Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This item really put the finishing touches on my install. Really made it look quite profesional.

Pros: Fits and looks Great

Cons: None to think, did have to cut a few tabs off to get it to fit correctly but no big deal in the end.

Dash Navigation 081TOYPOCC Kit

Written By Anonymous, Knoxville, TN on Wednesday, October 29, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is much smaller than I expected. It is about half the length of the reciever. Furthermore the width and height are also less than I would expect. The opening itself is framed with about a quarter inch of plastic so it seems like they could easily make the opening larger. I ended up not using it because it would reduce functionality too much.

Cons: The entire product

good solution, but not perfect

Written By LA Matt, Los Angeles on Saturday, August 09, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Really like this kit. It turns a double-DIN into a single easily and provides some nice storage. If the bottom was a little more angled down toward the front of the car it would be perfect. As is, without a sticky pad, things tend to fly out.

Pros: Fits the space and makes it useful when converting to a smaller stereo

Cons: Too flat, things can fly out

Slippery

Written By goodblackdogs, auburn, CA on Saturday, August 02, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

2002 Tacoma double cab - I took out a double high factory unit and replaced it with a pioneer deck and this pocket. Fit was good. The only fix needed was that the pocket is slick plastic and things come out of it easily when the vehicle is stopping/starting. I suggest adding something with grip to the bottom surface, or at least the edge of the pocket to stop things, like a cell phone, from flying out,

Pros: fit

Cons: slippery

Single din pocket

Good solid single din pocket. Has textured front face and very sturdy build quality. Should actually fit in a variety of Japanese double din cars. I slightly modified this to use in my Honda Fit.

Pros: Solid construction & multiple screw holes.

Even though it was supposed to, the case did not fit over the radio. Waste of money, and installation time

Crutchfield response on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 The storage pocket should be installed below the new stereo, rather than above it. Our Tech Support team reached out to the customer to see if we can help. If it turns out that the pocket was not needed for the installation, then it can be returned for a refund.

Not as good as the original.

Written By MJ Proudfit, Quincy, IL on Saturday, April 12, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My installation was in a 95 Toyota Tercel. One side of the pocket came off while sliding the new stereo into the pocket/brackets assembly. I reattached it with some gorilla glue and a clamp. I ended up not using it anyway because it does not have a lip on the front edge to keep items from sliding out when you accelerate, which the original did.

Pros: Fills the gap if you are replacing a dual din with a single.

Cons: No lip on front edge

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this part on both of my 2 Toyota Camry's that I have. It looks great and you can also store small item in the cubby hole of the receiver kit, on one of my car's it took a while to get it to fit flush but it was probably due to the age of the car and condition that the interior is in but you can trim it down if you want too.

Pros: Great price

Cons: may take a little time to get it to fit perfectly

Worked OK

Written By Buckaroo, Columbus, OH on Sunday, January 05, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Used for install of Alpine CDE-143BT in my 2000 T4R SR5. Did what was intended. Only had one hole on each side match to mounting bracket rather than the two I'd hoped for. But - install turned out fine, Very secure.

Pros: Having a pre-defined option to handle Single vs Double DIN issue made the purchase decision much easier. Directions were good.

Cons: Holes did not match directly.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was part of the kit but I really did not need it. I was able to modify the existing parts to accommodate the new receiver.

Pros: Great to have as a precaution and inexpensive

Cons: I felt a little guilty about taking a part that I did not need

Good fit

Written By Don, Westminster, CA on Thursday, October 17, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This fit my 2000 toyota tacoma truck with minor issue. This is more of the limitation of the Toyota truck...but with this kit, you won't be able to install the bezel that came with the head unit. It won't fit. I called customer support and the guy told me I had to make the dash opening bigger to make the HU fit. I didn't want to do that so decided to install HU without bezel. I turned out great and does not leave any gaps.

Cons: Diagrams could have been better. I had to use the factory mounting clips to mount this kit. Diagram didn't help because it wasn't specific to my truck. Luckily I had the old mount to go off of. Otherwise, It would have taken longer to figure out how the kit would fit with my factory clips.

