A stylish way to stay on track

The BV9386NV DVD navigation receiver from Boss enhances your dash's appearance and makes you look like a genius for adding on-the-go guidance without spending a fortune. It's got a sweet 6.2" display, which provides accurate maps and directions across the entire United States. And you can dial up your favorite audio and video sources right through the user-friendly touchscreen. Got a phone with Bluetooth®? The BV9386NV also lets you make hands-free calls and stream audio from compatible devices.

Drive with confidence

This Boss receiver provides convenient guidance that'll easily complement your driving style. You'll get directions across all 50 states and Puerto Rico, and have access to six million points of interest when it's time for a pit stop. You'll hear actual street names at turns. Lane guidance ensures you'll be in the correct position for your next turn, and you can see realistic views of some highway signs for added assurance.

The BV9386NV's powered by iGO 8 navigation software, the standard in many factory navigation systems. iGO 8 offers rapid maps, spot-on directions, and a wide range of features to help you explore your surroundings.

Bluetooth calling and music streaming

The BV9386NV offers Bluetooth connectivity, so you'll be able to make and take calls using your compatible phone through the stereo. You can talk right through the built-in mic on the front panel, so your callers will hear you clearly. You can stream music from your smartphone, and control basic playback functions with the receiver's touchscreen.

Sound and vision

A composite A/V output lets you send movies or other video content to external video monitors, so you can keep the backseat crew entertained. A 10-band equalizer lets you tweak the audio settings to suit your tastes, and the full complement of preamp outputs includes a dedicated subwoofer out with low-pass filter and level control.

Jam on it

Bring your favorite CDs and DVDs on the road with you, including discs loaded with MP3 or WMA files. The receiver's front card slot accommodates your SD card loaded with jams for the long haul. A front USB input makes it easy to connect a thumb drive full of music, or you can jack a satellte radio tuner or other device into audio/video input.

A dedicated input on the rear panel accommodates an optional rear-view camera to let you get in and out of tight spaces more easily. Your passengers will appreciate the included wireless remote control which allows them to choose their favorite tunes from anywhere in the vehicle.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Excellent value for this full featured head unit, Charlie from tech was a great asset as well in sorting through my installation in an older vehicle that had been modified from its factory specs.

Good looking radio, but the reception is very poor and the back up camera works when it wants too. Have not been able to get the dvd player to work, yet. The sound quality is good and the cd player is ok.

Pros: Navigation and USB plug in

Cons: Bad reception and back up camera.

Boss BV9386NV functions slow on certain option. They all the options take a long time to load, and for example the CD player when when changing the tracks, take unusually long to load and I had the screen lock a few times especially with the GPS. Installation was a bit of a hassle, it would of been nice if the wiring interface was already pre-soldered as not not all cables on the diagrams matched, and the provided Dash Kit did not fit well either (to loose) I had to use the double-DIN one braking of the divider in the middle as that one fitted better. Other than that, the Boss BV9386NV is functioning well, the GPS is a bit hard to see but it does it's job, and the Bluetooth is good as my car did not originally come with Bluetooth.

This product has great features, but the cons are higher ranking on my list. The first being that it has an option to connect to the steering wheel comtrols, but yet a harness for this option is not available. Also it loads very slowly. My clock automatically sets it self back an hour every time I correct the time. There is also an annoying static sound when volume is blow 10. Even with adding extra ground. Not entirely impressed. Technical support was very helpful on the install..

Pros: Bluetooth, dvd, and touchscreen are my favorite details on this product.

Cons: Clock, steering wheel controls, static sound.

This unit is works great for the price! Was easy to install, fits in dash perfect with the supplied install kit. I have zero issues with radio reception, all the normal stations i listen to come in perfectly at all times. Gps works great, i mounted the antenna with double sided tape above radio in my dash and have no issues with signal at all. The bluetooth works great, im able to play pondora and control it from the unit, the calling works good, the only thing i see is i cant get my phonebook from it. Plays cd's and dvd's great and easy to use controls. Overall operation of it is a little twitchy at times but is within reason. For the price, this unit is great and i would recomend it to anyone, very happy with the purchase.

Pros: Every feature works good and as advertised.

