Thin rear-view camera for your license plate

The safety of those behind your vehicle depends on you having a good view when you're backing up — especially when something's too small to be seen with your regular mirrors. Accele's RVCLPMB rear-view camera mounts on the top or bottom of your license plate to make sure you can get the full picture, from the best angle. You can even swivel the little camera in its housing for a better shot.

The sleek water-resistant metal case almost disappears on your license plate frame, adding a cool stealthiness to the design. The CCD-based color camera shows a clear image even under extreme low-light conditions.

Product Highlights:

  • rear-view license plate camera
  • black cast metal case
  • mounts in top or bottom position
  • camera swivels for best vertical view
  • 0.1 lux CCD-based camera sees clearly, even in low-light conditions
  • 170-degree wide viewing angle
  • 23' RCA video cable included
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Camera does as it should

Written by: Jking from Pendergrass, GA on February 10, 2016

Camera works like it should. Seems to be made to last. No issues after 2 months of use.

Pros: Easy install. Picture looks good with my Kenwood unit.

Cons: Wished the camera tucked beside the tail gate handle instead of mounting on the tag (looks bulky).

Easy to install, good picture - just works.

Pros: Easy to install, good picture, 'range finder' lines on display (can be disabled by clipping a wire that is clearly labeled).

Cons: No cons. This thing just works.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

There is very little instructions had to use Crutchfield chats to figure it out. For this reason I am giving it a lower review. It seems to function well and video looks good.

Pros: Solid camera, like the grid lines built in. Sees well in dark.

Cons: Poor instructions

Installed this unit and the Monitor Accele LCDP43LW with it. Took me about 12 hours in a Toyota Venza. You better know what your doing removing panels and hooking up wiring for these units. Works great, wife loves it, and it was for Christmas for her!

Pros: Easy to use and adjust. Great view for the rear of the vehicle.

Cons: Allow yourself lots of time to do this install.

Pros: Works as expected. Easy to install. Picture is clear.

This is a great camera and the warning bars are with a flashing STOP in the red area. On the back of my F 150 it gets a little dirty so I put window polish on the lens. This help with keep grim and condensation from fuzzing up the view.

Pros: Great for what I need, better then the Peak back up system.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a... decent camera for the price. It's way too bulky though in my opinion, but does seem very solid (all metal housing). Covers up my registration sticker. The instructions sucked. When there are numerous misspellings on the packaging, it kind of gets me worried about the quality of the product. It's a simple product that you can figure out everything with trial and error. Picture quality is... meh.

Pros: Solid metal construction. Simplistic design.

Cons: Picture quality is meh. Instructions sucked. The limited instructions included on the packaging contains multiple misspellings. Way too bulky.

very helpful but grainy.

Written by: Larry A from Virginia on September 18, 2015

The camera was easy to install. The picture is grainy . It's does work at night and is a great help to hook up my rear hitch trailer. No more arguing with the wife. Had to mount it on the tailgate because I couldn't see the hitch when mounted at the license plate.

Pros: Nice long cord and the distance lines.

Cons: Grainy picture, has to be mounted one side up so the bracket has only one notch cut in it for the cord.

Better than expected

Written by: LeeA from Texas on August 16, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was included for free, with the purchase of a Kenwood head unit, so I wasn't expecting it to be TOO nice. I'm impressed so far, the picture is better than expected, and in color. The added wire, built into the RCA plug connecting to the head unit, is a very convenient way to give the head unit a signal - I connected that wire and the power wire for the unit to the reverse lights. The only thing I don't like is that it covers up too much of the top of license plate. I vertically elongated the plate's mounting holes, allowing the plate to drop down some, so that the state lettering at the top of the plate is not totally obscured.

Pros: - FREE (with some head units, at this time) - Color picture - Picture quality - Nice broad view from the camera - Easy to wire

Cons: - obscures top of license plate

Install is not awesome

Written by: Jereme from Oregon on July 26, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The camera worked great until I needed to permanently install the unit. During pre-install checks it worked great, but when I needed to install the camera the plugs were really bulky so I clipped the wires and soldered/heat shrinked the connections to slip them through a much smaller hole in the tailgate of my 2001 Land Cruiser. It never worked again. Tech support could not tell me why so now I have a $80 worthless camera. BTW - I have over 20 years of experience soldering and repairing electronics. I should have just returned the unit when I saw the installation issue, but I always try to make stuff work... my bad.

