About the Focal Integration ISC 165

John Pollard

Audiophile-grade engineering

Focal applies the same technology they use in their studio and audiophile-grade home systems to their Integration line of car speakers. Their Integration ISC 165 6-1/2" speakers use cones made of Polyglass, a material that combines the warm sound of cellulose with the strength of glass, for a woofer that plays accurately with no added resonances.

Focal Integration ISC 165 6-3/4" 2-way car speakers

You can aim the tweeter for better high-frequency dispersion.

Adjustable tweeter

The Integration processed aluminum inverted dome tweeter features a built-in phase plug and wave guide, which act together to increase the power of high-frequency notes and improve the stereo soundstage. You can also tilt the tweeter for better imaging in many vehicles.

Integration speakers allow you to put Focal sound quality and construction into your vehicle without a lot of muss and fuss, so you can enjoy a dramatic jump in performance over your old speakers.

Grilles are not included; the factory grilles should be suitable for most applications.

Features

Polyglass Cone: The woofer cone has a cellulose pulp base and is coated with a uniform deposit of hollow glass microballs. The addition of the Polyglass layer significantly increases the cone's rigidity without adding much weight. This combination takes advantage of the accuracy and neutrality of the hard outer surface, but maintains the superior damping characteristics of the cellulose pulp.

Surround: The butyl rubber surround is resistant to ultraviolet rays, temperature extremes, and humidity to add to the speaker's reliability and longevity.

Voice Coil: The voice coil is wound around a 1" diameter low-mass Kapton former, ensuring no coil deformation.

Inverted Dome Tweeter: The tweeter is an inverted aluminum dome, producing a broad sound stage. The tweeter is angled and rotates on its post, so it can be pointed toward the listener.

Size Classification Note: Crutchfield has traditionally referred to this size speaker as a 6¾", while some manufacturers, including Focal, call it a 6½". Please enter your vehicle information to confirm fit.

Q
It states these speakers will fit in the front door of a 2015 Ford F-150 supercrew, but why not the rear doors?
geoffrey  May 09, 2019

Those speakers have a moutning height of .561" , and your vehicle has an available mounting height of 0.501... So, they are too tall.

I do not know. I drive a Honda Element and they fit both the front and rear door. You may want to use the chat and ask one of the Crutchfield experts.

Q
It says these do not fit a rear door on a 2013 Tacoma but assuming it should with a fit kit since other 6.5" speakers do. Any reason why it wont?
robert  Mar 20, 2019

A
Yes. We found them to be slightly too tall to fit under the available clearance of the factory speaker grills. For additional assistance and personalized recommendations, feel free to contact us directyl by phone or through our online chat service: https://www.crutchfield.com/support/ContactUs.aspx

The speakers come with screws and clips that attach to thin pressboard material commonly used on vehicle interiors. It does not come with electrical connectors that mate with those found on the speaker.

Q
I am considering buying theese speakers for a suburban. The stock stereo has been replaced with a pioneer 1330nex receiver, will this be enough to sufficiently drive the speakers or will the system need an amp?
benjamin hutson  Feb 13, 2018
1 answer
A
The integration series is designed to work from low power without an amp. I installed mine with only a pioneer nex4100 and they sound great even at high levels. I have no amp running them. They can handle an amp if I ever wanted to install one as well. I have removed low frequencies from them from the head unit as I have a power sub. I am not by any means a super high end audiophile type person but I just like to be able to hear all the sounds of my music and the vocals clearly and occasionally at very high volumes and these speakers were a great enabler of this.

Q
I have a 2000 e46 323ci. I replaced factory rear speakers with these. Headunit is a CDE-143BT. As I stream bluetooth music, the bass distorts past volume 28 (max is 35). Now I'm no expert but in the absence of an amp, if there is distortion, how will handle the additional power from the amp if I were to install one? Is this normal?
shaz  Sep 07, 2016

A
You shouldn't experience distortion unless you turn the volume too loud which drive the driver beyond its excursion limits. More power will provide better cone and voice coil control, but still can be run out it's excursion limit. If you need more bass, I suggest you add a sub-woffer to add more bass volume, but you cannot expect lot of bass from a 6 and 1/2 inch speakers. Remember the Focals are very very good speakers, but they can only handle up a certain sound volume. Hope this help you.
praseth  Sep 15, 2016
A
I typically keep my device one or two clicks below maximum to help with distortion. If your bass eq is set high that could possibly cause distortion. Are the speakers sealed or open air? I had a speaker break after 1 year and 3 months. Had the amp set for speaker impendance per JL recommendations with a flat eq with the high pass filter set at 80Hz.
brandan  Sep 08, 2016
A
The distortion is caused by the head unit excessive volume. With a amp installed the speakers will sound much better lowering the distortion factor of the head unit

Q
Are there speaker grills available?
kenneth  Feb 08, 2016
1 answer
A
Thanks for your question. Per manufacturer in this speaker set grilles are not included; factory grilles are appropriate for most installations. We would not have a grill specifically for this model. Hope that helps.