The system installed easily and works perfectly. This system has a lot of features for the money. The sound is great, the GPS works well, our Android and iPhones connected easily, BT calls are clear, and the DVD/CD player works well. I am very pleased with this purchase. I did have to call Crutchfield once as I needed help in locating where to connect the Reverse wire of the system into my vehicle in order for the backup camera to automatically come on when the vehicle is put in reverse; they were able to tell me the location, block and pin of the wire that I needed.

Pros: Great features, easy to install, clear BT calls, touchscreen works well.

Cons: The only con is it is a little slow to load at power-up but after that it works very well.

Installed the Boss BV9386NV in my 2010 Frontier in about 3 hrs. Everything I needed was included and you need a magnifying glass to read the labels on the receiver harness. The trim kit was a perfect match but required some delicate trimming and shaving to get the unit to slide in. It was also necessary to remove the factory metal sleeve from the unit. I would pay $50 more for any unit at Crutchfield just for the phone support. They are awesome.

    Pros: Great phone support.

Cons: Not exactly a clean fit at 1st try. Manuals are not easy to comprehend.

I was looking for a low cost stereo to replace my factory stereo in a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. The install was relatively easy for a "modified fit". Had to cut out the bottom section of the bracket for the factory radio. After that, it was straight forward. Had to make a couple calls to Crutchfields tech support just to confirm a few things before I started cutting anything and they were very helpful. Navigation works great, bluetooth phone calling & music streaming works great too. I didn't want to spend a lot since this is not a vehicle I drive everyday. Just winter months and on long trips with the family. Gave me everything I was looking for and a very reasonable price.

Pros: Low cost but highly functional.

    Cons: None yet.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This radio is ok for the price. I have had three nav radios in the past and I can't say that anyone of them were great but this one is much slower than those. Also, the nav system does not seem to know the quickest routes. I recently took a 1000 miles road trip with it and the nav system would always route me a much longer route than Google. It was nice to have a GPS because I wasn't sure if I would have cell service everywhere I had to drive but it seemed to want to direct me to the largest city first and then to my destination.

    Pros: Easy install.

Cons: Very slow to initialize. Very slow to respond to touches. Touch screen doesn't seem to be calibrated correctly. GPS cable is very short. I had to run it through the dash, up the door jam and it still has to sit right by the passenger door. Not enough cord to run it back on the roof. Routing seems to take the longest route.

Great unit. Basic plug and play. Match the wires, soldered, and heat shrunk them. The dash kit wasn't an exact fit, and 2 minutes of modifications had it installed perfectly. Does take approximately 5 seconds to start up from the turn of the key, however I did not experience any lag or delay over 5 seconds (only for initial start up). Other than that, no problems, and works as advertised. I've had no issues with outdated maps, GPS works fine, Bluetooth auto connects to phone when I turn the key, sounds fine. Has an EQ built in and all functionality is up to par. Absolutely nothing bad to say.

Pros: Price is good compared to similar units.

    Cons: Not buying it sooner...

    2003 Hyundai Santa Fe
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A lot of capabilites built into a relatively inexpensive head unit. Installation instructions were not 100% accurate/helpful, had to "live and learn" with the wiring harness. On on side in the back the standard wiring harness adapter plugs in, on the other side you have a lot of audio/video RCA type connectors, none of which I used. I initially planned to build a harness for all of the connections "just in case" I decided to use them later without having to remove the unit, but A) I think there were about 12 cables, impossible to run all of these through my dash, just not enough room and B) Turns out it is relatively simple to remove the head unit from the dash, so should I decide to upgrade later it won't be that big of a deal. At T+4 wees the unit is working well and no issues. Easy to navigate and sounds great. No need to install with the Crutchfield-supplied level matcher (2003 Hyundai Santa Fe w/Monsoon system). I had already pre-wired it in, ended up tweaking all the channel levels all the way anyway (as if I had a direct connection from radio to amp), so just wasted some time and behind-the-dash space.

Pros: Easy to navigate menu, sound is very good and pretty powerful. Feature rich for the price.

Cons: Installation instructions leave a bit to be desired. At one point I was directed to tap a power wire into constant +12v supply, but radio functions fine without doing this so I taped it off instead. Had to call Crutchfield tech support twice as a couple of the wire labels are ambiguous. Tech support sent me in the right direction, but clearer instructions would have prevented this. Remote is covered with small buttons, I'm sure over time they will become familiar and easier to use.

