Focal applies the same technology they use in their studio and audiophile-grade home systems to their Integration line of car speakers. The Integration IS 165 component system features 6-3/4" woofer cones made from Polyglass, a material that combines the warm sound of cellulose with the strength of glass, for a woofer that plays accurately with no added resonances.

Adjustable tweeter
The separate Integration processed aluminum inverted dome tweeter features a built-in phase plug and wave guide, which act together to increase the power of high-frequency notes and improve the stereo soundstage. You can also tilt the tweeter for better imaging in many vehicles.

Built-in crossover networks
The crossover networks are built-in, so you don't have those extra boxes to install. Integration speakers allow you to put Focal sound quality and construction into your vehicle, so you can enjoy a dramatic jump in performance over your old speakers.

Note: Focal describes this model as a 6-1/2" speaker. Most manufacturers designate this same frame size as a 6-3/4" speaker. For simplicity's sake we list it as a 6-3/4" speaker.

Product Highlights:

  • component speaker system includes two 6-3/4" woofers, 2 tweeters, and 2 woofer grilles
  • Polyglass woofer with butyl rubber surround
  • processed aluminum inverted dome tweeter
  • built-in crossovers
  • 4-ohm impedance
  • 5-70 watts RMS power range (140 watts peak)
  • frequency response: 60-20,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 92.6 dB

Why install component speakers?

A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.

2007 Toyota 4Runner
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First of all the install on a vehicle says a lot about the end result- I installed these in a 2007 4Runner in the front door location. I had picked up a set of the 2-way door speakers in the same line for another vehicle of mine and a set of the tweeters that are in this kit for another. I was highly impressed with both. Both sets were driven off of an Alpine 50x4 amp.

When I installed these I noticed the adapter bracket(factory had 6x9" mid-woofer in the front door) wasn't the sturdiest. After installing I found I lost a lot of low-mid which was opposite of what happened in the other vehicle. I pulled them and installed the 6x9 version of the kit and with a little factory speaker bracket mod it was sealed tight. The lower end came right back but everything from about 1250 - 4k hz disappeared. Frustrated I sat down with a dremel, glue gun and soldering iron and joined parts of the factory bracket with the Metra one with some bracing and baffles added to the IS165's and placed them back in the car. After a bit of tuning on the crossover and P.EQ I had the flattest-cleanest sound since my old IASCA days in the 90's and all for the sale price of $160 it was worth all the "trouble". The Aluminum inverted dome tweeter is crystal but a bit too tinny for my tastes - a single piece of silk between the tweeter and the factory grill fixed that. Most probably wouldn't notice. I wouldn't use with with less than 25 Watts and with 75- WOW, they s i n g

Pros: Flat response and crystal clear sound. An amp should be mandatory to really review them. Price was cool as well

Cons: Focal did great in every way- Metra failed miserably with the ill quality adaptor brackets.

For the lower end of FOCAL these were of the chart for sound quality . Just installed in my 2013 tundra crew max with art series PPI A100 and I was blown away with the clarity of this speaker . I ran MB Quartz on my old truck with same Amp and I would choose the FOCAl over the MB Quartz I was really skeptical how these would sound I was just wanted to up grade from the factory speakers that came with the truck . I just to thank Marshall from Crutchfield for the recommendation . Marshall you wanted to know how it would sound paired with the Polk audio speakers CRYSTAL CLEAR my friend . THANK YOU SO SO MUCH !!!

Pros: Best sound I've heard for the price.

Cons: None on this end . Only wish Toyota would've there speaker placement better would of love to move in size on the door speakers

Build in X-Over is great...

Hands down the best component speakers I've owned. Crisp, clean and great mid bass. Powering them with Focal 4100. I will most definitely recommend focal integration is 165. These speakers are installed in 1993 Trans am and location of speakers is not the best but these focals really bring up the sound to ear level, unbelievable. They can be loud if you want them to but at the right volume, these speakers will sing like a Bird. Can't say enough.