Pros: good picture

Cons: Need a giant hole in your car to fit the plugs. Do not clip the wire and reconnect as it will damage the product.

Good Product - Poor Documentation

Written by: Russ B from Illinois on June 30, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Quality product with poor documentation. It took a couple of calls to Crutchfield's excellent tech-help-line to get me comfortable enough to dive in, but in the end the product worked very well. To be fair, the documentation provided was not from Crutchfield, and maybe they're working on creating some of their own, which would resolve all questions.

Pros: It worked right away.

Cons: A little pricey compared to other similar products - but they don't come with Crutchfiled's excellent support!

Installed on 1998 GMC Sierra Z71 pickup. Camera works as expected and has a good picture. Well satisfied. Connected to a Jensen VX7012.

Pros: Installs easily on license plate and operates like it should.

Cons: Nothing on the camera itself. Crawling under my vehicle to run wiring and finding somewhere to enter the cab of my truck with the wiring was a little aggravating. I went through the grommet that the gear shift cable runs through and that seemed to work out pretty good.

Great picture!

Written by: EricS from Illinois on May 14, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall I like the quality of the picture from the Accele RVCLPMB backup camera. It's not very aesthetically pleasing as it sits on top of the license plate and also covers part of my plate where the registration stickers are placed. Install was a bit tricky on my 2007 Toyota Sequoia as the license plate is on the lift gate, and the lift gate has a window that lowers into the door.

Pros: Good quality image.

Cons: Covers up part of registration sticker on plate. Tricky install on lift gates.

Written by: RB from Georgia on April 26, 2015

Works as expected. Easy to see what is behind the vehicle. Easy to adjust. Installation was time consuming because of having to run all the wires and hide them. It was not difficult, just time consuming. I also looked at some onlinee videos prior to install and that helped a lot because there are very little instructions that come with the camera.

Pros: great view and works well

Cons: installation time but worth the install savings

Nice Camera

Written by: dwinkley from Texas on April 20, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very nice unit, so much sturdier, better picture etc than another cheaper one I bought for the other car. Bolted up in seconds (which means can come off just as fast so I'm working up another way to make it more difficult to remove), plenty of cable for a F350 long bed pickup, instant "on" with great picture. Can't go wrong with this unit.

Pros: Lenghty of cable, sturdy housing, excellent picture.

Cons: easy on means easy off if someone wants it (and is willing to cut the cable)

Good unit. I use it to line up the ball hitch with the different trailers I tow. It took a bit of getting use to and adjusting the contrast and tint to be able to see what is going on

Pros: Once adjusted and with a little practice I can line up the ball with the hitch pretty well

Cons: The picture is not very clear, more on the fuzzy side even after playing with the tint and contrast adjustments.

Great camera for the money. Mounted on center of the underside of my bumper on my 2015 Jeep Unlimited. Broad angle of view. You could spend more on a camera but why when this camera does everything you'll need.

Pros: Works well in the dark like the grid lines camera swivels so you can mount in different locations

Seems good for price

Written by: PKI from Glen Allen, VA on January 11, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had it installed for a week and it seems great so far. I like the guidelines, but need to adjust the angle to make the red/yellow/green lines make any sense. Or just get used to them.

Pros: Very clear, bright, wide angle picture. Frame seems to be durable metal construction & good looking Straightforward installation, though instructions were not detailed Cable provided was long enough to route inside car to front in a Sequoia.

Cons: RCA plugs required a larger hole than previous camera and made routing the cable to front more difficult. Center contact snagged in a rubber conduit and broke off, but I was able to solder another RCA on. Notch in frame to allow cable to run under only allows for mounting on top of plate. I solved this by taking the four small screws out and flipping camera over. On my car, I wouldn't be able to get to the adjusting screws if I hadn't flipped it, so it solves both issues.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works great and good picture. Had in my truck for 5 months before I got around to 100% fixing it.. INSTALL: Everyone kept saying connect to reverse lights. Wasn't so simple. My reverse lights did not give enough power for the camera. I had to plug the power cable to the 12v trailer control plug on my truck (next to the camera) and then got extra wire I had laying around, about 2ft and connected it to the small rca red remote power wire so it could reach my reverse lights.. The camera gets enough power now and the remote wire connected to the reverse lights tells my screen when I put it in reverse.

