press display button to see time but doesn't stay on the screen.

I have it installed in a weekend car I have not driven much. Unit worked fine. Sounds and looks good. I do not listen to the radio so only use the sd card. Will need to buy a clock since the built in clock cannot be displayed in sd/usb mode and only briefly when in radio mode. I would prefer to be able to switch the display to time and not have the scrolling song information. I have not tried this unit at night but may resort to covering the display with tape.

Pros: Fairly easy install.sound and appearance.

Cons: Inability to control the display or turn it off. Constant scrolling information is minor distraction.

I like the concept of this unit. I like background music playing all the time. I have found that currently FM stations have to many commercials & playing CDs gets annoying on a trip cause you have to change disks every half hour or so. I used XM for years. Now by putting music I like on an XD card I can have a whole day of music without commercials, station drop-outs, or tunes I dislike.

Pros: Nice looking, Good sounds, easy to install & use, great price.

Cons: The internal pilot lighting is much to bright for nighttime driving (very distracting). My OEM radio had an automatic system that dimmed the lights when my headlight were on.

This radio is being used to play aux output from my Android, and occasionally radio for weather & traffic reports. Works well! Installation was a snap thanks to Crutchfield's free add-ons, documentation, height adapter, harness adapter, and antenna adapter. Just follow the provided directions. Any future car radio purchases will be from no one else but Crutchfield. Crutchfield's does an awesome job; I would not have realized an antenna adapter was needed, and would have had to wait days for one to be delivered. Cruchfield made it such that I had the whole thing installed in less than an hour, and I did not even need to call their free tech support. Troy. #

Overall this stereo unit is about what I expected for the price. Since I installed this in an older car, I wasn't looking to spend a lot of money. The main feature that I was looking for was the AUX input on the front.

Pros: Easy to install with Crutchfield's excellent instructions and accessories.

Cons: - The blue LEDs are blindingly bright at night. I ended up taking apart the front panel and coloring over the LEDs with a sharpie to dim them a bit. They are still too bright. - The clock only displays temporarily when you press the Display button. I'd much prefer the clock to be visible all the time. - AM receiver seems susceptible to interference and I have trouble tuning into one of the strongest stations in my region

Overall it's a nice little stereo, works great, simple intuitive interface. The remote is a big plus because the buttons are a little small on the stereo itself. Overall I'm very satisfied for the price.

Pros: * Simple to understand and use. * Looks very cool. * MP3, SD Card, and Aux inputs are very nice.

Cons: * Saved radio stations were lost upon battery disconnection. * Clock isn't displayed by default. (And I've found no option to change this.) * Clock isn't displayed when radio is "off".

For a 2002 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport, the radio didn't fit and I had to trim the car's radio panel to make it fit. The radio also didn't line up with the screw holes, but taking the DIN cage off made it work, but it's not exactly a 100% fit. Radio works great and sounds great anyway.

Pros: Great features, great look. A little bright. Very few moving parts other than a USB cover, buttons, and dials. Plays MP3 and MP3 playlists just fine. FM reception in New York City metro area is great. For $54, it's fine.

Cons: Didn't fit my car 100%, a 2002 Subaru. Screws didn't line up. DIdn't need the DIN cage. Car fascia needed a bit of trimming. Front is bright. MP3 song names don't display all the way (I get an error). AM reception is horrible in New York City. If $54 is all you have, it's fine.

I replaced a factory Dodge radio with this unit. The speakers in my truck are the premium Infinity speakers. This unit sounds awesome through those speakers. I haven't used a CD in years, so the fact that it doesn't have one caught my attention. I doubt I'll ever buy another unit that has a CD player or DVD for that matter. The only thing I've found so far that I would change is the location of the SD card slot. It is behind the faceplate. I gave it a 4 for ease of use because the preset buttons could have been a bit larger. And the ding for coolness was due to the display having no color options at all. Still the unit sounds awesome and if your looking for a great sound and don't require a CD player...look no further. The controls on the remote are well laid out and easy to use.

