Eclipse

Our take on the Eclipse CD1000

Upgrade the factory sound system in your car with the CD1000 CD player from Eclipse. Not only does this stereo offer a sharp-looking, two-color LCD display to display system info, it also comes loaded with a powerful on-board amp for clear sound from all your recordings.

You can tweak the sound to your liking with the six tone curves, using the bass and treble controls to create a custom mix. Fire up the loudness setting for fuller sound. Have a larger system in mind? No problem. The CD1000 offers two sets of preamp outputs for your external amps and subs.

The CD1000 can play back discs loaded with MP3 and WMA files, so you can load up to 10 hours of your favorite digital music files onto a recordable CD and hit the road.

Features

MP3/WMA Playback: The Eclipse CD1000 can play MP3 and WMA files recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW discs in ISO 9660 Level 1 and 2, Joliet, and Romeo formats. Recommended bit rates for MP3 are 8-320 kbps, and the maximum bit rate for WMA files is 192 kbps. Variable bit rates can be used, however there will likely be a discrepancy in the time display. The receiver can recognize a total of 512 files, 200 folders, or 8 hierarchies. The receiver can show the names of albums and artists, and ID3 Tags for both MP3 and WMA.

CD Text: If a CD Text disc is inserted, the receiver will display the artist name, disc title and track title information.

Amp Gain: You can set the gain of the built-in amplifier to low power or high power.

Radio Band Switching: If you wish to take the receiver out of the country, the tuner frequencies and interval can be switched on any of four possible regions:

  • USA: 87.7-107.9 MHz (0.2 MHz step)
  • Asia (includes Europe): 87.5-108.0 MHz (0.05 MHz step)
  • Australia: 87.5-108.0 MHz (0.1 MHz step)
  • Latin America: 87.75-107.9 MHz (0.1 MHz step)

Tone Control: The bass can be adjusted +/-10dB at 100Hz. The treble can be adjusted +/-10dB at 10kHz.

Equalizer Mode: The CD1000 has an Equalizer Mode with 6 preset values of bass, treble, and loudness, according to the genre of music you're listening to. You can also store your own settings in the User Mode. The EQ presets have the following settings:

  • Sharp: Bass 0, Treble +03, Loudness Off
  • Soft: Bass +01, Treble +01, Loudness Off
  • Vocal: Bass -01, Treble -01, Loudness Off
  • Power: Bass +02, Treble +02, Loudness On
  • Beat: Bass 0, Treble +02, Loudness On
  • User: Bass 0, Treble 0, Loudness Off (stores user preferences)

Display Dimmer: You can manually dim the display if it is too bright during nighttime use.

Optional Remote Control: The CD1000 can be controlled by the optional RMC105 wireless remote control (item # 099RMC105).

Eclipse CD1000

Written By user99, 84010 on Saturday, January 26, 2008

bought this cd/mp3 player to replace the stock cassette player on toyota corolla '00. sounds considerably better than most stock stereos i listened to (at least on cheap cars). you can tell the difference even on the radio. cd and mp3 sound great too. it delivers rich detail, and also a little more power compared to the stock stereos. i think it is also great compared to other stereos you can buy for this price.

it was very easy to install (it comes with a free adapter for the car you have). i think it is a great choice for someone who wants to switch to a cd/mp3 player from their stock cassette player.

one drawback i noticed: the display is hard to see on a sunny day if you have sunglasses on as compared to the "positive" displays of stock stereos. but that is really a minor inconvenience and probably depends on how you install it.

nice head unit

Written By stoogefan, Tracy, California. on Saturday, October 27, 2007

This is a great little unit with excellent sound quality. The amp in this unit is quite powerful and drives my two blaupunkt overdrive 6x9's with no problem. This unit looks good and is easy to use and not crammed with a lot of buttons, just pretty much straight forward. I can turn the volume way up with no distortion. This unit seems to be made very well. The only draw back is the tuner, with a FM sensitivity rating of 11.3 db it dose not pick up stations really great but is just OK. I am surprised that Eclipse dose not have a better FM sensitivity rating.

Eclipse CD1000

Written By Oliver, McAllen, TX on Thursday, May 17, 2007

The best stereo for the price... you can compare any stereo with MP3 from that price, and you would not going to find the quality that Eclipse offers with the CD1000.

Amazing

Written By Fil, Chicago IL on Monday, June 05, 2006

This is a great headunit, especially for the price. I ordered it on Monday (Memorial Day) and it was waiting for me when I came home on Thrusday, the installation took longer than I expected because Acura decided to make the stock headunits for Integras a pain to get out. I got it out with a hammer and a screwdriver but I could have easily done it the right way if I had a longer socket extension; but yea it was well worth the $160 spent and I'd recomend it to anyone looking for a good headunit.

wish it had a midrange adjustment

Written By beedub, Kingston, ontario on Monday, May 15, 2006

A good unit but not as wholesome a sound as my previous stock cd player. overall it is a nice basic unit with a good warranty but it sadly needs a midrange adjustment. the speakers used to sound fine; now they are flat. (the "vocal" preset not being helpful either)

good basic unit but the shop will have to rewire and I will perhaps get a better model with that feature. bummer, I will have to take it back in, the shop didn''t wire it for the accessory key switch but when i pointed that omission out they offered to fix it. Will take more of my time at the shop though.

Surprisingly Good

Written By Brian, Wisconsin on Monday, March 20, 2006

My experience: I install custom stereo systems as a hobby and for profit, and upgrade systems for a specialty used-car dealer.

Application: Upgrade for 1993 Jeep Cherokee - with Kenwood KFC1329ie 5 1/4" speakers (front doors and rear ceiling).
A pleasantly surprising entry-level unit; I would place it on par with a similarly-priced Alpine (compare to Alpine CDE-9852). Unit looks great, knob and buttons feel solid. Excellent sound! With "Loudness" on, the Kenwoods gave excellent midbass and clear, powerful sound. 2 Preamp-outs a plus. Display clear and bright.

Cons: no auto-dim feature (can dim manually); remote control extra.

Very nice unit - great look, great sound; don't be afraid to buy this one. Excellent factory-replacement. Between this and the CDE-9852, the Alpine has a (non-motorized) flip-down face, this unit has one extra preamp out. I will definitely buy more of these Eclipse 1000's.

5 stars for the Kenwood speakers, too, grab them while they're on sale...