Cons: The video wire broke when pulling it through the chassis. The wire is barely long enough to reach the front of a Honda Odyssey.

Good camera for the money. Guidelines that are superimposed on the rear view could be improved and we'd like to see Crutchfield offer better installation instructions but the overall experience and final result is good.

Pros: Good picture both day and night.

Great picture, horrible design

Written by: Joe M from Philadelphia, PA on July 14, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The picture quality on this camera is great. The guide lines are a nice touch (you can disable them as well). Also the ability to run the reverse signal wire with the video helps.

The overall installation on the other hand is horrid. The cabling is so thick at places and is not detachable which makes getting it into the car a real feat of patience and determination. I actually resorted to drilling a hole through the trunk lid to get it into the car. I suspect this is designed for an suv or a vehicle with some sort bigger license plate bulb opening.

Pros: great picture quality optional guide lines

Cons: installation is a pain wiring should be either detachable or smaller

It is offset by enough to inflict iritation of my OCD. I tried to slide it left and right and even put washers behind one side but it didn't help. Will check in with tech support tomorrow n

Pros: Cheap, good quality picture

Cons: Not centered

Good camera. I was hoping for a bit wider view, but spec on other cameras are even less wide. I can't see edge of bumper when backing up at an angle. But a view that wide just might be impossible

Pros: Clear view. Straight up install

Cons: I was hoping for even a wider view, but have nothing else to compare it to.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my first backup cam, but the picture quality is amazing. I am very happy with this. At night, the backup lights provide enough light for the camera to work really well.

Pros: Great Picture, works in low-light without infrared, low cost

Cons: covers the top part of the license plate that says "Georgia", don't know if this is legal or I will eventually get in trouble

No more blind spots

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this on a customized 05 Mustang. The car already had blind spots and after the customization it had a lot less. Kind of joked that is was a go forward car only. Not anymore - the ranger of vision this camera picks up lets you see everything when you hit reverse and in color - really cool. I'd recommend this for anyone looking for a rear view camera.

Pros: Comes with all the mounting hardware and connecting cables - I think it was 15 foot.

Cons: Could use a little more instruction on installation wiring - I've been in electronics for over 40 yrs but for a novice it is a very poor write up.

Illegal in Arizona

Written by: PhxRick from Phoenix, AZ on April 12, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Looks good our of the box, very contemporary an all that. But when I positioned it onto the license plate bracket, I discovered that it covered the state name. In Arizona that's illegal (since 2009). That's not Accele's fault, some/many states do not have that restriction and, had I been paying closer attention to the picture when I ordered it, the issue would have been readily apparent. I only post this review as an advisory to prospective buyers; check with your DMV before buying ANY license plate camera. BTW, customer service was very helpful with the return and emailed me a prepaid UPS label. No complaints at all.

Pros: Looks good, probably works fine.

Cons: Not legal in some states. Crutchfield might have mentioned that in the overview.

Cheap product for the price. I would have expected something better for the price paid for this item. All in all, save your money and either buy a better camera or spend less and buy something of similar quality.

Pros: Works

Cons: 1. The ferrite filter is mounted on the cable in such a manner where it forces you to drill a hole much larger than necessary. I would have designed it to be installed with the filter downstream of the RCA connections. 1. Grainy video. Not particularly impressed

Well I hate to admit this but with age comes less mobility so it is harder for me to turn around and look out the back windows to see also my disability interferes also. I bought this back-up-camera and I thought it would at least be a fair picture, well I was surprised the picture is nice and clear and undistorted very nice. This Camera really makes backing up a dream very nice looking also it just blends right in with the car and plate frame it has a nice finish on it and will weather nicely also. I sure am glad I read all the reviews of this camera they all say it is a really nice camera and I agree with the reviews

Pros: Looks nice, Blends in with the car contours, nice shiny finish, Small, Great picture, Clear picture, undistorted picture, NO blurring, See's far and near very clearly, has markings for green yellow and stop on screen telling you how close or far away you are,

Cons: I just can't think of any.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It's a great camera for the price. I was thinking of investing in a more expensive camera and doing a permanent custom install, but I was afraid I wouldn't get the right camera angle. After reading the reviews I'm glad I went with this. It's actually more of a "black chrome" finish, which is a plus since it doesn't look like your run-of-the-mill license plate back-up camera, and I love the adjustability of the camera angle. Some have commented on poor night quality but I disagree. Yes it's a bit grainy in the evening, (much like a regular photo camera would be in low light) but it's still much sharper than I expected.

