Focal Performance PS 130

Engineered for excellence

If you're looking for more than just replacement speakers, Focal's Performance Series speakers let the music speak for itself, providing transparent reproduction for all your recordings and listening pleasures. The PS 130 5-1/4" component system uses a lightweight, exceptionally rigid Polyglass cone in a sturdy frame to create accurate, richly-textured sound, whether played loud or soft.

Advanced tweeter

Focal brought some of their high-fidelity technology out of the studio and into your car with the Performance inverted dome tweeters. This technology results in wider dispersion and a higher frequency response, so you'll notice greater detail in the instruments and voices. Each tweeter features a built-in phase plug and wave guide, which act together to increase the power of high-frequency notes and improve the stereo soundstage.

Cool crossover network

Superior fidelity used to involve a bulky crossover network that was hard to install. Focal designed this Performance crossover network as two separate pieces, joined together when you take it out of the box. If space is an issue in your vehicle, you take them apart, then mount the high-pass crossover near the tweeter and the low-pass near the woofer, instead of having to mount one big crossover. You can also adjust the tweeter level and crossover point.

Technology that sounds like magic

Focal applies molten glass microballs onto cellulose pulp to create their Polyglass cones, combining the crisp response of the rigid glass layer with the warm sound of a paper cone. The aluminum tweeter has been similarly treated with a softer, more easily damped material that makes the treble distinct without sounding harsh. You can expect superior performance from these component speakers, whether you power them with a quality outboard amp or your car stereo.

Product Highlights:

  • component speaker system includes two 5-1/4" woofers, 2 tweeters, 2 crossovers, and 2 woofer grilles

  • separable crossovers with 3-level tweeter control and 3 tweeter crossover points selector
  • 4-ohm impedance
  • 5-60 watts RMS power range (120 watts peak)
  • frequency response: 80-20,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 90.9 dB
  • woofer top-mount depth: 2-1/4"

Why install component speakers?

A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.

Great focal quality for low price!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had very expensive focal speakers in my last truck, and I knew i wanted to go with focal again but not spend that much money. I was weary choosing these because of the price and figured the quality could not be as good as the higher end focals. I was wrong. Definitely glad I got these. High quality sound and sounds just as crisp and clear with high volume. Very happy with this choice

Pros: High quality speakers and tweeters for a very reasonable price

Cons: Havent found any yet

OMG

These speakers will bang! I had memphis and boston in my truck I replaced them with the focal ps 130s, the focal sound better and they get a lot louder. I have a rockford fosgate 400/4 on them and they don't distort. They are well worth the money.

Great Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These things are better than Bose or Boston or they are neck-and-neck. These speakers are great. They fit where I wanted to make them all look factory...easy install. Well except i had a 2 day binge trying to get some holes aligned...but that is another story. The speakers them selves sound so crispy it is incredible. And when i went to Focals website and saw how they are handmade I just went whooooosh! #Epic

Pros: Have you ever been to an Aerosmith concert? Me neither but I drive through one everyday to work.

Cons: Wish they were not so expensive....but the quality on these guys in unmatched...if you got the $$$ then these are your new toys. Harder to tune than the Focal PC130s

wow

Woofer

Polyglass Cone: The woofer cone has a cellulose pulp base and is coated with a uniform deposit of hollow glass microballs. The addition of the Polyglass layer significantly increases the cone's rigidity without adding much weight. This combination takes advantage of the accuracy and neutrality of the hard outer surface, but maintains the superior damping characteristics of the cellulose pulp.

Surround: The butyl rubber surround is resistant to ultraviolet rays, temperature extremes, and humidity to add to the speaker's reliability and longevity.

Phase Plug: The bullet-shaped phase plug in the center of the woofer ensures a smooth, flat off-axis frequency response by preventing the high frequency sound waves emanating from one side of the cone from interfering with sound waves from the other side of the cone.

Aluminum Basket: The woofer features a non-magnetic cast aluminum basket.

Tweeter

Inverted Dome Tweeter: The tweeter is an inverted aluminum dome, producing a broad sound stage. The tweeter has a Neodymium magnet to provide a powerful magnetic field for the voice coil, while still maintaining the tweeter's compact dimensions.

Mounting Options: The tweeters include two types of surface mount housings, one low profile and one angled:

Flush Mount Low Profile Surface Mount Angled Surface Mount
Mounting Height 0.292" 0.898" 1.948"
Mounting Depth 0.511" 0.875" (screw depth) 0.875" (screw depth)
Frame Diameter 1.886" N/A N/A
Cutout Diameter 1.677" N/A N/A
Width N/A 1.887" 1.894"
Surface Depth N/A 1.887" 2.865"

Crossover

Crossovers: Individual crossovers are included for each woofer and each tweeter. The crossovers can be mounted separately, docked in pairs, or all four crossovers docked together and mounted as one unit. The crossover inputs and outputs are screw terminals and will accept bare wire or spade connectors up to 0.31" wide. Because the woofer and tweeter crossovers are separate, and have separate inputs, the system can be bi-amped. The woofer crossover point is 3.5 kHz, all the crossover slopes are 6 dB/octave, and the tweeter crossovers offer two adjustments:

  • Tweeter Attenuation: set the tweeter output to -3dB, -6dB, or 0dB (no attenuation)
  • Tweeter Crossover Point: the tweeter crossovers also offer three crossover point options; 4 kHz, 4.5 kHz, and 5 kHz

Crossover Dimensions:

  • Length: 4"
  • Height: 1-1/4"
  • Width:
    • Individual: 2"
    • Pair: 4"
    • All four: 8"
