It offers Cobra's most powerful system yet for picking up radar signals, including X, K, Ka, and Ku bands — effective up to 9 miles ahead of your vehicle. Cobra Vedetta SLR 650G radar detector

The Cobra Vedetta SLR 650G fits anywhere on your windshield for easy access.

2.4" color display

You'll see more info at a glance with the SLR 650G's handy color LCD screen. The screen swivels on a multi-axis hinge that allows 270 degrees of vertical movement and 60 degrees of horizontal adjustment. The detector itself offers a ball-socket mounting bracket for maximum versatility when placing it in your car. Whether you mount it on the windshield or dash, you'll be able to position the screen for easy viewing. The display features seven convenient touch controls for easy access to settings and menu functions.

The 2.4" TFT display offers a selectable color palette to complement your car's interior lighting. As you drive, you'll also see your compass heading, vehicle speed, current filtering mode (city or highway), battery voltage, and mute settings, as well as alerts for laser pulse rate and radar band type, strength, and frequency. And if you want to hear about it, you can program the detector to give you digital voice and tone alerts as well. When you're not using the detector, you can fold up the screen to keep it out of your line of sight.

Stay positive

The SLR 650G helps you combat false alerts and other annoyances. IntelliShield™ city filtering works on four selectable levels to rule out automatic door and garage opener signals and keep you free from unwanted alerts. IntelliMute™ speed-based sensitivity uses your engine's RPMs to determine if you should hear an alert or not, based on how fast you are going.

AURA® database of camera locations

The Vedetta SLR 650G comes with a preloaded AURA database of red-light and radar camera locations across North America, allowing the detector's screen to warn you as one approaches. You'll also get alerts for known enforcement and high-accident areas. You can even add your own local "hotspots" through the detector. Cobra's website lets you download updates. Access to the AURA database is free with your purchase of the SLR 650G.

Other handy features

A built-in 8-point electronic compass will help you find your way. You can also set a speed alert on the detector to give you a warning when you're exceeding a preset limit.

Overall this product had some good features such a gps like screen, intuitive controls, decent detections, but there were some issues like it was too bouncy on the mount, off axis detection was similar to a cheaper whistler model, plenty of false and no feature to lock those false out.

Pros: Good screen, decent detection

Cons: off axis detection not great, bouncy on the mount

Cobra SLR 650G

Written by: NormanF from Glen Burnie, MD on May 15, 2013

This Cobra 650G out preformed other radar detectors that I used in the past. After 15 minuets of reading the instructions, I had tested how to turn all features on and off. I found it is easy to move the display in various positions for your best view of the screen. This feature allows you to position the radar unit any ware on the windshield and turn the screen towards you. After my reading and testing, I had it on the windshield and was on the road watching it find several of the radar signals. Listening and glancing at the unit, I knew immediately what radar I was approaching. This Cobra SLR 650G is worth every penny. It will definitely warn you well in advance and that is what set it apart from other units.

Pros: It is easy to understand and set desired features. The flexability of the screen positioning is a plus. The GPS and speed alert are nice. Atother great feature is displaying battery voltage which will keep you aware of your battery's condition. With all the radar bands and these other great features the Cobra SLR 650G is well worth buying.

Cons: The provided literature did not indicate that the device has VG-2 protection. This was only indicated when reading all the material at web site.

Vedetta Series: The Cobra SLR 650G is part of the Vedetta Ultimate Detection Systems Series. It detects all radar guns, laser guns, and red light/speed cameras in use today. This new series offers a 30% increase in performance over Cobra's previous flagship model. The Vedetta Series provides a 2.4" color LCD display, and a new adjustable mount.

2.4" LCD Display: The SLR 650G features a 2.4" LCD screen with an easy-to-glance graphical display to help you keep your eyes on the road. The display is mounted on a ball-socket suction cup bracket, allowing you to mount the detector virtually anywhere on the dash or windshield. The display can be rotated 270 degrees vertically, allowing you to choose a flip-up or a flip-down position, and turn the display 60 degrees for best visibility from the driver's seat. The orientation of the display can easily be set to match the mounting position. If desired, you can mount the display on the dash using the provided self-adhesive hook-and-loop fasteners.