Pros: Price is right, adjustable camera angle, nice finish.

Reasonable camera for the price, watch for faulty parts

Written by: Giggity from VA on August 14, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This camera is what you would expect for the price. The picture quality is good enough for its purpose - any people/objects in the camera's field are clearly visible, and the delay for things to appear on screen is short. (Fraction of a second) My main gripe is that my unit came with a faulty RCA cable, of all things. It greatly increased the install time as I had to troubleshoot the problem - and of course the cable was one of the last things I checked. I bought a replacement RCA cable locally rather than call Crutchfield since I wanted to finish the install the same day - so that defect put me out a few extra bucks. Given the generic nature of the product, I'd assume defect rates are higher than the name brands - so if you're willing to risk it, this certainly is a good deal cheaper than the Pioneer/Kenwood cameras.

This camera comes with range lines, which is nice, though you can disable that by cutting a cord if you prefer.

Splicing the power line into the reverse taillight isn't fun, but not terribly complicated if you have Posi-tap connectors for the job. (This product should come with one!)

Another plus is that it comes with a license plate bracket. If you want to mount on the license plate, this is an even better deal - as the name brands that offer plate brackets don't include them with the camera and charge an excessive amount for them.

Buy a RCA extension cable if you have a larger car. The length of this cable wasn't sufficient for my Grand Caravan.

Pros: Price Range lines Comes with license plate bracket

Cons: Faulty RCA cable RCA cable too short for my minivan No posi-tap connector included

Great camera attached it to a JVC DVD Receiver, instructions leave a lot to be desired luckily didn't need too much. Picture is great quality cable length was plenty to get from Tailgate of 2009 Subaru Forester to the Receiver though had to disassemble all tailgate trim to get wires inside. I did need all of the vertical adjustment to get it to see low enough to help with parking.

Pros: Quality picture, decent price looks good.

Cons: Instructions.

Good, could be better.

Written by: Tab from Louisville ky on June 5, 2013

Simple install, instructions are not detailed so some technical understanding is needed. Picture quality isn't the best but it is a backup camera not a bluray movie. Video cable is on the short end, although it was just long enough for my 2008 Colorado some bigger trucks will need a longer cable. Also the cable hole on the bracket so you don't pinch the wire was on the bottom so when mounting it on top of the license plate the cable is coming out of the bottom then wrapping around the top. I think they should have made a slot on both top and bottom for either mounting locations.

Pros: Looks great. Works great.

Cons: Picture quality. Vague instructions. No options in cable length.

I love this camera. It has a great range. I mounted it on my 03 Sequoia and have had great success with it. It works wonderful with my new Pioneer deck. I like it because it is easily adjustable. The biggest thing is to get the viewing area exactly how you like it. I needed mine angled more downward to see things in my garage and when street parking. Awesome camera. Very clear image. The fisheye from the wideangle lens is a little bit to get used to. Installed in a 99 dodge ram quad cab long bed. Had plenty of wire in the kit. One part of crutchfield said it comes with 16' of cord and the other says 24'. I'm leaning more towards the 24' coming in the kit. Instructions are a little vague though. Took a little common sense, (and a working knowledge considering I'd just done it 2 days before). lol. All in all an awesome product and the perfect addition to any full size pickup as mine is on 35's and is about a chore to park on a good day. lol! Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It is good looking and is made of quality materials. The video image is quite good. There is some image saturation when backing towards the sun. Although installation is pretty obvious, I was dissatisfied with the lack of any installation instructions regarding which way is up and whether or not the visible screws are for adjusting the up/down angle of the camera??? Still haven't tried the adjustment beacuse the image is not too far off in vertical adjustment. I think that angling it down somewhat would make the sunlight overexposure problem less pronounced. There is an overlay which appears on the image to indicate danger zones when backing, but no audible collision imminent warning as in the newer factory installed rear view camera / sensors.

