This sub's name gets straight to the point — Focal's K2 Power subwoofer delivers hard-hitting low end that combines realistic reproduction with competition-level sound pressure. Precision engineering and hand-assembled construction make this sub a sound choice for a high-performance bass system.

Powerful magnet
A massive multi-element magnet provides the backbone for the sub's powerful reputation — its circular array provides a uniform field across the entire width of the sub, driving the motor assembly with unerring precision. Focal anchors the K2 Power sub with a rugged zamak zinc alloy basket for dependable performance that won't get bent out of shape by your music.

3-layer cone
At the top end of the sub, a butyl rubber surround maintains control of the cone, even during deep excursion. Focal's unique composite sandwich cone employs a structural foam central core coated with a layer of Aramid fiber on the front and a glass layer on the back side. The three layers together form an incredibly rigid yet lightweight membrane for high-quality sound reproduction with the added emphasis of thunderous sound pressure.

Assembled and inspected by hand
You can feed the K2 Power 27 KX 11" subwoofer up to 300 watts RMS without fear. This 4-ohm sub works best in sealed enclosures to produce bass that's highly accurate and plenty forceful. Focal assembles each sub by hand and rigorously inspects them for any flaws to ensure your investment performs to the high sound standards they've set.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 225 and 450 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

What's a component sub and why would I want one?

A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

If you're looking for loud boom punch type base these are not for you. These are very accurate they blend really well with my focal front component set and sound really good. I had a pair of JL 10 W 6s I found myself only listening to a short list of albums or songs that sounded good on them or constantly adjusting the subwoofer settings on my deck depending on what I listen to. I have only had these focal subs installed for two days and so far everything sounds good it's like the base is very controlled or limited. I can play and album in turn it up loud and just let it play and not have to adjust the volume or settings. I think they're a little pricey and not real impressed with the build quality either and the packaging that comes in is like the cheapest thing they could come up with a subwoofer at this price, but I still give them five stars overall and I would buy them again.

Pros: They perform like a subwoofer should and sound really good.

Cons: They don't have the punch that JL does.

Dpek's description, above, also captures my experience with this sub. Buy a W7 if you're after more boom and SPL. Buy the Focal if you prefer detail in your music. An incredible component.

Cone separated

Written by: Nice from Miami, FL on February 26, 2011

The cone separated from the voice coil in 20 days and I was babying to break in. It looked like it had little glue bead. That part seemed weak. Must have been defective cause I have for over 5 years Focal K3 polykevlar 3 ways and they sound great and hold up. I returned the Focal sub for Alpine SWX.

Amazing Sound quality, tight and accurate

Written by: Dperk from Morris, IL on November 14, 2009

So i wanted to review these subs because reviews for them are few and far between. So i picked up a pair of these. I had a 12w6v2 in my car previous to owning these subs and i liked them, but they weren't tight enough, more of a boomy sound. Not to say they were bad quality, the JL is a great sub, but more for if you're looking for SPL rather than SQ. The Focals completely blew me away. I am amazed at how tight and accurate the bass notes are. They are not "boomy" at all, nice and punchy and very quick. These sound amazing on more genres of music than the JL did. The JL was more limited to Rap and R&B, These Focals can play ANYTHING. If you are looking at these you are obviously serious about quality bass, and i promise you, stick one or two of these in a sealed box and you will absolutely love them. My hunt for the perfect sub is over. I never seem to be content with my equipment but I think that may be over (as far as subs go). If you can afford them, you will not be dissapointed one bit. all i can say is amazing.

Features

K2 Composite Sandwich Membrane/Cone: The FOCAL K2 Power 27KX features a composite sandwich membrane/cone comprising of Kevlar, foam, and a Kevlar material structure that is rigid, yet light weight, and allows fast bass response without distortion. This cone structure features a thermoformed, structural foam central core, coated with an Aramid fiber layer on the front side and a glass layer on the back side. This hybrid technology significantly improves membrane rigidity without raising the weight and allows long coil, distortion free bass even at high levels. This composite sandwich membrane/cone design offers an extremely rigid structure, improves power handling (300 watts RMS/600 watts Peak), and has low distortion characteristics.

NBR Surround: The FOCAL K2 Power 27KX features a long-throw NBR (Nitrile Butyl Rubber) surround for long excursion, deep bass (35-1500Hz), and added durability to promote long life.

Copper Voice Coil: The FOCAL K2 Power 27KX features an edge-wound copper 1 layer/2.55" voice coil on a Kapton former (aluminum).

High-Performance Spider: The K2 Power 27KX features a high-performance spider with integrated braids to form one complete layer. This spider configuration eliminates wire fatigue, as well as wear-and-tear on the wire.

Multi-Ferrite Magnets: The K2 Power 27KX woofer utilizes six dual-stacked Ferrite magnets (12 total) to create a powerful magnetic field to help suppress compression and give better power handling. This Multi-Ferrite motor assembly allows for greater efficiency (88db), higher power handling capabilities, and natural cooling of the woofer's voice coil.

Die Cast (Zamak) Vented Basket: The FOCAL K2 Power 27KX features a vented die-cast Zamak basket which is a rigid, non-magnetic, and non-resonant frame that provides a strong, reliable structure for the woofer. The vented basket provides a self-regulated coil cooling system which allows air to flow freely preventing heat build-up and optimized reliability and performance consistency.

Spring-Posts: The FOCAL 11" woofer is equipped with a pair of nickel-plated spring-post speaker terminals for easy connection up to 10AWG wire.

Foam Gasket: The K2 Power 27KX comes supplied with a self-adhesive foam gasket mounting-ring for better chassis damping and to prevent air leakage.

Removable Cloth Cover: The K2 Power 27KX woofer comes with a cloth cover to protect the magnet from scratches or smudging during transport, handling, and installation. The cloth cover should be removed once the woofer is installed. The cloth cover is not designed to be placed on the woofer after it has been installed.