The in-dash receiver kit is a plastic box that takes up the hole space when you replace a big radio with a smaller radio. This plastic box fits like a glove, it is perfect to hold my phone while it is charging. It can also hold a small notepad if you wish.

Pros: Fits like a glove.

Cons: None.

Very easy to install in 1997 Toyota Avalon with a Sony head unit.

Cons: The factory pocket was deeper, and had a flip-down door. Kind of wish this one were more like that one.

Fits 2000 4Runner perfectly

Written By seavkk, woodinville, wa on Wednesday, September 11, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Fits my 4Runner 2000 perfectly. I replaced the double din stock stereo with a single DIN one and didn't like any of the kits you get from metra etc. Then found this. Don't get the other kits. Just get your stereo, a double DIN mount the stereo and this pocket fit into, wiring harness, connectors and this pocket and you are good for an install.

Pros: simple

Cons: Would be nice if it had protrusions on the front edge to prevent things from sliding out.

Written By Enno, Wilkesboro NC on Saturday, July 13, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The problem most people seemed to have with the holes the screws go into coming off didn't happen to me. It seems that is it is a solid piece and won't just fall apart

But it seems to stick out just a bit to far and makes it really hard for the trim piece on my Toyota to fit properly

Pros: better than a blank hole

Cons: Fit is not that great and it takes some work to get it to fit

Toyota single din mounting kit

Written By Mszamp, Wakefield ri on Sunday, June 16, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Kit works as specified, make sure you have all of the hardware that comes with your deck, you know you always have a screws or bits left over that would be used for other applications. I had a deck that I had purchased a while back for another vehicle, I took the deck back out when I sold it. I recently purchased a used tacoma for my daughter to drive, so I ordered this kit. It was great except for the fact that it required the use of the side mount screws that came with the deck, since I had purchased it a few years back, I did not have them, and they were not easy to find in the stores. All in all good quality kit, just make sure you have all deck hardware, you will need it.

Pros: Easy to install

Cons: Does not include mounting screws for deck, if you don't have them, might be a little bit of a pain, but not too bad.

Nice item

Written By John, East Stroudsburg, PA on Saturday, June 08, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Does a great job adapting a single-DIN radio to a double-DIN opening. Installed with no problem, except that the screws supplied by Crutchfield did not fit the screw holes of the Kenwood radio (nor did the original Toyota screws). I had to go to Home Depot for screws that would allow me to mount the Kenwood to the dash brackets. Would you believe that metric screws wouldn't fit...I wound up using 10-24x3/8!

Pros: Looks like it was factory-installed. As always, the Crutchfield instructions were invaluable.

Cons: Dash pocket should perhaps have a narrow slot in the back to allow for the routing of an iPod or USB control cable; that would make the pocket the ideal place to put your music player while driving. I considered drilling a hole myself, but couldn't bring myself to cut up a brand-new piece.

Written By James, Grand Junction, CO on Sunday, February 17, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This pocket fits and ultimately works in my Tacoma, but not without repairing first. This is a very basic "universal" pocket that Metra uses for many different vehicles. The mounting brackets are simply glued to the sides of the pocket depending on vehicle application. Mine arrived with one mounting bracket broken off due to poor gluing. I checked the strength of the other bracket, and sure enough, with a small tug it came off too. I ended up mixing up some epoxy and putting the brackets back on the pocket. Even for free I was a little disappointed.

Pros: Fits the vehicle

Cons: Very poor quality construction.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Wasn't happy to find I already had this in my car. It wasn't explained well by Crutchfield what this was. You don't need it if you already have a standard DIN radio in your car. It just pops up when you go to order your radio "you need this" I thought maybe it was a mounting system for the radio. It is just the pocket below it, that is already there in my car. Not worth sending this part back with $6 in shipping.

Great for the price

Written By Sonic Purity, Pasadena, CA on Tuesday, May 29, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Looks quite cheap when one looks at the back side, though the visible front side and interior look OK, which is all that is going to matter after installation. I might have been disappointed if i'd explicitly paid for this, but since it was free with the receiver (head unit), i can't complain. Mechanical integrity seems OK so far (nearly one month of use).