Pros: Quality, Appearance

Cons: Lack of installation / alignment directions. Video saturation with strong light sources.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very clear, color resolution on the pioneer dvd screen. 16 ft cable just barley long enough for extended cab, double cab buyers will probably need longer cable.

Pros: Very clear picture and easy to install

Cons: No intstructions,

It should work great for this. You can also set the angle so it will allow you to aim it right where you need it. [ MICHAEL L  Jul 26, 2015 ]
Mine does! [ Steve  Jul 26, 2015 ]
I have noticed it really does not aim downward, it pretty much aims straight backwards but it is a little adjustable so you may be able to aim it down a bit. But it does focus in very well on items up close and personal, the center piece that is about a 1".5 long is a little lose and has screws on the back, it moves up and down a bit. Focus is really great and the camera work really well, I have had it for maybe two years and no problems of any kind, NONE I really like how clear it is!! and at night it is well lit up, I guess by the back up lights! This is Sleepersteve! [ Steve  Jul 26, 2015 ]
Very good depth of field - I have one on my SportTrac and use it to align the hitch. Works very well except at night, though you could add an auxiliary light - I've been thinking about doing that. [ STEVEN  Jul 26, 2015 ]
I think so mine is very clear and I can see well. I don't have it point that far down but I believe you could get a good line on the hitch and tongue [ STEVE  Jul 25, 2015 ]
I installed on 2011 Dakota, works fine. [ Richard  Mar 10, 2015 ]
I do not know, sorry. [ JOE  Feb 26, 2015 ]
I installed on a 350Z convertible. Worked great. [ JEREMY  Feb 26, 2015 ]
hello Bob I have mounted this camera on the top and bottom of the license plate also on the top of my Blazer and now I have it mounted on the back of my Chrysler Sebring.(I used double back tape) The camera works well.On the back of the mounting brackets are small screws carefully loosen the screws to allow the camera itself to roll up or down.Just remember to tighten the screws after aligning camera. You should be fine. I hope this answers your question [ CURTIS  Jan 02, 2015 ]
I have this camera mounted on the bottom of the license plate on my 2007 Mustang, and the camera works great. It has an excellent field of vision; however I can understand your concern about seeing past the lip/hitch area on a truck's rear bumper, which my car does not have. The lens can be adjusted up and down with set screws, and a little adjustment goes a long way with it. You may have to slightly angle the lens upward so you don't get a view full of bumper, but I believe the camera will still be quite useful even with a slight upward angle. Hope this helps! [ JERARD  Jan 02, 2015 ]
I mounted my camera on a Chevy 2500hd and I can see everything I need to see. I can see the receiver ball and I can see everything around it. It works great [ JUSTIN  Jan 02, 2015 ]

I would ask for a new because mine has been with me for two vehicles and works great. It's not for long distance but out ten feet is it fine and clear. I have a Jensen audio deck with camera inputs. Try calling customer service (always be nice) and if you don't get resolve with one rep. ask to speak with their Supervisior and their Supervisior until you are satisfied. I hope this helps you. [ CURTIS  Nov 23, 2014 ]
Try wiping the lens with rubbing alcohol then buff with a good polish.? It's should just be water spots [ CHRISTOPHER  Nov 22, 2014 ]
Mine works fine only little foggy when it's very humid out [ JOHN  Nov 22, 2014 ]
Yes it does cover about a 16th of an inch of my tabs, not a big deal! [ Steve  Jul 26, 2015 ]
You can choose whether you want to install it on the top or the bottom 1/2 of your license plate. That way, if you have reg. stickers that go on the plate you can avoid that area. I installed mine on the top 2 holes, it fits the license plate well, might be a touch wider than it, but if so it's not noticeable. Hope this helps! [ STEVEN  Jun 14, 2014 ]
On cali plates, it will cover the month and the first 2 numbers of the year...BUT...can see the last 2 numbers of the year pretty clearly. Ran it for a year with no problems from the police before selling the car. Yes every year it has to come off. It takes 1 min to take off or on. I never thought it was a bug deal. [ JASON  Jun 01, 2014 ]
It is longer than necessary and slightly obscures the registration stickers. You do have to remove it to apply new stickers and reinstall. I have not found any of those issues to be very problematic. [ RONNIE  May 31, 2014 ]
To big of a deal. It mounts easily and works great. I love mine. And if I remember correctly it is not in the way. [ LARRY  May 31, 2014 ]
I live in WV and our stickers on on the bottom right of the plate, so that is not a problem for me. And it's two screws even if you have to take it off. The biggest problem I had was running the wire from my lift gate up to the dash. I put mine on a Dodge Grand Caravan. Put well worth the time. Not hard, just took my time and made sure wire was hidden. I think you are making too big a deal out of it. Well worth any trouble it may cause. And if removing two screws once a year is a big deal...get an battery powered screwdriver! [ JEFF  May 31, 2014 ]
Yes it does show a grid lines and I have to do calibration. It's not one size fit all. I have to do modify to fit it into my SUV. [ PEOV D  May 30, 2014 ]
The camera comes preset with gridlines. I did not see any way to Calibrate for my vehicle. There is a wire you can disconnect to remove grid lines completely if they do not work for you. hope this helps [ GREG M  May 30, 2014 ]
No grids no calibration. Very simple to install and very clear picture [ CHRISTOPHER  May 30, 2014 ]
The display shows tapered dotted lines that are a bit wider than your car and then 3 horizontal lines before you hit with a flashing stop. It kind of emulates the lines in a parking spot and makes backing into a spot easy. No calibration was required for my van. Nice product and have been happy with it for over 7 months and a harsh winter. [ PAUL  May 30, 2014 ]
It does show one size fits all grid lines. There is an option to remove the lines when installing by cutting a wire [ DEREK L  May 29, 2014 ]

