K2 Power speakers — engineered for superb sound

Side view of K2 Power speaker

At Focal, all that matters is music. Focal's sound gurus engage in intensive listening sessions as they design a new line of speakers, making it their mission to create products that deliver uncanny realism, sweeping dynamics, and breathtaking depth. During the hands-on production process, they test every model meticulously to ensure that they meet Focal's exacting standards.

Focal's "Power Hi-Fi" philosophy

The K2 Power 165KRXS 6-3/4" component speaker system features nimble woofers made from Aramid and glass fibers that demonstrate the control needed to reproduce delicate classical passages, yet will handle the power needed to drive your bass-heavy music with authority. Best of all, the woofers measure a little over 2" deep so they'll fit in a wide range of vehicles. Non-magnetic zinc-aluminum alloy baskets won't interfere with the speaker's internal magnetic fields, so you enjoy even more accurate reproduction.

Inverted dome tweeter design

Inverted dome tweeter design

Focal's 2" inverted dome tweeters act like little woofers, dispersing the highs in a wide pattern to create an exceptionally natural soundstage. K2 Power crossovers use hand-made components developed by Focal to deliver an ideal blend of the highs and lows for a dynamic stereo image. The 165KRXS's crossover network features three levels of tweeter control, a high-frequency boost to improve definition, and two levels of midrange control so you can dial in the sound to your car's environment.

Note: Focal describes this model as a 6-1/2" speaker. Most manufacturers designate this same frame size as a 6-3/4" speaker. For simplicity's sake we list it as a 6-3/4" speaker.

Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

Why install component speakers?

A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.

Unbelievable sound quality

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was hesitant on the price but after going through 2 different very good sets of components unsatisfied, I tried the Focals. It's more than just sound; these things create an audible atmosphere. It's hard to explain the depth and quality. Everyone who has sat in the car since I installed have asked 'what's going on with your stereo?' It's strikingly high quality sound.

Pros: Absolutely excellent. Very high quality build.

Cons: Sometimes you get what you pay for and you have to pay a bit more. No cons.

I have these in my '05 GTO bring powered by a JL 500/5 I have a set of their coaxes for rear fill. They are pricey, but the sound is breathtaking. I'm also using the Sub P25 10" in a sealed enclosure. It's the nicest system I have ever owned. Spend your money on good drivers & clean power, the neon panels & painted consoles can wait.

Product Research

K2 Cone: The woofer cone is a CMKV sandwich composite consisting of Aramid fiber, foam, and structural glass fiber. This combination of materials results in a rigid, light weight cone with excellent damping characteristics.

Surround: The butyl rubber surround is resistant to ultraviolet rays, temperature extremes, and humidity to add to the speaker's reliability and longevity.

Aluminum Basket: The woofer features a cast aluminum basket, inherently rigid and non-magnetic.

Voice Coil: The voice coil is wound around a 1-1/4" diameter low-mass Kapton former, ensuring no coil deformation.

Inverted Dome Tweeter: The TN53K tweeter is an Aramid fiber inverted dome, producing a broad sound stage. The tweeter has a Neodymium magnet to provide a powerful magnetic field for the voice coil, while still maintaining the tweeter's compact dimensions. The dispersion is controlled by the twin radius wave guides to improve staging and directivity.

Mounting Options: The tweeter can be surface or flush mounted. Focal recommends flush mounting and the flush mount cup is built onto the tweeter housing. The included angled cup allows surface mounting at approximately 30°.

Components: Focal uses audiophile grade polypropylene capacitors and air core inductors to ensure high definition and a dynamic sound quality.

Tweeter Level: You can adjust the output level of the tweeter on the crossover to -6 dB, -3 dB, or 0 dB. There is also a switch (on/off) to boost the tweeter's extreme high frequencies.

Midrange Level: Set the midrange output to High or Flat to match their position in the car. When the mids are installed low in the door, some of the output is absorbed by the upholstery and they benefit from the High output setting. This High setting bypasses the low-pass crossover, using the woofers' natural mechanical roll off instead.

Crossover Slopes: The crossovers allow adjustment of the high-pass filter slope. The woofer can be run full range and use its natural mechanical roll off, or be crossed over with a 12 dB per octave slope. The tweeter can be crossed over with a 12 dB or 18 dB per octave slope. The crossover frequency is 3,800 Hz.

Wiring: The inputs and outputs are screw terminals; they will accept bare wire or spade connectors up to 0.315" wide.