Pros: Great sound Crutchfield made it easy to install with their inclusion of the correct installation parts Again, great sound quality

Cons: I really don't have any unless your looking for very pretty aesthetics. As I said mono-color display

I needed the most inexpensive system that Crutchfield had because I am planning to sell my car in about a year and I could not stand living with the stock radio until then. This Dual Receiver served this purpose very well. Definitely not high end sound but good enough for my 30 minute commute and definitely better than the stock radio. The remote is better than expected so I use it quite often to change station or advance the music because the buttons on the radio are small. The installation to my 2001 Toyota Corolla was super easy. There is no illumination wiring connection which will dim the light during night driving. However, the bright radio lighting at night was not that annoying. Generally, the controls are simple and not complicated...which is a plus. I am happy that the radio reception is decent with very little static to my popular stations. I am using a SD card for my MP3 music and there is no problem whatsoever using this media. However, you have to remove the anti-theft cover plate to insert or remove the SD card. I used the mini aux once but I found that the wiring to my smart phone was too much of a hassle so I ended up using the SD card as my primary music for MP3. For the price that I paid, I definitely can't complain.

Pros: Easy to install, better than stock radio, and very inexpensive. No radio static for most stations. Excellent remote to change radio stations or advance the songs on your SD card.

Cons: A Basic Radio with SD, USB and aux mini input. No dimmer mode for night driving. Small buttons. Basic but acceptable sound quality.

Pros: Good deal on whole kit to replace old radio. Seems to be fairly easy to use and set up. Display bright enough for an old fart to read (some people don't seem to like this but it's good with me.)

I was just replacing a stock radio in a Ford Van, so I wasn't looking for anything special, just something that could attach an Mp3 player or a phone through a work van. I've dealt with Dual stuff before, and have never really been impressed with any aspect of them. I went ahead and got this anyway, because the price was right and because Crutchfield provided all of the accessories I needed, which made it easy for me to open the package and get it in the van between jobs. I was pleasantly surprised that not only was everything I needed (save for the couplers to attach the harness) was included, but that the radio sounded halfway decent. My biggest concern is now I'm going to have to replace the speakers now! Great deal, and I'll be coming back for another order.

Pros: Easy install, great sound for the price with plenty of EQ and processing.

Cons: My only wish is that it had bluetooth. I'd swap the SD card ready for a blue tooth reciever, but give the price, I don't mind hooking up a 1/8" cable.

I bought this for my old 1977 International Scout which is driven on rough roads. A CD player is useless and I simply plug in a USB loaded with hundreds of tunes and hit the road. The first road trip was a thousand mile run into backcountry in New Mexico and I found that the radio receiver also pulls in stations very well.

Pros: Simple remote; easy installation; good reception on the radio; good sound; excellent value for the price.

Cons: The display light is very bright and at night on dark highways the glare is annoying.

Overall very easy to install. I needed this new head unit because the stock unit in my Toyota Matrix didn't have RCA outputs for my amp. This was my first stereo installation so wasn't expecting much, but the sound quality is definitely better and I believe the speakers are louder (stock speakers). The blue lights are a little bright at night but really nothing to worry about. After this I'll probably upgrade my speakers and upgrade the head unit again when I get the money. Overall, for a cheap college student it definitely improved the "Coolness Factor" of my car.

Bought this for my 2002 Ford Ranger to replace the crappy 2 speaker factory radio. I don't use this truck as much as my car so I didn't want to spend much on it. I got this, 2 pairs of speakers, wiring harnesses, and install kit for only $123.00. I wired the harnesses together, and installed the sleeve in the install kit in my house, then basically just had to plug in to factory plug, and snap install kit in to dash and was ready to go. Set it up to my liking and it sounds 1000 times better than the factory unit. Seems easy to use, only complaint is clock does not stay on, you have to push display button to see it, unless I have not figured out how to keep it on yet, but other than that no complaints. Crutchfield supplied wire harnesses make install very easy. Like that you can play music from thumb drive or sd card, don't use cd s so don't need cd player which makes this unit smaller and lighter. This unit does what it's suppose to do for a low price. Also other people have said the LED is too bright or overpowering, but I don't think it is. Like the remote also

Pros: Seems easy to use, remote, sounds good for the price

Cons: Other than the clock not staying on, none

I originally set out to find a cheap analog stereo to replace my OEM Stereo. The OEM sounded terrific but sadly crumped, and trying to repair or find another original stereo was not in the budget. I found this stereo locally and thought "Can't beat that price." So bought it, went home and installed it within 30 mins, and it sounds great! There is a noticeable difference in the sound quality, again, not the best, but does exactly what I wanted it to do, which was to play music. I can put music on an SD Card, connect my iphone via the AUX 3mm phone jack, or from a usb device. I tried each of these options and they all worked, the only thing that did not work was the usb to iphone, the stereo did not recognize the iphone and would not play any music. The other nice thing about this, is that if connected via the AUX headset jack, if you get a call it acts like a handsfree device playing the callers voice through the speakers as long as you keep the phone on the dash, they caller can hear you just fine through the mic of the Iphone. Overall, it was the best money I've spent on an upgrade. If it last's a year it will be worth it. Easy to navigate the EQ options, and fine tune the sound to your liking. The Blue display lights are a cool color but are WAY TOO Bright and you cannot dim this, however some electrical tape cut and shaped to cover the volume knob did help. Hey, its cheap and it sounds better than no stereo!

