Features

2.7" LCD Monitor: The Fujifilm FinePix Z70 is equipped with a 2.7" LCD monitor with 230,000 pixels. Frame coverage is approximately 96% vertically and horizontally.

5x Zoom Lens: The Z70 is equipped with an f/4.0-4.8 Fujinon lens with a 5x optical zoom. With the 4x digital zoom activated, the maximum total zoom is 20x.

Image Sensor: The FinePix Z70 features a 1/2.33-inch, square-pixel CCD image sensor with 12-million effective pixels.

Recording Media: Still images and movies can be recorded onto optional SD or SDHC memory cards. The Z70 also has a built-in flash memory of approximately 13 MB to allow you to store a few more images in case your memory card is full.

Still Image Quality: The FinePix Z70 records still images in JPEG format in 4:3, 16:9, and 3:2 aspect ratios. You can also choose how much image files are compressed by selecting Fine (low compression) for higher image quality or Normal (high compression) to increase the number of pictures that can be stored. Images can be shot at the following resolutions:

  • 4:3 Aspect Ratio:
    • 4000 x 3000 (12M)
    • 2816 x 2112 (6M)
    • 2048 x 1536 (3M)
    • 1600 x 1200 (2M)
    • 640 x 480 (0.3M)
  • 3:2 Aspect Ratio:
    • 3984 x 2656 (10M)
  • 16:9 Aspect Ratio:
    • 4000 x 2248 (9M)
    • 1920 x 1080 (2M)

HD/SD Movies: The Z70 can record high definition (16:9) and standard definition (4:3) movies are recorded in Motion JPEG (AVI) with mono audio. Individual movies cannot exceed 10 minutes (HD) or 15 minutes (SD), regardless of the capacity of the memory card. The following options are available:

  • HD 1280: 1280 x 720, 30 fps
  • SD 640: 640 x 480, 30 fps
  • SD 320: 320 x 240, 30 fps

Shooting Modes: You can set the camera to suit your level and style of photography. The shooting mode choices include:

  • Scene Recognition: By simply pointing the camera at the subject, the camera automatically analyses and selects the most appropriate setting using scene recognition. Intelligent Face Detection is turned on automatically. Settings include Portrait, Landscape, Night, Macro, Backlit Portrait, and Night Portrait.
  • Auto: A point and shoot mode recommended for first time users of digital cameras.
  • Program AE: This mode gives you complete control of shooting settings, including exposure compensation, white balance, and AF mode.
  • Natural & Flash: To help ensure good results, the camera takes two shots: one without the flash to preserve natural lighting, followed immediately by a second shot with the flash.
  • Natural Light: Lets you capture natural light indoors, under low light, or where the flash cannot be used. The flash is turned off and the sensitivity is raised to reduce blur.
  • Scene Position: You can select a scene suited to the subject or shooting conditions, and store it for quick access. Available scenes include: Portrait, Portrait Enhancer, Landscape, Sport, Night, Night (Tripod), Sunset, Snow, Beach, Party, Flower, Text, and Auction Mode.
  • Movies: Lets you record short HD or SD movies with sound. Recording will stop automatically when a movie file becomes approximately 2 GB or 15 minutes in length. When set to Successive Movie mode, you can join together a series of short movies into one movie, up to 60 seconds long.

Intelligent Face Detection: When Face Detection is On, the camera automatically detects human faces anywhere in the frame and sets the focus and exposure for shots that emphasize portrait subjects. This mode will prevent the camera from focusing on the background when taking group portraits or self portraits. Intelligent Face Detection also offers a red-eye removal option for removing the red-eye effects caused by the flash.

Digital Image Stabilization: When shooting in a poorly lit area, any degree of camera shake can cause blurry pictures. In this case, Digital Image Stabilization can reduce the effect of camera shake and moving-subject blur.

ISO Sensitivity: You can manually set the camera's sensitivity to ISO 100, 200, 400, 800, or 1600. The Auto settings will adjust the sensitivity settings according to the shooting conditions. The higher the sensitivity setting, the better the camera is at reducing blur in poor lighting conditions, however, high settings can result in more noise in the recorded images.

White Balance: White balance is used to preserve natural colors under different types of lighting. You can select Auto, Direct Sunlight, Shade, "Daylight" fluorescent lamps, "Warm White" fluorescent lamps, "Cool White" fluorescent lamps, and Incandescent light.

Auto Exposure: The Finepix Z70 uses programmed auto-exposure--the camera automatically sets the aperture and shutter speed according to the shooting conditions. The shutter speed can range from 4 seconds to 1/2000. The aperture can range from F4.0 to F6.7 in wide angle and F4.8 to F8.0 in telephoto.

Exposure Compensation: You can alter the exposure from the value suggested by the camera, making pictures brighter or darker. You can adjust the exposure a total of 13 steps from -2.0 to +2.0 EV in 1/3 EV steps. Exposure compensation is available in the Program AE and Auction shooting mode only.

