15-Band Radar/Laser Detection: The Cobra
XRS 9990 detects 15 bands of radar and laser, including 2 Safety Alert Systems:
* new technology
S-XRS Technology: The XRS 9990 is equipped with Super-Xtreme Range
Superheterodyne Technology, with super-fast sweep circuitry, to provide maximum
detection range, and the best possible advance warning to even the fastest of
the instant-on radar guns.
ExtremeBright DataGrafix Display: The unit features a
bright, full-color, 1.0" OLED display, with 3D Datagrafix icons providing enhanced
data display. You can choose from 5 different color schemes to match your dash
illumination: red, blue, orange, green, or multi-color. You can also choose
between 3 levels of brightness, and the length of time before the display
timeout takes effect: 15 or 30 seconds, 1 or 3 minutes, or Always on. When the
display times out, it goes dark, except for one moving dot.
Instant On/Pop Alert:
The detector is designed to detect Instant-On
speed monitoring signals, which suddenly appear at full strength. Pop Alert
provides protection against the new K & Ka Pop mode (single pulse) radar gun signals and provides super-fast, instant-on
detection. During a Pop alert, the detector will continue to detect other
signals. Note: Radar guns have a much shorter range when in the Pop mode,
so appropriate action should be taken immediately whenever a Pop alert is given.
The XRS 9990 will give you advanced alert of the presence and/or approach of
emergency vehicles. This is a Cobra exclusive that works with the tens of
thousands of emergency vehicles currently equipped with traffic light
controlling strobe emitters, which activate red lights at traffic
intersections in emergency high speed situations.
The Cobra XRS 9990 will give you advanced alert of the presence and/or approach
of emergency vehicles, trains, and road hazards from systems equipped with
Safety Alert Traffic Warning System transmitters.
Visual Alerts: The display includes the type of signals
detected and a numeric indication of the signal strength from one (weakest) to five (strongest).
You can set the unit to sound alerts and confirm user settings with either a
Voice or a Tone alert. The Voice Alert provides specific band annunciation, in addition to
tones. Tone Alert provides tones only. A distinctly different tone is used for
each type of signal detected, and with radar bands, the tones will repeat faster
as you approach the signal source.
The top-mounted LaserEye provides you with 360° degree detection of laser signals.
When mounting the unit, you much make sure the LaserEye has a clear view to the
front and rear of the vehicle.
VG-2/Spectre I/IV+ Protection:
The XRS 9990 will alert you when VG-2, Spectre I, and the new Spectre IV+ radar
detector detection (RDD) are in use near your vehicle. The unit is undetectable by VG-2 and Spectre
I devices, but can be spotted by Spectre IV+ RDDs. During an alert, the unit continues to detect other signals.
You can choose whether or not you want the unit to show VG-2 and Spectre I and
alerts and whether or not to sound audible alerts.
Programming: Easy-Set Programming gives you quick and easy access to
all the settings on the unit. The Menu is divided into two sections:
"System Ready" Prompt: When the unit is first
powered on, the detector goes through a series of self tests. If successfully
completed, a "System Ready" prompt occurs and the unit is ready to begin
Auto/Manual Muting: When Auto Mute is On, the unit
automatically reduces the audio volume of all alerts after they have sounded for
four seconds. The signals will remain muted for as long as the signal is
detected. When manually muting, you must press the Mute button while a signal is
being received. This will reduce the volume of the alert in progress. The volume
will return to normal for the next signal.
IntelliShield: The XRS 9990 features IntelliShield to reduce the number of false alerts in
densely populated areas caused by microwave relay towers and automatic door
openers. In addition to a Highway mode, the unit has three levels of City modes:
- City X: sounds a single
beep when the X-band signal is first detected. The alert then sounds when
the signal strength reaches Level 3
- City X Beep Off: prevents
all X band audio alerts until the signal strength reaches Level 3
- City X+K: combination of
City X mode with prevention of K band audio alerts until the signal strength
reads Level 2
IntelliMute: IntelliMute allows you to avoid alerts you
don't need to hear because you are either stopped or moving slowly. By sensing
the RPMs of the
engine, IntelliMute knows that you are driving at a low speed and automatically
mutes all alerts (except for strobe signals from emergency vehicles). You must
first set an activation point for your engine's RPMs, and when the revs go below
that point, IntelliMute begins muting. Once set, the activation point is stored
IntelliMute Pro: IntelliMute Pro prevents detection by radar detector
detectors (RDDs), such as VG-2, Spectre I and Spectre IV+, when travelling at
slower speeds. When IntelliMute Pro is on, and engine RPMs are below the
IntelliMute Pro's activation point, the detector's radar detection circuits are
turned off to prevent detection by RDDs. In addition, no alerts will be given at
RPMs below the activation point.
8-Point Electronic Compass: The
XRS 9990 includes a 8-point electronic compass that automatically
provides an accurate direction reading.
SmartPower: The SmartPower
feature, when activated, puts the unit into Standby mode for about 15 minutes
after the car's engine has been turned off. After 30 minutes in Standby mode,
the unit will automatically shut off.
Car Battery Low Voltage Warning: In addition to displaying your
vehicle's electrical system voltage, the detector can provide a warning that the
battery is low so timely steps can be taken to correct the problem. The "Car
Battery Low" alert is triggered when the voltage drops below 11.9 volts.
Following the alert, the detector enters the SmartPower mode to avoid future
draining of your car battery.
External Speaker Jack: You can
connect an external speaker or earphone if the detector is to be used in an environment with
high ambient noise levels. A 2.5mm sub-mini jack is provided.
will get optimum performance from the detector if you mount it at a point
approximately in the center of the vehicle, as low as possible on the front
windshield without obstructing the view of the road to the front or rear. The
detector can be mounted in two ways:
- Dashboard Mount:
Using the supplied Velcro pad, you can attach the detector to the
Mount: The supplied windshield mount adheres the detector to the
windshield with two suction cups. The angle can be adjusted for best
Optional GPS Locator and AURA Database: The XRS 9990 is compatible with
the optional GPS Locator (Cobra part # RDA GPSL55) and AURA Camera and Driving
Hazard database. The GPS Locator simply plugs into the mini-USB port on the side
of the radar detector, and warns the driver of fixed speed and red light
cameras, speed traps, and dangerous intersections across North America. The AURA
database is updated daily and provides the industry's most complete and accurate
coverage and reliability. A subscription is required in addition to the purchase
of the GPS Locator.