I'm not aware of a way to calibrate. [ JOE  May 29, 2014 ]
the camera is always on, its the monitor that would switch to the input of the camera when the vehicle is put in reverse. So to answer your question, yes you can leave it on all the time. Mine is 4 years old and still works great. [ CHRISTOPHER R  Apr 06, 2014 ]
You could wire it up using a toggle switch If you have a dedicated display for the camera you could just attach the power wire of the camera to any hot wire with ignition on and have rear view all the time. But if you are using a multi function display (such as radio) I would do the toggle switch since it will negate any of the other controls while on [ DAVID N  Apr 04, 2014 ]
I actually had it hooked up that way via a switch I had mounted in a perfect location on my dash. It looks really cool when your driving and you turn it on-people loved it. Or to watch what's going on behind you while parked. The problem? Every time I did it, shortly thereafter the receiver would zap out. It didn't matter if I was driving or in park. I would then have to reset the receiver (with a pulled open paper clip), and of course that means you have to re-set everything as if it was newly installed. The installer said there was no work around. After the third or fourth time I decided to forgo using the switch ever again... [ WILLIAM  Apr 04, 2014 ]
They guy that hooked mine up said you could. Involved something about a relay. [ DARIUS  Apr 04, 2014 ]
Only in reverse [ SCOTT D  Apr 04, 2014 ]
Thanks [ Tom  Apr 04, 2014 ]
I ran mine through an existing hole behind my license plate to the frame rail then stayed on the frame rail to the engine compartment up through the engine compartment and fire wall along an existing wiring harness and then inside the dash to the radio. Fairly simple on a 2005 f150. [ HEATH  Apr 04, 2014 ]
When I installed mine I routed the cable following the passenger side of the main frame beam. Tying it with zip ties and keeping it up high and out of harms way. The toughest part was finding a soft spot in the firewall to get the wire out of the cab. I located a rubber plug in the passenger side floorboard, under the carpet that I was able to cut a slit and pass the cable through. [ MICHAEL  Apr 04, 2014 ]
Follow factory wires on frame [ JOHN M  Apr 04, 2014 ]
My suv has a hatch back.... I routed the wire from the dash. ..along driver side floor molding...up the rear eindi w molding into the hatch back to the license plate frame [ DANIEL  Apr 04, 2014 ]