Pros: Affordable, easy to navigate, accepts SD, USB and 3mm Audio Jack input. Many ways to fine tune that perfect sound, EQ options, bass and treble control, FAD, BAL it is all there. Cool Remote. Built in RCA jacks (for those wanting to hook up an AMP).

Cons: LED TOO Bright and no dimmer option when driving at night, but covering with tape or something helps.

Great price, great sound, and it was easy to install (once I got the right wiring harness). The first harness that shipped was not for my car, so I sent an email and received a confirmation email within a couple of hours that a new one was being shipped!

Pros: Very good price for some really cool features. I reformatted and loaded a 2-gig SD card (now that I only use 16gb in my camera) with one song library, and have used a USB flash drive, too, and they both work really well. Installation was really easy, and there are lots of presets for both FM and AM. Looks good in my dash, too!

Cons: I do miss having a clock display on the dash...I don't see that option anywhere, but it isn't a great loss. No CD-rom on this unit, but after having to dismantle my old one to retrieve CD's that were stuck in it, I like the SD and USB options better anyway. And for the price, these so-called "cons" are no big deal.

This radio is awesome. This was my first aftermarket installation and it was super easy with some YouTube help. The radio has amazing sound quality. I would highly recommend this radio if you're just looking for something really simple, low budget and don't mind missing out on the CD player.

Pros: Good bass, loud option increases volume by double Simple to install

This system is small but size does not matter at all! It can pack an audio punch! The remote is extremely helpful as all of the buttons and gadgets on the stereo can be confusing. The blue lights are also extremely bright when I'm driving at night. I wish they were a little less blinding. It's a great color regardless and the system is relatively simple to use and has both USB and and aux input options. I love how stylish and simple it is and I can't believe the inexpensive price! It sounds like a $300 stereo. Couldn't be happier with it!!

Pros: Sound quality, appearance, aux input, USB outlet, 6 presets for FM radio, remote

Cons: Extremely Bright blue illumination lights, lots of buttons/options that make the system a little confusing/overwheling

This radio is an excellent choice for those who are looking to upgrade an older dash radio or kit. Detachable face and remote are great features and the sound quality is really good. Price won't break your burn a whole in your pocket either.

Pros: $......nice layout. Easy to use.

Cons: Does not play CD'S but who uses them these days?

The Dual XR4120: a very functional radio, it's simple to install, cheap on the wallet, well-rounded, easy to access, and a bang for your buck. The radio's neat lighting makes an easy-to-find and easy-to-use button system. The only problem I find, is the slow scanning when trying to get to a station. The quality of the radio is really good for what you pay for. It's sound quality is decent, but that is only because of the speakers I'm using with it. The whole installation didn't take roughly thirty minutes. Crutchfield provided the essentials for the installation, which was more than convenient. They provided a wiring harness, instructions on installations, a PDF file, and the mounting kit.

Pros: Cheap. You pay for the quality, which is actually decent. Simple installation. Convenient with the remote. The lights give a nice look and a nice visibility. Came from Crutchfield.

    Cons: The radio scanning.

I never have bought or worked with audio systems before in cars. I have a 2010 Crown Vic and I wanted to get an auxiliary cord ability so I could listen to my music. I bought this and it fit perfectly and sounds great. The install was very easy, a bit time consuming, but well worth it. I do have have some buzzing sounds with it but I bought a ground loop isolator and that got rid of the noise that comes about when the car or phone/music device isn't grounded. Besides that I can't complain. It was exactly what I was expecting. Don't forget to get additional adapters and kits so that it will fit in your specific car. The Crutchfield website does a great job of finding the components that you need. Also get some connectors so that you can connect the adapter and the receiver wires. Follow the instructions!

Pros: Cheap, fits in 2010 Crown Victoria, face-plate is removable, sleek design, easy to use, security light behind face plate, SD, USB and AUX connectors along with 24 FM and 16 AM presets.

Cons: Brightness of glow cannot be dimmed.