    Terrible

Written by: Frank from Harrisonburg Virginia on June 17, 2015

Would give NO stars! Maps freeze constantly. Have to convert mp4's to ipod classic and if over 10mb get file not supported message. Map 'update' is for 2013 and if I want current maps, cost is between $65 and $75. Sometimes the streets show on the map, sometimes they don't. I exchanged the Jensen 7020 in for this one because the Jensen didn't announce street names, the Boss does. Thinking I went from the frying pan directly into the fire. Sorry for a bad review, but you asked for one, and I am being honest. The bluetooth sets up in seconds, but it too has problems. The phonebook .... Not in any order. names are not in alphabetical order, and trying to find a number is impossible as the unit will freeze up (again)! Don't know what to do as I am totally dissatisfied with the unit. I'll try it longer and see if I can overcome the aggravation, if not will have to upgrade to a $600-700 unit and pay Crutchfield another installation fee. Sigh!

Pros: It fits nicely. Like the looks of the screen.

Cons: Cannot get videos to play if over 10mb. Address book not in alphabetical order. Maps and unit freeze constantly. Map 'free' updates are 2013 and have to buy maps for current ones. When trying to get into settings, unit will freeze. Have to turn off and 'try again'.

The functionality is simple and the sound is far superior to the factory reciever. With all the features this reciever comes with it's hard to beat it's price. I am quite pleased with this purchase.

    Not a good system

Written by: CyBoRgSiEgE from Ohio on April 18, 2015

I bought this system for the backup camera and the GPS and neither were all that great. The camera is very hard to see during the day, no matter how bright the screen is. As for the GPS its out dated and to get an upgrade, they send you to a web site that tries to charge you for an update. It should have come with an update or atleast a way to get the update without cost, which it didn't. The GPS had alot of settings but none of them ever got me to my destination. It couldn't even find my house, I had to pinpoint it on the map, The GPS was off more than 9,300 addresses. There were so many little useless features that may have been ok if the GPS were workable. I am 98% dissatisfied with the system and if I could trade it in for a more accurate system, I surely would. Buy a better system people. You get what you pay fot, buy cheap and thats what you get, cheap system.

Pros: Were there any pro's? I guess the radio and CD/DVD player. If this is all your after in a double din receiver, then you got it

Cons: I was very dissatisfied of the backup camera, wasn't at all what I had thought backup camers should have been, easy to use and clearly viewed. It wasn't at all easy to use and clearly viewed. The only things good on this system is the AM/FM radio, CD/DVD player - will play movies with *.vob - DVD Video format. I wish I had bought a better (Brand Name) sterio.

Good overall choice especially for the price. only complaint is the nob for control is a little small and hard to grip.

Pros: Good sound. I added speakers too. Navigation works well. Overall looks are good in the car too. Recommend purchasing installation kit. Made the installation of the radio and wiring easy

Cons: Small nob that's hard to grip.

It worked somewhat ok, if thats the sterio your loking for.

Pros: Radio worked fine and I liked the huge radio frequency letters in yellow. The DVD player, use *.VOB - DVD Video to convert your online movies or they will not work.

Cons: The GPS was always way off. It would be nice if you would be allowed to put your own roads in for the destination your wanting. The backup camera was very fuzzy except in dim light, as a garage would have, but there wasn't a wide angle to let you know of someone comming from right or left. I bougtht it mainly for the GPS and camera. If this is what you're looking for, please get a better sterio and better camera (I selected the license plate camera).. A better sterio will be worth your whil

Sceptical at first, becuse the price was so cheap. but every thing works and the sound is great. my Toyota FJ Cruiser has a stock amplified subwofer that was not broken, but you could not hear it. After installing the Boss Stereo with 80 Watts a channel my subwoofer came to life. so i am not going to have to spend more money on a new sub. ..cant wait to install rear camera.

Pros: Great value, lot of power, has navigation system,. the SD card is awesome, 4 yr old daugter thinks its cool

Cons: It locks up sometimes when on the navigation, not a problem for me just hit the menu button and is working again

This is a terrible receive. It's constantly freezing, and as for the GPS, don't rely on it. Half of the time when you want to use the GPS feature, the entire receiver freezes for an extensive amount of time. Spend more money and just get a better quality receiver, this one is nothing but an utter disappointment.

