Perfect sound. Discreet style. Premium construction. These are the standards that define Focal – and the reasons why listening to Focal speakers is an absolute pleasure. The Access line offers a marriage of performance and affordability, allowing you to experience the best in sound with a guilt-free conscience.
Take Focal sound to the next level with this Access Series 165AS3 component system, which includes two 6-3/4" woofers, two 3″ midrange drivers, two TN43 tweeters, and two external crossovers. The 3-way system offers a more robust sound by designating bass to the woofers and midrange frequencies to the 3" drivers. Coupled with a butyl rubber surround, the all-weather durability of the woven fiberglass cones ensures performance even in the hottest, most humid environments without distortion or warping.
Unlike a traditional raised dome tweeter, the aluminum inverted dome shape of the TN43 tweeter evenly disperses high frequencies, creating a very wide soundstage with fine resolution and exciting dynamics. Enhance stereo imaging by installing these tweeters exactly where you need them with included flush-mount hardware.
This system's external crossovers ensure a seamless distribution of frequencies to the woofer and tweeter, for a totally natural sound. A 3-position tweeter level adjustment allows you to customize your high frequencies and get them just the way you like them.
Installation note #1: We check the 6-3/4" woofers for fit in your factory speaker locations. You'll have to custom install the midrange speakers and tweeters.
Installation note #2: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.
A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.
Not near worth the money. I believe they would be fine if you could tone down the tweeter even more. If you turn up the volume they will make your ears bleed.
These speakers are simply amped off the deck at the moment, and usually speakers don't sound that great just powered off the deck, but these are incredible. They sound so amazing just off the deck, and I have the JL Audio HD600/4 ready to be put in to amp them all (plus the rear Focal 165AC I have in) HIGHLY recommend them. I've never been disappointed with Focal. They're incredible. If you're worried about jumping into a brand that you've never heard of, or don't know anything about, please take my word for it and know that these speakers are some of the best out there. I've compared the JL Audio C5 series right next to the 2014 Focal Access series, and Focal destroys them. Amazing look, incredible build quality, the kevlar cones just MAKE them. They completely the look of any car (if you see them). Unfortunately I can't really see any of mine, but I guess that's good because no one will steal them.
I just bought the JL Audio HD1200/1 , which will be amping 2 either Rockford Fosgate P3 Shallow 12" subs, 1 JL Audio 13.5" Shallow mount Sub, or 2 Kicker Comp RT 12" shallow subs.
Pros: Literally a direct fit! Made a little MDF plate for the door 6.5, and that was about it. The tweeter snapped into place right where the stock one was like it was made for it, and the 3" mid (with a slight modification to the stock bracket) was also a direct fit! Great sound quality, amazing performance even when they're at extremely high volumes. They're really hard to blow. TONS of mounting screw holes. Makes it REALLY easy to mount them in hard to fit locations. Great build quality.
Cons: For Focal? There are no cons. If I had to say SOMETHING that I didn't like about them...I guess it would be that the crossovers are a little on the big side, which makes them a little hard to hide places. I kind of wish it was like the Performance series and the crossovers were 4 pieces instead of 2, but it's definitely no big deal.

Cone Material: The Dual Fiberglass Structure Membrane (DFS) is a light, rigid, woven glass fiber woofer cone. The butyl rubber surround is resistant to ultraviolet rays, temperature extremes, and humidity to add to the speaker's reliability and longevity.
Basket: The woofer features an ABS basket reinforced with 20% fiberglass.
Voice Coil: The voice coil is wound around a 1" diameter low-mass Kapton former, ensuring no coil deformation.
Size Classification Note: Some manufacturers, including Focal, call this size speaker a 6-1/2". Because it requires a larger cutout than a standard 6-1/2" speaker, Crutchfield has traditionally referred to this size woofer as a 6-3/4". Please refer to the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to confirm fit in your vehicle.
Cone: Like the woofer, the midrange uses a DFS cone and butyl rubber surround.
Size: The midrange drivers are not a standard size, Focal calls them 3". They can be top or bottom mounted and have these dimensions:
Terminals: The inputs are quick slide terminals; 0.187" (+) and 0.110" (-).
Inverted Dome Tweeter: The tweeter is an inverted aluminum and magnesium dome, producing a broad sound stage. The tweeter has a Neodymium magnet to provide a powerful magnetic field for the voice coil, while still maintaining the tweeter's compact dimensions.
Mounting Options: The tweeter can be surface or flush mounted using the included adapters. Focal recommends flush mounting, but the included angled cup allows surface mounting at approximately 20° or approximately 40°. The top of the angle mount cup and the bottom of the flush mount cup can be combined to create another surface mount (non-angled).
Components: Focal uses audiophile grade polypropylene capacitors and air core inductors to ensure high definition and a dynamic sound quality.
Tweeter Level: You can adjust the output level of the tweeter on the crossover to -3 dB, 0 dB, or +3 dB.
Crossover Specs: The crossover uses 2nd order, 12 dB per octave high-pass, low-pass, and band-pass filters. The crossover points are 450 Hz and 3,500 Hz.
Wiring: The inputs and outputs are screw terminals; they will accept bare wire or spade connectors up to 0.3" wide.
|Flush Mount||Surface Mount||20° Surface Mount||40° Surface Mount|
|Depth||0.875"||0.667" (screw depth)||0.675" (screw depth)||0.675" (screw depth)|
