A gem of a lens

Fast, tack-sharp, and built like a fine Swiss watch, this 23mm Fujinon lens provides superior picture quality with your compatible Fujifilm cameras. You'll get rich, high-contrast images under all kinds of lighting conditions, even shooting wide-open at f/1.4. Its moderate wide-angle capability makes it ideal for wedding photography and interiors, as well as recording vibrant landscapes or just great all-around shooting. The lens's large maximum aperture lets you capture photos with sharply focused subjects against a meltingly smooth blurred background. That large aperture also allows faster shutter speeds to "freeze" moving subjects — perfect for shooting crystal-clear photos indoors without a flash.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

An excellent lens - impressive that it is even sharper in the center than the 18-55 kit lens. Autofocus is noisier though, and a bit slower than the kit. Solidly built, but not too big. Great brightness, sharpness, and bokeh at 1.4

Pros: bright sharp

Cons: slight lag and some noise with AF

Sharp, but not the sharpest.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Having been a Canon user, my go-to lens for this focal length has been the Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art series. I loved that lens. Now that I've sold all of my Canon gear to move on to the Fuji X system, I'm regretful, but satisfied, by the fact that there aren't that many options for X-mount yet this lens is a formidable substitute.

Pros: Sharp (especially at f/4 and f/5.6), but corner performance could be better wide open.

Cons: As mentioned previously, corner performance could be better and heavy vignetting, although easily correctable in post, is an issue at f/1.4 and f/2.

Overview: The Fujinon XF23 F1.4R is a wide angle prime lens. It has a Fujifilm X-mount, and is designed exclusively for Fujifilm X-mount digital cameras, such as the X-E1, X-Pro1, and the new X-T1. Its 23mm focal length is equivalent to 35mm in 35mm photography. The XF23 F1.4R lens can be used for a wide variety of portraits, landscapes, and architectural photos. The lens comes with front and rear lens caps and a soft wrapping cloth.

Optics: The XF23 F1.4R has 11 elements in 8 groups, including 1 aspherical element. The lens has a 62mm filter thread for adding screw-on filters.

Lens Hood: The lens comes with a bayonet-type lens hood to reduce glare and to protect the front element. When attached, the lens hood adds almost 2" to the overall length of the lens.

Focus Mode: The XF23 F1.4 R has a focus ring that slides forward or backward to set the focus mode. When the focus ring is in the forward position, it is in Autofocus mode and cannot be rotated. Sliding the focus ring backward places the lens in Manual focus mode, allowing you to rotate the ring to focus on your subject.

Depth-of-Field Indicator: The lens has a Depth-of-Field Indicator on the barrel. The scale runs from 1' to infinity, indicating the approximate distance in front of and behind the focus point that appears to be in focus. The scale has marks at 1', 2.5', 8', and infinity, as well as 0.28m, 0.5m, 1m, and 5m.