Touch-Point Controls: The display has touch point controls on the outer edges of the screen that light up automatically to show you available options. The controls include Volume (1-7), Display Brightness (1-5) Left/Right Scroll, City/Highway Mode, Color Themes, Select, and Menu/Save & Exit.

Aura Database: The SLR 650G adds another level of protection by providing the location of red light cameras, speed cameras, known speed traps, and dangerous intersections through the Aura Camera & Driving Hazard Database. With the purchase of the SLR 650G, you get lifetime access to the national database.

Note: You must first register the unit with Cobra, and download the database into your detector via the provided USB cable. Internet access is required. You can download Aura database updates at any time once you are registered.

GPS: The unit's built-in GPS receiver provides vehicle location data to the unit, and sounds an alert when you are near the location of a known threat area. The receiver also monitors your speed, and can alert you when you exceed a set speed. When initially setting up the detector, you must set parameters for the Speed Alert (on/off), Format (Miles/Kilometers per hour), Caution area alert (on/off), Speed Trap Alert (on/off), Photo Enforcement area (on/off), Intelliscope, and Aura database info.

IntelliScope: When IntelliScope is turned on, the unit will not only provide detection of a nearby Location-based Alert (LBA), it will also provide the direction (with a pointing arrow) towards that LBA location. With IntelliScope off, you will only get alerts for those LBAs you are directly approaching.

Color Themes: The unit offers a variety of color themes to match your vehicle's instrument lighting. You can select from blue, green, orange, red, white, and multi.

Compass: The SLR 650G offers an 8-point magnetic compass to provide the directional heading of the vehicle. The compass must first be calibrated prior to initial use.

Screen Indicators: The Standby screen will indicate the compass heading, current speed, vehicle battery voltage, city/highway mode, and the IntelliMute status. During a Radar alert, the screen shows the Radar band type, frequency, and signal strength in numerals and bar graph. With Laser signals, the screen will indicate "Laser" and the pulse rate (100, 125, 130, 200, 238, or 340).

Audible Alerts: In addition to visual alerts, the unit provides audible alerts. The audible alerts can be set to tone or voice.

Vehicle Battery Voltage: The SLR 650G monitors the voltage of the vehicle's battery, and displays the voltage in the Standby Screen. The unit will alert you if the battery voltage drops below 11.9 volts. The low battery warning can be turned on or off in the Alert Settings menu.

Radar Alert Settings: The SLR 650G lets you customize the detector to suit your needs. Each of the four radar bands (X, K, Ka, and Ku) can be toggled on or off.

Note: Laser monitoring cannot be turned off.

IntelliShield: Quad-level IntelliShield provides protection against false alerts from Automatic Door Openers and other devices which operate in the X and K-band frequencies. to minimize unwanted false alerts in a city environment, you can select one of the following city modes:

  • City X: automatically mutes X-band audible alert until signal strength reaches level 3 or above.
  • City X+K: combined with City X, automatically mutes K-band audible alerts until signal strength reaches level 2 or above.
  • City X+K+Ka: combined with City X+K, automatically mutes Ka-band audible alerts until signal strength reaches level 2 or above.
  • City Max: Maximum filtering against urban false signal sources.

IntelliMute: IntelliMute allows you to avoid audible alerts you don't need to hear because you are either stopped or moving slowly. By sensing the RPMs of the engine, IntelliMute knows that you are driving at a low speed and automatically mutes all alerts (except for strobe signals from emergency vehicles). You must first set an activation point for your engine's RPMs, and when the revs go below that point, IntelliMute begins muting. Once set, the activation point is stored in memory.

Smart Power: The SLR 650G is powered by a 6' straight cord that plugs into your vehicle's cigarette lighter or 12-volt power adapter. The SmartPower feature, when activated, puts the unit into Standby mode for about 15 minutes after the car's engine has been turned off. After 30 minutes in Standby mode, the unit will automatically shut off.