Excellent Budget Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are excellent speakers when on a budget or just adding to a stock or aftermarket head unit without external amps. This is my first experience with Focal speakers and for the price of these they sound great. These replaced MB Quart reference series speakers. For my setup these are temporary until I pick up a set of Focal K2's. I'm running a pioneer DEH-80PRS head, a JL Audio Slash 300/4 v3 amp, a JL Audio Slash 500/1 mono block, and a 10" JL W7 v2. These speakers have a hard time keeping up with the 300/4 and make a pop noise. Had to bring down the 80hZ bandwidth to clear it up. The listed max wattage on these is 70W and I'm feeding them 75W. They also sound a little too warm for my taste. Like I said, these are great for low to mid end systems and I'm over powering them. That's why I gave them 5 stars.

Pros: Easy install with built in crossovers Good Focal quality

Cons: They can't be tuned because of the lack of external crossovers(sound to warm) Should only be used on lower wattage systems.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Amazing speakers in my WRX. Tweeters didn't fit the stock housing (my bad for not properly looking at dimensions) but a little modification and they sing at head level. Hooked up to the alpine power pack to help a bit with power, and they are outstanding to me. I am no expert, but a fantastic speaker set for my use and not too 'bright' my ears.

Pros: Shallow mount, integrated crossover, quick and painless install

Cons: tweeter size (again my own fault)

Just purchased my second set for my Dodge Ram and I must say AMAZING! I am running two sets on a Kenwood 750.4 with a set of Re Audio Pro Subs and Re Audio 1000.0 amp. I would recommend these speakers highly.

Pros: Great clarity, awesome sound and all around great quality speaker.

Cons: None

1997 Toyota 4Runner front door installation

1997 Toyota 4Runner
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It has been over a decade since I have bought aftermarket speakers for a vehicle so I consulted with online Crutchfield advisor Ethan. He was very patient with me and recommended the Focal Integration IS 165 component set. After quick delivery and unboxing of the speakers, I was impressed with their construction and materials used. Instructions were a bit sparse (lots of iconography) so I consulted with Crutchfield's tech support about the tweeter wiring. They were prompt in clearing up my confusion! Thanks! Installation went rather smoothly. The woofer screw holes lined up close enough to get screws into the plastic factory speaker bracketing. The tweeters needed a bit more work, but I was made aware of this by Ethan during consultation. I used a drill, coping saw, and a dremel with a small drum sander to remove the factory tweeter grill and surface mount the tweeters into the resulting hole. Looks slick!

Power to these speakers is 25Wx2 @ <0.04%THD crossed over @ 90 Hz, I think they need more power though...

EQ wise: running them rather flat, only a slight boost to treble, but zero bass boost except for the head unit's loudness is applied.

Overall clarity of these speaker is superb. Yes, they could have more bass but since I am running a 2x12 JL audio sub with 200W so I can't complain.

Pros: Construction, materials, ease of install (shallow mount), sonic clarity. They are so sonically clear that I can't stream MP3's via bluetooth without hearing every imperfection introduced by the wireless transmission. Other formats like CD's and USB sound fantastic!

Cons: Seems like Focal removed the tweeter from an existing coaxial design for external mounting. Perhaps a conventional dust cap might move some more air, but then I am no acoustic engineer either.

These speakers sound really good in the front of my 1997 Chevy Truck. I imagine it will sound even better when I hook the tweeters up...I just need to figure out where I want to put them.

Pros: good quality sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are installed in an F150 ext cab running off of the factory head unit (no amp yet) and they sound 100% better than the stock speakers. They were a little work to install but well worth the time! Very excited to get the new head unit and amp.

Pros: Sounds great

Cons: None as of now

Nice and crisp crank the volume!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Put them into a cobalt coupe. Had to cut holes for the tweeters. They fit nicely beside my door handle. The sound is great never hear any fault in speakers even when cranked up. Not running on an amp but I could tell where the speakers could thump if they were. They are running on a pioneer 2400bt. Mid bass response as is, is very weak! After a slight break in period they fill in a little more.

Pros: Clear at all volume levels. Potential to thump with amp.

Cons: Not much Midbass response running on just head unit

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Like a lot of you guys, I bought these blindly, basically. With my experience with Focal's other car audio lines, as well as their home lines, I knew I couldn't go wrong. I'm glad I made that decision. You definitely cannot go wrong with purchasing these. I installed them in a G35, factory head unit to line output converter, to an Alpine PDX-5. Enjoy!

