About the Accele RVC1150T

Buck Pomerantz

A camera that looks like it came with your car

Accele's RVC1150T backup camera can help you back in or out of parking spaces, day or night. This tiny, metal-cased camera mounts "OEM-style" — once you drill a mounting hole and snap it into position, it'll look like it came with your car from the factory. The sensitive 0.2 lux camera picks up clear images, even in low-light conditions. Accele includes the hole saw drill bit, along with a 16-foot RCA video cable that connects to your video screen up front.

Plenty of viewing options

You can mount the RVC1150T in a license plate recess and get a wide-angle view of what's behind your vehicle. You can configure the RVC1150T to show guide lines in the backup display, so you can better judge distances while backing into a parking space. Or, you can mount this versatile camera high on a roof line or tailgate handle pointing straight down, to see what's directly behind your vehicle's rear bumper and wheels, so you won't run over anything. You pick the viewing mode for your application by re-configuring a wire in the camera harness.

Installing this camera yourself? Here's what you should know.

What does it do? Unless otherwise noted, a backup camera is only intended for use backing up your vehicle. (If you require a front-view or constant rear-view camera, check for that capability.)

What tools and supplies will I need? A panel tool, a wire cutter/stripper, a soldering iron, and a rosin-core solder with heat shrink tubing are recommended, along with whatever tools are needed to remove the radio from the dash.

How much wiring is required? Wiring instructions vary from camera to camera. Some cameras have power wiring that can only be connected near the radio. Others let you power the camera at compatible reverse lights. In all cases, the camera must be wired for power and ground, the camera's video output must be connected to the radio/monitor, and the radio/monitor must be connected to a reverse trigger in your vehicle. Some radio replacement interfaces supply a reverse trigger wire for the radio -- using that wire to power your camera will damage the interface.

Will the included video cable be long enough? You'll need to route the camera's video cable from its mounting location outside your vehicle into your vehicle's cabin and all the way to the screen in the dash. This often requires drilling a small hole in your vehicle or filing some metal and or plastic. You'll also need to estimate the length of cable needed to run from the camera to the dash, which will not be a straight shot. Each camera's cable length is listed.

Wide Viewing Angle/Low Lux: The RVC1150T's multi-purpose camera offers a 165° vertical and horizontal viewing angle providing an excellent field of vision behind you in your vehicle. The multi-purpose camera provides minimum illumination of 0.2 lux.

Note: The parking assistance lines are turned off by default. To turn on the parking assistance lines, you must cut the White wire loop within the camera's attached cable.

Mounting Options: The RVC1150T's integrated mounting bracket allows you to flush-mount this multi-purpose camera to your vehicle. Once the camera is mounted, it is not adjustable. The camera can be mounted to the underside of your vehicle's rear bumper or other horizontal surface for a rear view. The camera will need to be mounted with the lens facing downward on the rear of your vehicle to keep an eye your tow-hitch. A 23.5mm hole saw is included to drill out a hole for the integrated mounting bracket.

  • A Blue wire loop within the camera's attached cable can be cut to change the image from Normal (uncut) to a Mirror image.

Connections: The multi-purpose camera features an attached 6' power/video cable terminated by a proprietary connector. This cable plugs into the included 22' power/video cable which features a composite video connector and power/ground wires on the other end. The composite video connector plugs into your in-dash head unit's composite video-camera input. The power/ground wires need be connected to your vehicle's 12-volt electrical system. A 15" adapter cable (small 4-pin to large 4-pin) lets you connect the camera to an optional monitor (sold separately) that uses a proprietary large 4-pin connector.

This camera is not designed to tie into stock working in a 2020 Ram pickup. We sometimes do have cameras that can work with stock radios and may have one that can use existing wiring. I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to check current inventory for your version of the pickup

When it comes to replacement, that depends on the size of your hole. This is a specific diameter and the hole size Mitch match it.

Unfortunately I do not know. I purchased this for a Hyundai. It did seem to fit well but I will let you know that the parking lines only seem to work well if you are using a dash receiver of the same brand.

i would guess .. if your radio has a jack that fits the plug on the wire on this camera it will probably work you will haveto go to the setup menu and the av in section on your radio to set it up and you will have to cut certain wires on the camera harness to control things like right side up or grid lines ect call chrutchfield for more info

How wide is the installation hole? I drilled a 22.5 mm hole for a Crux camera that I don't like and curious if this will fit it the same hole or if it's too big or small.