Continuous Shooting: You can capture motion in a series of pictures using the Continuous Shooting mode. The camera takes up to three pictures while the shutter button is pressed at a rate of up to 1 frame per second. Focus and exposure are determined by the first frame.

Self-timer: The camera gives you the choice of a standard 10-second or 2-second self timer. The camera also offers a "Couple Timer", allowing you to take a self-portrait with a friend, and a "Group Timer" for group portraits.

Auto Focus: In most cases, the Z70 uses contrast-detection TTL (through the lens) Auto Focusing. The camera will automatically focuses on the subject in the center of the frame when the shutter button is pressed halfway. The AF area can be set to Center (camera focuses on the subject in the center of the monitor) or Tracking (camera locks focus onto the subject and tracks the subject as it moves through the frame.

Focus Range: The camera's focus range is approximately 2' to infinity (wide angle) and 3.2' to infinity (telephoto). In the Macro mode, the focus range is approximately 3.1" to 2'-7" (wide angle) and 2' to 9'-7" (telephoto).

Flash Modes: The FinePix Z70 has a built-in flash with an effective range of 2'-4" to 10'-1" (wide angle), 2'-4" to 8'-9" (telephoto), and 1' to 2'-7" (macro). Red-eye removal minimizes the "red-eye" effect, and is available for each flash mode. You can choose from the following flash modes:

  • Auto: flash fires automatically as required by the shooting conditions
  • Forced Flash: flash will fire whenever a picture is taken
  • Slow Synchro: auto flash combined with slow shutter speeds (tripod recommended)
  • Flash Off: You can close the pop-up flash when flash photography is prohibited, or to capture natural lighting under dim light.

Light Metering: The Z70 uses 256-segment, TTL (through-the-lens) metering, where the camera automatically assesses the scene and selects the optimum exposure.

Upload to YouTube/Facebook: You can select still images and movies to be uploaded to YouTube or Facebook. After marking the images and movies for uploading, you can upload them using the MyFinePix Studio software (compatible with Windows computers only), included with the camera.

FinePix Color: You can enhance contrast and color saturation, or take pictures in black and white or sepia. The FinePix Color function lets you select the following:

  • F-Standard: standard contrast and saturation; recommended in most situations
  • F-Chrome: vivid contrast and color saturation; select for vivid shots of flowers or enhanced greens and blues in landscapes. Available only in selected shooting modes.
  • F-B&W: takes pictures in black & white
  • F-Sepia: takes pictures in sepia

Image Search: The Image Search function lets you search pictures by the following criteria:

  • Date: Viewing images by date makes it easy to locate specific events or occasions.
  • Face: Portraits can be selected based on composition: groups, couples, or solo portraits.
  • Scene: Pictures shot in Auto or SR Auto modes can be replayed according to the type of scene: portrait, landscape, night scene, or macro.
  • Type: You can easily search your pictures according to the type of photos: still photos, edited images, or movie footage.
  • Upload Mark: Find all images uploaded to either Facebook or YouTube.

Viewing Images: Images can be played back one-at-a-time or in a variety of multi-frame views. Multi-frame options include a 5-frame cascading display (two previous and two following frames cascaded behind the highlighted image), a side-by-side two-frame display (with smaller thumbnails of the previous and next frames, 9-image grid (3 x 3) and a 100-image grid (10 x 10) of micro-thumbnails. In the 9- and 100-image grid views, the highlighted image is slightly enlarged.

Editing Images: You can process still images for posting to a blog. The editing menu options include: Crop, Aspect Ratio, Brightness, Contrast, Color, Sepia, and Face Mosaic.

Voice Memo: A voice memo of up to 30 seconds can be added to a still image. Memos are recorded as PCM-format WAV files with a maximum size of about 480 KB. During playback, voice memos can be paused, if desired.

Slide Show: You can view pictures in an automated slide show. You can select normal playback or with a wipe, slide-in, or fade-in transition. Several pictures of your choosing, or randomly, can be displayed at once. You can also add pre-recorded background music to your slide show.

Printing Pictures: Using DPOF (Digital Print Order Form), you can designate which images to print, and whether to print them with or without date. Pictures can be printed as followed:

  • Printer or Photo Lab: plug the camera into a Pictbridge-compatible printer, insert the memory card into a compatible printer, or take the memory card to a digital photo lab
  • Transferring to Computer: transfer the images to a computer before printing them

Power Requirements: The FinePix Z70 is powered by the supplied NP-45A Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery. A fully-charged NP-45A is good for approximately 165 shots. The supplied BC-45B battery charger will charge an NP-45A battery in about 110 minutes.

Auto Power Off Function: When the camera is operated on battery power, the Auto Power Off function will automatically turn off the camera to reduce the drain on the batteries if no operations are performed for 2 minutes or 5 minutes, as set in the menu. Regardless of the option selected, the camera will not automatically turn off when connected to a printer or computer, or when a slide show is in progress.

Inputs and Outputs Notes

This one output allows you to download your photos to your computer via USB or view them on a TV with the optional A/V cable. With the optional HDP-L1 HD Player, still pictures and movies on the SD card can be viewed on an HDTV.
