The fully automated camera will start recording once the engine is turned on and it'll stop when the engine is turned off. Beyond that, you don't need to think about it again if you don't want to. All you need to know is that the CDR 820 is loop-recording a high resolution, wide-angle view of the road to document whatever comes your way.

Ready at a second's notice

With so many distracted drivers on the road, accidents are inevitable. If you're involved in one, the built-in G-Sensor will detect sudden acceleration or a collision, then save the critical footage. You can also set the date and time to pinpoint exactly when the event occurred, in order to provide a more complete presentation of the saved incident. An integrated microphone allows audio recording capability, and if you need to take the cam out and get some shots of damage, the CDR 820 features photo capability, a 1-1/2" LCD display, and a rechargeable battery as well.

Webcam capability

If you'd like to use the CDR 820 as a wide-angle web cam, simply adjust a setting, mount the camera, and plug it into your computer using the included USB cord.

Video output

The CDR 820 records 1080p, 720p or 480p video files in a continuous loop, using the included 8 GB microSD card. The included card will give you 2 hours of video at 1080p. To increase storage, you can add a larger microSD™ card (up to 32 GB for 8 hours of video at 1080p).

Features

Overview: The Cobra CDR 820 Drive HD dash camera can record audio and video as you travel down the highway in up to Full 1080p High Definition. It can also take still images at up to 14M resolution. You can monitor what you're recording on the built-in 1.5" LCD monitor. The dash cam operates the supplied cigarette lighter adapter, with a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery backup.

Lens: The camera is equipped with a wide-angle lens with a 118° angle of view. The camera is on a swivel that rotates for front or rear recording. This gives you a wide view of the road, or inside the cab. In still image mode, you can activate the digital zoom up to 4x to get a closer shot.

Recording/Playback Modes: The CDR 820's Mode Button lets you switch between Video Recording, Still Image Recording, Video Playback, and Still Image Playback.

Recording Resolution: The CDR 820 is equipped with a 5 megapixel image sensor that is capable of recording video up to Full HD and 14M still images. Videos and Still Images can be recorded in two quality settings: SHQ and HQ. You can choose from the following resolutions for video or still image recording:

Time/Date Stamp: As the CDR 820 records, a time/date stamp is embedded on all recordings.

Microphone Mute: The Dash Cam records audio and video simultaneously. You can mute the microphone at any time by pressing the "up" button.

Exposure Options: In both recording modes, you can select from the following "scenes": Auto, Sport, Portrait, Landscape, Snow, Beach, and Fireworks. You can also adjust the Exposure by +/-2.0EV for dark or bright environments.

Still Image Effects: When shooting still images, you can apply the following effects: Normal, retro, black & white, relief, negative, drawing, painting, and crayon.

microSD Card: The audio and video are recorded onto a microSD memory card up to 32 GB. The supplied 8 GB microSD card is removable, allowing you to use other cards, if desired.

Continuous Cyclical Recording: The CDR 820 will record in a continuous loop, overwriting old footage when the card becomes full until you save it.

G-Sensor: A built-in G-Sensor can detect when a collision has occurred and will automatically save your recording. If the G-Sensor is triggered and video is not being recorded, it will start recording video automatically. You can set the sensitivity of the G-Sensor from 0 (off) to 4 (max).

Motion Sensor: The Motion Event Record feature lets you automatically begin recording when the camera senses that the image has changed substantially. This feature also allows you to automatically record video when you're moving and stop recording video when you stop. The motion detector's sensitivity can be set between 0 (off) and 3 (max).

HDMI Output: The unit has a Mini HDMI output, allowing you to connect the camera to an HDTV for viewing photos and videos. In the menu, you can set the HDMI output to 1080i or 720p.

USB: The unit's USB port can be used to connect to your PC for file transfer, charge the battery, or to power the unit for recording or playback. The menu also allows you to select Mass Storage to view files, or to use it as a webcam with your computer.

Menu Languages: The menu supports the following languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.

Backup Battery: The built-in Lithium-Ion battery is intended to operate the unit for a short time after a power loss due to an accident or a crash. If the unit is turned on without the Cigarette Lighter adapter attached, you can manually start recording for approximately 1.5 hours on battery power. To conserve power, the screen will turn off after 30 seconds.

Mounting: The CDR 820 comes with a suction cup mounting bracket. The bracket has a ball/socket adjustment to allow you to position the camera for best visibility.
