At Focal, all that matters is music. Focal's sound gurus engage in intensive listening sessions as they design a new line of speakers, making it their mission to create products that deliver uncanny realism, sweeping dynamics, and breathtaking depth. During the hands-on production process, they test every model meticulously to ensure that they meet Focal's exacting standards.
The K2 Power 165KRX2 6-3/4" component speaker system bears the hallmarks of Focal's "Power Hi-Fi" philosophy. Nimble woofers made from Aramid and glass fibers demonstrate the control needed to reproduce delicate classical passages, yet they'll handle the power needed to drive your bass-heavy music with authority. The sturdy zinc-aluminum alloy baskets are non-magnetic so they won't interfere with the speaker's own electronics. And this 2-ohm system extracts maximum power from your stereo or amp so you'll get a little more punch from your system.
Focal's 2" inverted dome tweeters act like little woofers, dispersing the highs in a wide pattern to create an exceptionally natural soundstage. K2 Power crossovers use hand-made components developed by Focal to deliver an ideal blend of the highs and lows for a dynamic stereo image. The 165KRX2's crossover features three levels of tweeter control, a tweeter "slope softening" selector, and two levels of midrange control so you can dial in the sound to your car's environment.
Important Note: These Focal K2 Power speakers use a low impedance design to pull more power safely from your car stereo or amplifier. This design is compatible with virtually all factory and aftermarket stereos.
Note: Focal describes this model as a 6-1/2" speaker. Most manufacturers designate this same frame size as a 6-3/4" speaker. For simplicity's sake we list it as a 6-3/4" speaker.
Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.
A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.
When comes to component speakers, I have usually bought speakers in the $300 - $400 range. However, something seemed missing. I was skeptical if shelling out a ton of money on a set of Focal K2 Power 165KRX2 would make a noticeable difference. Let me tell you, it definitely did and I have not regrets with my purchase. These are definitely audiophile grade component speakers.... highly recommend.
I had the focal Polly glass, I sold them and got the krx2s. They do sound a lot different, more detailed, they are great sounding speakers. I only gave 4 stars because with some types of music they are very very bright! The bottom line is are they worth the extra 800 dollers compared to the Polly glass, imo absolutely not.
You are what you eat.
Same thing goes for these speakers. They need excellent quality clean power. In other words, you need to make sure your getting a premium class A or AB. AB class will be a lot more affordable and readily available. Excellent A class amplifiers are around $2k+. Premium AB amps will directly effect what the speaker will give you. Going full range class D can end up with tinny and maybe brighter, harsher music. More unnatural in a sense and more artificial. Yes it will sound great at first, but as you keep listening, you will start to feel like your music is missing something, like its starting to lack some life. AB amps will give you a more truer & warmer sound. A better amp with cleaner and higher power will give you a heck of a lot more dynamics. I went from a Alpine PDX amp to a Mosconi, and it was a night and day difference.
And seal and sound dampen those panels!! I'm not talking just a full dynamat, thats step one. You need that or equivalent, closed cell foam, and mass loaded vinyl. Sorta like Focals BAM sound dampener material. Its made of 3 layers.
That is all. Now rock on my fellow audiophiles.
Theres is not an accurate word to describe this speakers to their maximum. One things you'll notice off the bat, they are extremely accurate and clear. You'll will notice certain sounds you could never hear befor on the same tracks you've always listened to. Individual plucking of strings, the snap from the snare drum, the kicks from the percussions, the slightest slips of fingers on the strings, the artist taking a quick breath, even the brushing of cymbals come out extremely detailed. They are so acurate and so clean, you will be able to pick up where the audio masters made their mistakes. The woofer is pretty darn bassy and blends in perfectly with the tweeter. The tweeter is not overly exaggerated or too bright. It's sounds the way a true artist intended it to sound. They have a much broader response range than most tweeters out there and really shows in highly instrumental music. There is no listening fatigue. I'm am thoroughly impressed in all categories. If you thought other premium speakers of a lower class sound great, your ears will open up and grin when they hear these Focals. These components are truly a magnificent work of art.
