When Fujifilm introduced their first "X" series interchangeable-lens camera, they took the bold step of introducing it in tandem with three excellent "prime" (fixed focal length) lenses. And while pros and enthusiasts everywhere cheered for such excellent optical quality, many stood by the sidelines waiting for Fujifilm's promised "kit" zoom lens for this popular and growing family of cameras. Now the wait is over.
This 18-55mm, f/2.8-4 zoom lens will probably be your everyday go-to choice when you're not sure what your next photo opportunity will bring. With a 35mm equivalent of 27.4-83.8mm, it will take you from the ability to span the entire swimming pool, to a small grouping of playing children by the slide, without the need for a lot of walking. Plus, with an aperture as large as f/2.8 on the wide angle end, you can shoot in less light and get nice isolation on close-up subjects.

Sharp as a tack ... not your average kit lens. This one is really really good!
Pros: Sharp, fast focus, great controls
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
About November 2nd I purchased the Fuji X-Pro1 and the 35mm lens. The images produced by the Fuji product were superb even when compared to My Canon eos systems.
I soon after purchased the 18 mm fixed and the 60mm fixed lens. Both were superb as well
NOW to the 18mm - 55mm zoom. It to is a great lens. It is sharp and quick and perfect for some of the stage work I do as a regular bases. The lens rivals the Canon 70mm - 200mm (L) f2.8 IS lens I use with my bigger cameras.
I am not one for flowery language but you could not want a better lens and the price is very affordable.
Pros: When one has to change focal lengths rapidly and still get wonderfully sharp images this is the lens. This is the lens even if one does not have that kind of work to do. It is very well made and feels like quality through and through. It will last a lifetime.

Overview: The Fujinon XF18-55 F2.8-4 R LM OIS is a standard zoom lens with a maximum aperture of f/2.8. It has a Fujifilm X-mount, and is designed exclusively for Fujifilm X-mount cameras, such as the X-E1 and X-Pro1. Its 18-55mm focal length is equivalent to 27-84mm in 35mm photography. The XF18-55 F2.8-4 R LM OIS can be used for a variety of scenes.
Firmware Update Required: The X-E1 and X-Pro 1 cameras must go through a firmware update before the lens can be used. The updated firmware for both cameras is included with the lens on an SD memory card. The process takes only about 90 seconds, and the camera's battery should be fully charged before you begin.
Optics: The XF18-55 F2.8-4 R LM OIS has 14 elements in 10 groups, including 3 aspherical and 1 extra low dispersion elements. The lens has a 58mm filter thread for adding screw-on filters.
Lens Hood: The XF18-55 F2.8-4 R LM OIS comes with a lens hood to reduce glare and to protect the front element. When attached, the lens hood adds almost 1-7/16" to the overall length of the lens.
Aperture Control: Using the Aperture Mode switch on the barrel of the lens, you can switch between auto and manual aperture control. When switched to manual aperture control, you can rotate the aperture ring for smaller or wider aperture openings.
Optical Image Stabilization (OIS): The lens has built-in Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) to allow you to shoot in challenging situations without the worry of camera shake. The OIS, when activated, equates to an exposure setting approximately four stops faster. The OIS can be turned on or off via the switch on the barrel of the lens.