Pros: Clarity is phenomenal, punchy bass, and detailed mid bass

Cons: Wiring takes some creativity

Good but not great

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed them in the factory door location in my mr2 spyder. They sound better than stock but lack quality low midrange. I was expecting more from a higher end speaker. For the price there are better options. No I would not purchase again.

Pros: Okay sound and provide a shallow mount installation.

Cons: Center of speaker is solid as if it was part of a two way speaker. Maybe designed that way to sound better, but I'm not impressed. Low midrange is lacking. Will need to install other speakers to make up the difference. Expensive and overrated.

2012 Volkswagen Golf
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was psyched when I saw a pair of Focal speakers I could actually afford, but was a little put off by the internal crossovers, and the lack of reviews and info on these speakers. However, once I put them in, I was completely at ease with my purchase. They sound amazing right out of the box, clean, clear, and punchy. Because they have the internal crossovers, I am running a Sound Ordinance 75x4 channel amp, and powering each mid and tweeter with 75 clean watts. I am able to fully blend and balance the levels between the tweets and woofers, and with this much power, they really sparkle. I am looking forward to when they are broken in. I am running an Infinity Basslink in conjunction with the Focals, off of my factory headunit, and the sound is simply amazing. As an experiment, I was messing around with the bass boost on the amp while adjusting the woofer, and these put out so much clean bass, it was almost worth not getting a sub. While I would not recommend that for long term, I was impressed with the amount of bass they put out. The hard dome tweeters really bring out the snap in the high end, which is welcomed. Very impressed with these speakers, will definitely recommend Focals, and will have a hard time going back to another manufacturer. Thanks for offering these Crutchfield!!

Pros: Affordable, great sound, great quality, easy to install

Cons: None

Nissian Altima 2.5 S Door Installation

Installed these speakers in the factory 5/14" mounts and the tweeters on the door top triangle by window angled at the front seats. Connected to an JL Audio XD400. The sound quality is amazing. I am very pleased with the performance for the cost of these components. I recommend for replacing factory speakers as well.....

Pros: Great Value for Price

Cons: nothing

New Focal Integration IS 165

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are great. I needed a shallow pair for my rear passenger seats and these fit my specs. I have these powered up with a 4 channel sound ordnance amp and they produce amazing sound quality. The tweeters are crystal clear and get really loud. I cant turn my system up all the way because its way too loud. The woofers are great. Mids and lows of the subwoofer sound really good, but of course there not a big subwoofer so don't expect them to have too much bass. I have them packed with a 2x2 piece of dynamat and it seems to keep rattling down and gives me concentrated bass.

Polyglass Cone: The woofer cone has a cellulose pulp base and is coated with a uniform deposit of hollow glass microballs. The addition of the Polyglass layer significantly increases the cone's rigidity without adding much weight. This combination takes advantage of the accuracy and neutrality of the hard outer surface, but maintains the superior damping characteristics of the cellulose pulp.

Surround: The butyl rubber surround is resistant to ultraviolet rays, temperature extremes, and humidity to add to the speaker's reliability and longevity.

Inverted Dome Tweeter: The tweeter is an inverted aluminum dome, producing a broad sound stage. The tweeter has a Neodymium magnet to provide a powerful magnetic field for the voice coil, while still maintaining the tweeter's compact dimensions.

Mounting Options: The tweeters can be surface mounted and include two types of surface mount housings, one low profile and one angled:

Flush Mount Low Profile Surface Mount Angled Surface Mount
Mounting Height 0.292" 0.908" 1.935"
Mounting Depth 0.511" 0.885" (screw depth) 0.8" (screw depth)
Frame Diameter 1.886" N/A N/A
Cutout Diameter 1.677" N/A N/A
Width N/A 1.887" 1.892"
Surface Depth N/A 1.887" 2.865"

Crossovers: Each woofer and each tweeter has an integrated 6 dB/octave crossover. Because the woofer and tweeter crossovers are separate, the system can be bi-amped.

Note: No crossover point frequency specifications are provided.
