About the Focal FD 1.350

Alexander H.

When size matters

You're putting a subwoofer in your vehicle, but you don't want to take up a lot of space. Focal's FD 1.350 amplifier delivers plenty of power from an astonishingly small chassis without compromising sound quality. This diminutive mono amplifier packs a respectable punch, driving a sub with up to 350 watts RMS even though it's the size of a small paperback book.

This diminutive mono amplifier packs a respectable punch, driving a sub with up to 350 watts RMS even though it's the size of a small paperback book.

No sacrifices

The amplifier offers the controls you need to tune your bass, including a low-pass crossover, switchable bass boost, and variable phase adjustment. And if you're keeping your factory radio, the amp comes with external audio transformers that automatically detect and convert the high-level signals from your speaker wires.

Cool under pressure

The FD 1.350 uses Direct FET Technology to dissipate heat efficiently from its aluminum chassis, ensuring long-term reliability. And speaking of saving space, you can stack this amp with its FD Series 2-channel or 4-channel siblings to power an entire system.

CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for measuring an amplifier's RMS power output. The criteria for measuring power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured into a 4Ω load, with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N), and over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers). CEA-2006 standards allow consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers under the same conditions (apples to apples). Using CEA-2006 criteria, the Focal FD 1.350 is rated at 210 watts RMS x 1 channel.

2Ω Stable: The amplifier can also support a 2Ω load; the 2Ω power output is 350 watts RMS x 1 channel.

Stackable: All the FD series amps (FD 1.350, FD 2.350, and FD 4.350) have the same footprint, and can be stacked on top of one another.

Speaker Level Input: An external speaker level input transformer is included, used when your source unit doesn't have RCA outputs. The transformer is connected to the amp with the included wiring harness. The transformer's dimensions are approximately:

  • Width: 2-3/8"
  • Height: 1-1/4"
  • Depth: 2" (3" including wiring)

Auto Turn-on: When using a speaker level input, the amp will turn on automatically when it senses the input signal.

Controls

Gain: To accommodate the varying range of signal levels from today's factory and aftermarket radios, the FD 1.350 features an adjustable gain control; 0.2-5.0 volts line level (RCA) and 0.4-10.0 volts speaker level.

Crossover: The built-in low-pass filter has a continuously variable crossover point; 40 Hz to 400 Hz. Because this is a subwoofer amp, the crossover is always engaged.

Phase: The output phase is continuously adjustable from 0° to 180°.

Bass Boost: The bass boost, centered at 50 Hz, can be set to 0 dB (flat), +3 dB, or +12 dB.

Connections

Power Connections: The power, ground, and turn-on connections are 0.3" wide screw terminals. A Phillips-head or flat blade screw driver (not supplied) is required to tighten/loosen the terminals. Crimp-on spade connectors are included for all three terminals.

Speaker Outputs: There are two pair of 0.3" wide screw terminal speaker outputs; they are internally wired in parallel, making it easy to connect two subwoofers. A Phillips-head or flat blade screw driver (not supplied) is required to tighten/loosen the terminals. Crimp-on spade connectors are included for two speakers.

Line Level Input: The line input is a pair of stereo RCA jacks.

Speaker Level Input: An external speaker level input transformer and wiring harnesses are included for the speaker level input.

Fuses: The amplifier uses two 15-amp mini blade-type fuses.

Customer Q&A

Q
How do you wire one speaker to this amp?

A
It's a mono (single channel) amplifier so, if it's a standard single voice coil speaker/subwoofer, you'll connect the positive to the positive and the negative to the negative. You'll find our subwoofer wiring diagrams in the "Learn" section of our website here: https://www.crutchfield.com/learn/learningcenter/car/subwoofers_wiring.html?g=500&tp=13 I hope that helps.
