K2 Power speakers — engineered for superb sound

Side view of K2 Power speaker

At Focal, all that matters is music. Focal's sound gurus engage in intensive listening sessions as they design a new line of speakers, making it their mission to create products that deliver uncanny realism, sweeping dynamics, and breathtaking depth. During the hands-on production process, they test every model meticulously to ensure that they meet Focal's exacting standards.

Focal's "Power Hi-Fi" philosophy

The K2 Power 165KR 6-3/4" component speaker system bears the hallmarks of Focal's "Power Hi-Fi" philosophy. The nimble Aramid and glass-fiber woofers demonstrate the control needed to reproduce delicate classical passages, yet they'll handle the power needed to drive your bass-heavy music with authority. The sturdy zinc-aluminum alloy baskets are non-magnetic so they won't interfere with the speaker's own electronics.

Inverted dome tweeter design

Focal's inverted dome tweeter offers exceptional dispersion.

Inverted dome tweeter design

Focal's inverted dome tweeters act like little woofers, dispersing the highs in a wide pattern to create an exceptionally natural soundstage. K2 Power crossovers use hand-made components developed by Focal to deliver an ideal blend of the highs and lows for a dynamic stereo image. Three levels of tweeter and two levels of midrange control let you dial in the sound to your car's environment.

Note: Focal describes this model as a 6-1/2" speaker. Most manufacturers designate this same frame size as a 6-3/4" speaker. For simplicity's sake we list it as a 6-3/4" speaker.

Woofer cone construction

Unique construction creates a woofer that's light yet incredibly strong.

Why install component speakers?

A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.

ALMOST MADE IT

Written By SteveB, Bremerton, wa on Sunday, May 20, 2012

Installed these in a not so factory location on an 04 Subaru WRX paired with a MTX 400.1 Thunder amp (100X4) (75wRMS @ 2ohms) They sounded amazing at first, until one of the speakers blew out. At this price they are spendy to replace. Included crossover cuts low level a little too high for my taste and tuning with the head unit took a lot of time. There are components out there that sound almost as good for a fraction of the price.

Current stereo set up is Clarion Proaudio head unit, MTX 400.4 amp (doors) Focal 165KR components in front door, Focal 5.25 2-way rear doors, rockford fosgate t2500.1 amp with 12" T2 dual 2ohm subwoofer and fosgate 2 farrad capacitor.

Pros: Amazing sound when properly tuned

Cons: expensive to replace, giant magnets hard to fit in doors to still allow window to roll all the way down.

Best Speakers I've Ever Heard

Written By Vette Setter, Houston, TX on Wednesday, May 04, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I own a '08 Corvette convertible and was looking for a set of door speakers that would fit in my over the top stereo project. These Focal components are them. I needed clear sound all the way up to blisteringly loud because with the top down at 70 mph the factory Bose couldn't even be heard at full volume. These are the loudest clearest speakers I've ever heard. Well worth the money, above and beyond my expectations.

Phenomenial!

Written By ryan1764, Rockwall, TX on Thursday, June 24, 2010

I have these installed in my 96 Chevy Z71 and they are just spectacular! Crystal clear sound without any disortion or muddiness. I am running about 80 watts to them and they are super loud. They are the best sounding speakers i have ever heard or owned. I have had other high-end speakers and neither even come close to the sound of these Focals. Bass output is great for them being 6.5" speakers. Buy a pair, you won't regret it!

Dimensions

Woofer

K2 Cone: The woofer cone is a sandwich composite consisting of a foam core, a structural glass fiber bottom layer, and a Kevlar top layer. This combination of materials results in a rigid, light weight cone with excellent damping characteristics.

Surround: The butyl rubber surround is resistant to ultraviolet rays, temperature extremes, and humidity to add to the speaker's reliability and longevity.

Zamak Basket: The woofer features a cast Zamak basket. Zamak is a rigid alloy of Zinc, Aluminum, Magnesium, and Copper. Zamak is non-magnetic.

Voice Coil: The voice coil is wound around a 1" diameter low-mass Kapton former, ensuring no coil deformation.

Tweeter

Inverted Dome Tweeter: The tweeter is an inverted Kevlar dome, producing a broad sound stage. The tweeter has a Neodymium magnet to provide a powerful magnetic field for the voice coil, while still maintaining the tweeter's compact dimensions.

Mounting Options: The tweeter can be surface or flush mounted using the included adapters. Focal recommends flush mounting, but the included angled cup allows surface mounting at one of two angles; approximately 15° and approximately 40°.

Crossover

Components: Focal uses audiophile grade polypropylene capacitors and air core inductors to ensure high definition and a dynamic sound quality.

Tweeter Level: You can adjust the output level of the tweeter on the crossover to -6 dB, -3 dB, or 0 dB.

Midrange Level: Set the midrange output to High or Flat to match their position in the car. When the mids are installed low in the door, some of the output is absorbed by the upholstery and they benefit from the High output setting.

Crossover Slopes: The crossover uses 2nd order, 12 dB per octave low-pass and high-pass filters. The crossover frequency for both is 3,800 Hz.

Wiring: The inputs and outputs are screw terminals; they will accept bare wire or spade connectors up to 0.315" wide.