Pros: Effectively fills the empty space when a single-DIN receiver replaces a dual-DIN.

Cons: Build quality looks cheap and rushed, but at the price as long as it holds up, should be OK. Nothing fancy about it.

Served its purpose, but had a slight warp in the bottom edge after installation. Maybe a 1/2 - 1 mm gap as a result.

Pros: Bolted right up.

Cons: Slight deformation.

Nice Dash Pocket

Written By Scott, Indiana on Tuesday, May 15, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall a nice dash pocket. Fit in the dash really nicely. One of the sides popped off of the pocket during install when I joined the head unit/receiver to the pocket with screw. Must use care during the joining of these two since there can be uneven pressure put on the plastic...important to start each screw and then tighten each slowly and evenly on all four points. These sides appear to be glued to the pocket itself. I applied super glue and clamped it for a bit and it was good to go.

Pros: Low Price

Cons: Minor mishap with the install when one of the sides popped off.

great filler for the double din. if used on bottom location use 4 screws, if on top location use 2 screws.

Pros: great fit and look

Cons: needs anti-skid coating on inside so cell phone doesn't slide out.

Works in a 2nd Generation Tacoma (2000)!

Written By Dilan, CO on Monday, January 23, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The pocket fits but needs a small modification that is actually listed in the instructions. The two tiny tabs on top of the cubby near the opening need to be cut. Super simple as a pair of wire cutters will do the trick. The instructions are somewhat off for part of the installation. It states that you need to use screws to attach the bracket to the back holes. This is false... the bracket slips over the two recessed (smaller) screw holes. This secures the back part of the bracket. The to front screws mount fine. I used the stock screws instead of the one's the cubby comes with. All in all, makes for a professional look after the install. I do wish it had a textured surface as my junk slips out of the cubby. Some grip tape helped alleviate this problem.

Pros: Looks great and fits perfectly!

Cons: Installation instructions are a bit wrong regarding the screw holes towards the back. You don't need the screws. The bracket slips over the recessed holes on the cubby securing it just fine. Also, needs a "grippier" surface. The silky smooth surface allows things to slip out and fall too easily.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Receiver works exactly as imagined. Replaced stock front and rear speakers and deck at the same time. All I really wanted from the new deck was the USB and AUX input options. Happy everything works. Addition of dash pocket under new receiver is an added bonus! I'm glad pocket was included installation was pretty easy, it just took a little coaxing because of a screw that was rubbing the nut frame. Very clean flush look in 2000 Camry.

Wire harnesses saved a bunch of time, still have to make splices but provided instructions layed out everything very easy.

For speakers, I had to drill new mounting holes since stock Camry housing was prefab to the old speaker. Speakers work fine, perfect entry level speakers to replace stock. Note: Reading instructions I couldn't believe how quickly the deck installation went. Not counting the time it took to splice wire harnesses, I had the old deck out and new one in less than 10 minutes. (Wire harness splicing took another 10 minutes)

tight dash pocket for the toyota

the conners are a little tight to snap the factory trim back in place. But with a fine flat file to evenly remove each side of the dash pocket, it will fit wonderful.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Was provided with my stereo along with Wire harness and made the entire installation a snap. Plus this box provided a great place to mount the bluetooth microphone as I didn't want to run it all the way over and up to the visor if it worked here. It does very well. Keeps pens and air pressure reader.

Sturdy design, much better than you'd find in any universal kit. Looks great too! Unfortunately, I only have it set in without being screwed in for now until I can find factory stereo mounts for my '85 Toyota Supra, which were missing when I bought the car :(

High quality, easy to install, the only down was that the screws did not fit the stereo I bought so had to find some that would kind of work... other than that the instructions are easy to follow (Crutchfield gives you pictures so you can see it) awesome! and above all the quality is awesome compared to what you can get at your local big box stores...

Fit and Finish seems to be good for this pocket however the pocket needs to
be larger. My previous pocket allowed me to store my sunglass and eyeglass
case with a enough room to pull them out. I had to use my old pocket due to
this issue. Other than that it fits weill.