According to the description for the Accele RVC1150T on the Crutchfield site, it comes with a 23.5 mm hole saw drill bit. So you would just need to open the hole 1mm more for it to fit.

my 2002 f150 xl has an opening to the left of the license plate, is this for a backup camera, and if so, would this one fit?

A 23.5mm (0.925") hole saw is included with the Accele camera to drill out a hole for the integrated mounting bracket. You would want to measure the opening on your F-150 to determine if this would fit correctly. I hope that helps. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=159

I have a 08 Chevy Avalanche and I'm looking to mount this camera in the moulding under the tailgate handle. The moulding is at appropriately a 45° angle with the ground. Will this still work for viewing angle and grid lines or will it be looking to high up from ground level?

I mounted mine is the tailgate about 2 inches under my tailgate handle. Works great. 2003 Ford F-150
leigh  Aug 02, 2020

I used this camera to hang from under the bumper of an FJ Cruiser. It was a flush mount install with a surface perpendicular to the ground. The effect is that it's not quite high enough, but I can still see what's going on behind the vehicle. There are no grid lines in the display, but that might be a function of the display. This camera only allows for a flush mount, so the 45-degree angle will point the camera too high I believe. Good luck.

The camera will always display the line if it is set to do so what needs to be done is line up the lines with the dimention of of your car and the distance of objects behind your car
damon  Oct 05, 2015

When installing the camera most likely the first time you power it on the image will be upside down and no grid lines will be visible. What I had to do was contact Crutchfield support after I installed the camera you need to cut two wires one to flip the image right side up and other to add the grid lines. I cannot remember the two wires but this is a common question and Crutchfield support had me up and running a few minutes by telling me what wires to cut.

Q
There are two different cameras, the RVC1150T and the RVC1150. Crutchfield sells the RVC1150T which is top mounted looking down, and the RVC1150 model points "rearward". Since crutchfield only sells the RVC1150T, which is meant to be mounted from the top looking down, could I still use this camera on my Altima and somehow rotate the image? I'll be mounting this on a horizontal surface (where the trunk release button is).

I mounted the camera in the rear bumper of my 05 mustangs looking down. I can see from just behind the rear bumper up to above the horizon with the car level. You can see higher with the rear view mirror and the camera takes care of what is not in the mirror plus more area. As you plan to mount it higher than mine is should let you see what is behind that you don't want to back over. If you can see above the bumper of the car behind you that most of what you want. Remember you rear view mirror will still be available. I hope this helps. I believe that if you turn the camera you will have to turn your monitor to keep your image right side up.

Thanks Ryan, but I cannot get to the camera since it is installed already. But I had access to the black cord that runs up to the radio. I spliced it open and it has a red, green, yellow, white, and black wire in it. Would you happen to know which one to cut? Thanks!!!

Q
Any F-150 Owners care to share were they mounted this Camera. If it was in the Tailgate handle does it show the bumper and trailer hitch, or does it need to be shimmed to show the bumper?
chris  Jul 17, 2014
4 answers
A
Good question Chris. I have a 2007 F-150 Crew Cab and I did mount it in the Tailgate latch. It does NOT show the bumper or trailer hitch; however I came up with a simple solution. If mounted in the lower left hand corner of the tailgate latch (the only spot you can mount on the latch), it will show the ground approximately 8 inches behind your bumper. I find it looked best as well as looking professional and factory made at that location. I came up with two solutions to the problem. 1) Shim it like you discussed; however I just didn't like the way it looked having been shimmed out so far. OR 2) Take a few zip ties/wire/string/etc. and make a loop, then hook one end on the post that the latch catches on, and the other to the tailgate catch. This allows the tailgate to open a few inches and look right at the bumper and hitch. I don't tow trailers every day, so this was the best option for me. If you do tow trailers on a daily basis and don't want to get out of the truck to open the tailgate a few inches, then shimming would be the way to go. Also, the way mine worked out, the edges of the camera viewing area are in line with the sides of my truck. I just know that when I am backing up, the bottom of the camera screen is approx. 8 inches away from my bumper. It works great for me on my 7 inch pioneer screen. I hope this helps, let me know if I can help you any more.

