Focal's Performance Series subwoofers deliver pure bass power so your music always hits strong and true. This Performance 12" sub features a light, tough poly cone and a self-regulating cooling system, so it'll perform reliably. A butyl rubber surround adds to the sub's strength, durability, and accuracy.

Efficient performance
With heavy ferrite magnets and 4-layer voice coils, it's no surprise this sub handles plenty of power — up to 250 watts RMS. The good sensitivity rating means your amp won't have to work so hard to drive this sub, so you'll get maximum wallop per watt. You can install this sub in a sealed box for tight, punchy bass, or in a ported enclosure for a little more boom.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 200 and 375 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

What's a component sub and why would I want one?

A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

I has a fix bit apprehensive about buying a subwoofer for this price especially from a brand like Focal which in all honesty is known for higher priced products. I really felt like I was taking a gamble. Well what I can tell you is that it paid off!! Sound quality is amazing. This subwoofer hits clean and hard. No bloat, no boom whatsoever. Also the build quality was very good (let's face it for the price I was expecting some cheap stamped steel basket pile of junk that I would be returning ASAP -I was totally wrong!!). I have this subwoofer placed in a 1.27 cubic inch sealed box, receiving 300 watts RMS from the bridged rear channel of a Rockford Fosgate Punch P600X4. This subwoofer takes it in stride. I was shocked at how this sub could play so accurate and clean. I figured once I played on some rap that this Subwoofer would run out of steam......I was wrong again!! This thing hits!!! Again no bloat, no boomieness. If I payed $300 for this sub I would have been impressed. Nobody believes I have just one 12" with "only" 300 watts going to it. Bottom line this subwoofer performs! Jazz, Rock, R&B whatever you throw at it, it takes in stride. I purchased this subwoofer for sound quality...... bottom line. I honestly didn't care how loud it was or how hard it hit, just something to go along with my Focal component set. AND THIS SUBWOOFER DELIVERS ON EVERY LEVEL!!!! Great job Focal! DONT LET THE PRICE FOOL YOU! GREAT SUBWOOFER!!!

Pros: Great sound quality. Accurate, clean, and hits pretty hard.

Cons: Haven't found any.

Good bang for buck

This thing is awesome. I have it in a sealed enclosure with 300 RMS. It's all I need. It has a little more bass than a single 10 and shakes all I need it to. Another good speaker from focal. I also have their IS 165 components and love them as well. They live up to the hype in my ears. I would buy this sub again in a heartbeat.

Pros: Can handle more power than rated if it's clean power. Solid sub

Cons: It would be nice to have a DVC but I could for more money.

I have to say my review may be a littler biased. I'd never really heard focal but the rep said they were good. I noticed hey were on sale so I tried them. I am a little disappointed because within 3 hours one of the subs blew. They sounded good but now one goes in and out and is blown. So I exchanged these for some infinity 1260's which will be here soon. So I have to say I was a little weary buying these in the first place because I couldn't find many reviews on them anywhere. Google -Amazon, etc. so I am switching them out. Never had a sub blow on me n I've had Mtx, jl audio, kicker, certain vega, none have blown on me. I was powering these with an alpine 500 watt amp so no idea how it blew maybe a faulty sub. But going with something little better known.

Pros: Good sound, seemed built good, look great,

Cons: Blew within 3 hours

This is A very good sounding subwoofer it is very musical and blends in very well with four Focal Polyglass speakers, I have this Focal sub running off a Rockford Fosgate T500-1bdcp with 364w RMS and it just slams this sub, Crisp and clear all day long.

Pros: Polypropylene woofer cone Butyl rubber woofer surround Spider decompression voice coil ventilation Frequency response: 35-500 Hz Sensitivity: 90.8 dB Tons of Clean Bass Can run up to four on my amp

Cons: None this sub makes my amp run easier and sounds just as good as my JL 12w3v3.

Customer Q&A

Crutchfield asked
Why did you buy this?

I've always had Focal speakers on my wish list, but they aren't cheap. When I saw these on sale, I couldn't pass them up. All the reviews are great, so I am expecting them to be well worth what I paid for them. [ Danen  Jan 16, 2016 ]
From doing some research, Focal is the best subwoofer you've never heard of. Especially at this price break, I couldn't not get it. [ Sonny K.  Dec 15, 2015 ]