Good receiver for the price. All of the features anyone would need incl. GPS. A little work and some dash cutting was needed to install. I really like the fact that I could put all of my music on a SD card which is hidden behind a cover. Pros: So many great features for the best price around, especially with all of the free install gear that comes with it. Cons: A little slow starting up but not a problem for me. Great receiver for the price. All of the features anyone could ask for that comes in very expensive models. I had a custom install in a 2001 Ford F150 SuperCrew so I didn't want to sink a lot of money into it in case I was unable to make it fit. A little work and some dash cutting and I have a nice looking install. My main reason for wanting this unit was for the back up camera so all the other features that came with it were a plus. I really like the fact that I could put all of my music on a SD card and not have a flash drive sticking out of the front.

For the money, and the amount of features, Not bad... I bought two of these units , 2005 Scion XA and 2007 Yaris, first car took about 2 hours to install, (note: trying to decide where to put the GPS antenna...Second car about an hour and fifteen minutes. All instructions provided, had to grind off one dimple on both brackets to make installation perfect..(not in instructions)

Pros: Works pretty good, NAV reminds you when exceding the speed limit, hands free call sound good, great facelift from the stock radio

Cons: you loose the stock external input jack . Thou the radio has one on the front face under a flimzy door that will eventually get broken

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this unit. It has features that you usually only find on 500 dollar plus units with better known name brands. The nav system is easy to use, the screen is very nice quality, and the sound quality is very good. I was a little skeptical about buying this receiver because of some of the negative feedback I saw on it, but overall I am pretty happy with the unit, and would recommend it to anybody who has a little bit of knowledge about installing their own stereos like I do.

Pros: Great feature set for such a low priced unit.

Cons: The remote battery was dead on arrival, and the instructions are lacking in detail about how to hook up the steering wheel controls, but crutchfield had the information readily available for me.

    Crutchfield didn't send the instructions

The unit seems to work pretty well. I've spent most of the day installing because Crutchfield didn't bother to send any installation instructions for the receiver, much less vehicle specific instructions. A person that had never installed an auto stereo system would be completely stuck. I called Crutchfield customer service this afternoon (7 hours ago) and they promised to email instructions right away...I'm still waiting for those. I'll spend tomorrow morning looking for a reverse light wire source inside my cab because I don't want to have to run a wire to the rear underneath of the truck. I would have had my wife purchase this Christmas gift from another on line retailer had I known there wouldn't be instructions supplied. I'm not impressed, Crutchfield.

Pros: Unit seems nice. I have everything working except for the reverse camera (which is the main reason I wanted this unit).

Cons: Crutchfield (lack of) customer support.

My newer car has both and I got so used to them and really missed them when driving the Z. Everything works well, the car is way cooler than before, and the Crutchfield tech support guys were great.

Pros: Low price, nice display, looks nice in the dash.

Cons: Its a pain to have to go through the NAV "Accept" disclaimer every time. Boot up is a little slow, especially if the back up cam is activated after starting, but this is not a big deal.

If your looking to make your car look a lot nicer, go with this product and you will not regret it. It has every feature that I was looking for and never had a problem and I spent less than $600 that my friend bought and he has had some problems

Pros: The price for the quality is the best pro. Excellent picture with a look as if it was manufactured that way.

Cons: I really only have one problem which isn't anything that serious. It takes about 2-4 seconds for the system to start up but for the price I paid, it is worth the wait

This is pretty much a slight better upgrade from a stock radio. Requires alot of work to get it to work properly and even then its not great. DVD/CD Player doesnt work at all. Contacted Boss and this is a common problem that they know about but don't seem to care. USB and A/V inputs from the front also don't work. Again Boss rep said "we know." As other reviews stated, it freezes constantly. Controls are not user friendly at all. Instructions are terrible. Luckily Crutchfield will supply with you with wire hook-up instructions. They are 1000 times better than what comes with this unit.

Its ok for the money. I did not buy from Crutchfield as another person stated but installed it in a jiffy. gps has some serious start up time everytime you start the vehicle and freezes a few times (at least for me in certain spots). bluetooth is ok also, not exactly the best but it works.