I have an F-150 and a Suburban. I mounted the camera in my suburban at about the same level as the Ford logo on my truck (they park side by side) Tailgate contour is similar between the two at that point. I can see the bumper and hitch when backing. I also clipped the wires to turn on the grid which makes lining up the hitch a breeze. Its a round about answer but I don't think you will need shims I didn't use any on the Suburban.

I have a 2008 dodge ram and i put it right below the tail gate handle cas on mine there s no way to out it right at the handle like on the newer trucks that already come with the camera from factory, With this camara u can change the angles so u should see the bumper and the hitch, i like it

Q
Are there cables to connect to the reverse trigger of the monitor and the backup up lights so that its only powered when backing and automatically triggers the monitor?
radlaw  May 19, 2014
15 answers
A
You will need to buy additional wire for the trigger and to connect into your reverse light... I found speaker wire was easier since the wire is already connected and u have to run two wires... One that connects to the reverse light then it runs up to ur headunit trigger... Then a wire running from the ACC of the headunit back to the camera for power... The RCA plug is attached to the camera and u run those up to ur headunit with ur trigger and power cable

I haven't installed my camera yet, but there is a power, ground, and signal lead. You would need to only have power to the camera while you were backing up, Simply find the reverse lamp wire and use that for power to the camera so it's not always on. HOwever, I'm going by memory so I'm not 100% sure.

The camera plugged into the back of my unit with the provided cable. Automatically displays when the vehicle s placed in reverse (powered off of back up lights circuit).
james  May 20, 2014
A
When I installed mine I powered the camera off of the wire to the backup light that way the camera is only "live" when the vehicle is in reverse. The radio wiring harness will be wired into the vehicle in such a way as to tell the radio that the vehicle is in reverse and it will open the view up to the camera. One other helpful hint with this camera is that if your image is upside down you may need to clip one of the camera feed wires, also if you want a grid on the display you will have to cut a second wire. Crutchfield support can tell you which ones or a web search will tell you.
dorothy  May 20, 2014
A
No. The camera has 3 cables. Positive power, negative power, and video feed. In my situation, the head unit controls the camera operation. My radio had a wire to attach to the backup lights. When the car is put into reverse, the radio switches to the camera aux video feed. I spliced the camera power into my radio power cable so that the camera power is only on when the radio is on. In short, the radio controls what is seen on it, power is controlled by the power source that you choose to splice into.
phillip  May 20, 2014
A
There is a positive and negative for the camera, You can use the 12v power of the the reverse light to signal the camera to come on, I did this. There's 2 other little wires on the camera (blue and white) and the camera comes with instructions on which one to cut if you want to invert the camera and to add the back up lines. Hope this helps
kristopher  May 20, 2014
A
Yes the camera will only come on when the reverse is triggered, after that it turns off
ricardo  May 20, 2014
A
Should be a red wire on camera cable both ends. You can hook the wire on the camera end to your reverse signal then just plug the connector into your radio. Depending on your radio you might need a seperate harness to wire in so radio can see reverse signal.
ryan  May 20, 2014
A
There is a short cable that hooks to your backup light and ground and a long cable that hooks to the video input. With my monitor this works very well and the rear view displays as soon as I put it in reverse and goes away when I shift out. The camera words very well. You can have it display with backup guides line or with out. The instructions for changing guide line preference is a little confusing but I worked it out. I am pleased with my unit which has given me no problems so far.
roderick  May 20, 2014
A
It connects to the revers light to get power.
kevin  May 19, 2014
A
The camera has an integral power and video cable for 3 feet. then it is broken into two cables. One is for power and one for video. I would see no reason that you could not splice the power cable to the rear back up lights power lead. The monitor (in the dash) is triggered by the reverse switch in the cars wiring bundle. I am not sure if this is the same high current line that actually lights the reverse lamps. These might be two different systems. one to tell the monitor that the car is in reverse (low current trigger signal) and one to power the camera (high current 12Vdc source).