It depends on how you hook it up. Mine is hooked up straight to my head unit and reverse wire. So it only turns on in reverse or if I manually turn it on through the head unit. So long story short the camera draws 0 amps I hooked up the propper way when the vehicle is off. [ CHRISTOPHER  Mar 24, 2014 ]
It is basically a cell phone camera and would draw only fractions of an amp. I would guess 40 mA nominal. [ PAUL  Mar 24, 2014 ]
This mounts to your license plate its really not noticeable, I have been all over the United States and Canada and my truck has sat overnight in some pretty bad areas with no problem. [ CHRISTOPHER R  Jan 21, 2014 ]
The simple way would be to replace the existing phillips or flat head screws that attach your plates with a torx head type screw or even an allen wrench head. This wont completely keep thieves from stealing it, but it will prevent any ordinary Joe walking around with a screwdriver in his pocket from taking it. [ JAMES  Jan 20, 2014 ]
Thanks got a few replies on this question. I appreciate the answers thanks fellas. [ christian  Jan 20, 2014 ]
Nope thanks. I already have a Clifford pager alarm and a CCW so I think I' am gtg lol. I haven't had any issues with my system so far though I do turn it down before I enter my complex. [ christian  Jan 20, 2014 ]
Thanks for the input [ christian  Jan 20, 2014 ]
Auto stores sell a license plate bolt kit that requires a special wrench to install and remove the bolts. Very effective. [ FREDERICK R  Jan 20, 2014 ]
You can buy one-way screws perhaps. Take the originals in to a hardware store and see if they are available in that size. Or, once you install them, you can take a 1/4" drill bit and sdrill out the Philips head. But then they would be very difficult (but not impossible) for you to remove also should you ever need to in the future. [ WILLIAM  Jan 20, 2014 ]
hi I was skeptical at first since it's only $80 bucks. there were mixed reviews on it but I gambled and I'm glad I did. I have it on a sierra 1500 for 7 months now and it works perfect. very clear for $80. my license plate light gives off a good amount of light for night time so i can still see n it's still useful. I would give it a 4-4.5 for day time n 2-3 at night. I would def buy again; I'm totally satisfied. hope this review helps. [ THOMAS  Jan 20, 2014 ]
I used security style screws most likely they won't have the right screw driver to get it off [ ROB  Jan 20, 2014 ]
Use a very odd shaped screw, so that a typical screwdriver does not just take it off also glue it so it is very difficult to take off. That's what we did, but my trunk is parked in a secure area. Anything else? [ RUSSELL  Jan 20, 2014 ]
Use button head anti tamper fasteners. Should be able to find them at McMaster Carr or a really good hardware store. [ RANDALL D  Jan 20, 2014 ]
i have a 2003 Avalanche 1500 LTZ, but it should be the same if not very similar. I ran the cord under the steering wheel and over the hood open lever. Behind the hood open lever there are a bunch of cords that come from the outsid, under the truck. i followed those cords out of the truck and ran the cable against the frame all the way to the back of the truck. i then attached the power cable to the reverse light and connected the ground. Hope that helps. AG [ ALEX  Jan 19, 2014 ]
Since it's an American car, your gas tank is probably on the driver side and your fuse box is probably on the passenger - the latter is in the passenger foot well on mine but check yours first. Go opposite the gas tank side if you can, avoid the drive shaft and exhaust for hopefully obvious reasons, and use a good set of heavy duty zip ties - the kind with a high melting point meant for outdoor use, you can find those pretty easily - and tie the cable up to the frame every 3 feet or so. Tap in to the power/reverse lights at your front fuse box, hook up to your HU, and you are good to go. I have this camera, use it with an AppRadio 3, it works great, nice resolution, decent low-light performance (the reverse lights help), good field of view. I have a friend with one who has had problems with interference (lines on the screen) so you may want to buy some ferrite cable clamps, I didn't have this issue myself. I have a 5.5 foot bed and the cable was plenty long enough but you may need an extension if you have a 7+ foot bed on your truck. Overall it's pretty simple to install if you know how to wire it. [ GEOFF  Jan 17, 2014 ]
Thanks bud appreciate it [ christian  Dec 31, 2013 ]
I installed this on my Pioneer AVH last summer and use it constantly as a backup camera. I haven't checked with writing to see if the image is reversed, but when I look at the picture on the Pioneer's screen backing up into my driveway for instance, my house shows on the left side of the screen just as it does in the Rearview Mirror. Hope this helps. The camera works great! May or may not be tricky to route the wiring from the back of your car all the way to the head, on my Subaru Outback it was fairly simple. [ STEVEN  Dec 30, 2013 ]
Yes, and very good image in low light. [ JIM D  Dec 29, 2013 ]
Yes it is. I had this for almost 7 months, and quality and image are still very good. That's a great buy. [ DENRICK E  Dec 27, 2013 ]