I have been an audiophile for about 15 years. I'm very picky with my ausio tastes and I am disappointed easily. I had done a lot of research on these speakers and read a lot of promising reviews. Bottom line: If you want the best nowadays, you need to go with Focal. However, I could only find the entry level Focal speakers on demo at dealerships. The dealers wouldn't let me listen to the entry level models because they said that "It wouldn't be any comparison". After much contemplation, I invested the money for these speakers. When I opened the box I noticed extraordinary quality. No plastic on the tweeters, and they weigh about a pound a piece. The midranges are works of art in themselves. They weigh about 4 pound each. When I finally got the time to install them (with JL HD600/4 amp and Kenwood Excelon 994 HU) I was completely satisfied. Crisp clear highs, not brassy. The mids were punchy and accurate. Vocals were clear and lifelike. I could even figure out lyrics better from rockers that slur or alter their voice. They just outperform my expectations all the time. I get excited tp listen to music again. Now, are these speakers worth the money? If they are still performing several years down the road like this, then absolutely. So buy these, and don't worry about buying anything else again..... unless you buy another set.
I recently replaced my car and bought a whole new system for my new car, choosing initially JL audio c5 components and c2 coax rears running off of an alpine w505 HU and an alpine PDX-5 5 channel amp. The JLs sounded too laid back as they were the first silk dome tweeters I've ever owned. I switched again to the Focal VRs and liked the forwardness of the mids but noticed that these speakers, due to their efficiency, with music with more detail, often muddied the sound too much. So finally I bit the bullet and bought these speakers after listening to them against the Focal VRs and some boston Pro 60s. These had the better detail and clarity in the highs without being too harsh that I was looking for. I've had them installed now for about 3 weeks and they seem to have just opened up after some tweaks with the gains...The sound is pure awesome. Like I mentioned, very detailed/articulate sound that is crisp and crystal clear that is more on the warm natural side...almost to the level of my home theater speakers by B&W. The mids are good but probably not as deep as the boston's but if you have a sub, that's not a big deal if you crossover correctly. Anyway, these speakers are phenomenal and have alot of flexibility with the passive crossover like a few additional switches Focal gives you in the crossover(extreme highend freq settings, -12 or -18 slope for tweeters). They are expensive but worth the money if you are an audiophile and value SQ.
Well i bought these pair for a awsome price. I didn't expect it to sound soo diffrent from my Focal KF or my friends Focal KP. AN BOYYYY WAS I WRONG! These thing sounded completly diffrent. The tweeter that this baby comes with is sooo much smoother. You can hear the vocals, background music, and various other things so much clearer!!! These puppies are surely the latest an greatest Focals out there. So for the price thats a BArGIN!!!! You just gotta hear to beive the diffrence Focal makes from those other icky brands. Never going back to Boston , or JL,

K2 Cone: The woofer cone is a sandwich composite consisting of a foam core, a structural glass fiber bottom layer, and a Kevlar top layer. This combination of materials results in a rigid, light weight cone with excellent damping characteristics.
Surround: The butyl rubber surround is resistant to ultraviolet rays, temperature extremes, and humidity to add to the speaker's reliability and longevity.
Phase Plug: The bullet-shaped aluminum phase plug in the center of the woofer ensures a smooth, flat off-axis frequency response by preventing the high frequency sound waves emanating from one side of the cone from interfering with sound waves from the other side of the cone.
Zamak Basket: The woofer features a cast Zamak basket. Zamak is a rigid alloy of Zinc, Aluminum, Magnesium, and Copper. Zamak is non-magnetic.
Voice Coil: The voice coil is wound around a 1-9/16" diameter low-mass Kapton former, ensuring no coil deformation.
Inverted Dome Tweeter: The TN53K tweeter is an Aramid fiber inverted dome, producing a broad sound stage. The tweeter has a Neodymium magnet to provide a powerful magnetic field for the voice coil, while still maintaining the tweeter's compact dimensions. The dispersion is controlled by the twin radius wave guides to improve staging and directivity.
Mounting Options: The tweeter can be surface or flush mounted. Focal recommends flush mounting and the flush mount cup is built onto the tweeter housing. The included angled cup allows surface mounting at approximately 30°.
Components: Focal uses audiophile grade polypropylene capacitors and air core inductors to ensure high definition and a dynamic sound quality.
Tweeter Level: You can adjust the output level of the tweeter on the crossover to -6 dB, -3 dB, or 0 dB.
Midrange Level: Set the midrange output to High or Flat to match their position in the car. When the mids are installed low in the door, some of the output is absorbed by the upholstery and they benefit from the High output setting.
Crossover Slopes: The crossover allows slope adjustment of both the low-pass and high-pass filters. The woofer can be run full range and use its natural mechanical roll off, or be crossed over with a 12 dB per octave slope. The tweeter can be crossed over with a 12 dB or 18 dB per octave slope. The crossover frequency for both is 4,700 Hz.
Wiring: The inputs and outputs are screw terminals; they will accept bare wire or spade connectors up to 0.315" wide.