Pros: price, features it trys to offer

Cons: formatting movies to play on vcd, dvd, usb, and sd. its low quality divx/mp4. sound: no bass/treble control. but does have preset eq with manual (user) control, unfortunately not all music sound the same and you have to manually adjust the eq to get bass distortion out if the music has lots of bass. brightness control, you have to manually control it. more so late at night or early morning, it's too bright and when sun comes out its too dark. usb port gets in the way if you have it plugged in

I decided to purchase this double din HeadUnit b/c of the price and it pretty much offers everything I wanted. Navigation, BackUp camera ready, Bluetooth, EQ ( makes a difference ) DVD, USB & AUX input along with A/V Input at rear. I cant complain. I even love installing it. Just do your research and figure out what you want and what you want to add in your H/U. I wanted a BackUp camera and I dont wanted external or addition LCD monitors for thieves to have an excuse to grab and steal my stuff. Comes with remote whichbis very cool and handy, since I have no Steering Wheel Control. And the Navigation part- I must say its very nice feature to have! Easy to update( thru your PC. You will need a USB adapter for it to update your maps from the micro SD card. That is why I'm giving 5 stars for the inexpensive and great product! NO REGRETS HERE :)

Pros: If you are having someone to install it...then you are not saving money!!! The tech support and advisors are great help, use it and you will be satisfied with your well money spent.

Cons: 20-30 seconds to boot up the navigation only but EVERYTHING ELSE IS AWESOME!!!

It's okay. But for the price, I suppose it's a matter of you get what you pay for. The supplied wiring instructions don't tell you that the P ANT wire needs to be connected to power the internal receiver's antenna amplifier. The blue & blue/while wires need to be connected or radio reception will be marginal at best. The Nav system works okay, but does occasionally "lock". There's no indication that you are moving and screen becomes non-responsive. Wait it out a few mins and it will snap back to your location with all features restored.

    Pros: Fits and looks great.

Cons: Instructions don't tell you to connect the power antenna blue & blue/white leads. Nav system locks up for minutes at a time before locking onto sat again.

This thing is awesome for the price. I paid for it at Frys Electronics and purchased the install adapters here. The navigation works great, it has built in steering wheel controls that needs NO adapters, you just need to tap into your cars steering wheel control wire(s). Unfortunately it has no instructions on how to do that, but I figured it out. I LOVE the 10 band EQ. It plays DVD (even burnt ones) just fine. The bluetooth audio works just fine, the radio is okay. The way to tune the radio is a little clunky. It has easy to use subwoofer control. My biggest complaint is that it's a tiny bit slow to turn on and connect to your phone, and VERY slow to start up the navigation software. Like 25 seconds until you can finally use it. My favorite thing is that I can change tracks in Spotify (on my phone) with my steering wheel.

Pros: -Tons of features at a low cost -10 band EQ -Built in steering wheel controls -No adapters or extra cost for navigation to work

Cons: -Slow startup time for navigation -Some of the user interface is clunky -Little to no instructions for wiring -It's a little quiet compared to my stock radio

    Touchscreen + Remote Features

6.2" Touchscreen Display: The Boss BV9386NV navigation receiver features a fixed 6.2" widescreen touchscreen LCD monitor. The screen has a resolution of 800 RGB x 480 with 1,152,000 total pixels. This unit has touchscreen controls with interactive video graphics, making menu navigation easy.

Start Up Time: The Boss BV9386NV has a start up time of approximately 10.5 seconds from Off to an AV Source screen, and a start up time of 29.5 seconds from Off to the Navigation Menu.

Hard-Key Controls: In addition to the unit's LCD touchscreen controls, the BV9386NV also features hard-key controls on the left edge of the screen (including a 3-way rotary audio control).

12/24 Hour Clock: You can set the unit to display a 12 or 24 hour clock. The clock is visible from any source.

Parking Brake Detection: To prevent the display of video while the vehicle is in motion, the green wire within the harness must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. You cannot view video unless your vehicle's parking brake is engaged. If you attempt to view video without the parking brake engaged, you will get a blank screen. While your vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the head unit's menu screens/settings, source information, metadata, and the navigation on-screen map.

2-DIN Chassis: The BV9386NV has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double-DIN"), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets, or Euro-mounted using the supplied mounting sleeve. As always, please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to verify fit with your vehicle.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The BV9386NV offers built-in steering wheel remote compatibility with select non-CAN Bus Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Subaru, and Suzuki vehicles.

Note: This unit is not compatible with external steering wheel control interfaces.

IR Remote: The BV9386NV includes a 44-button IR remote control for wireless operation of the navigation receiver.

    Onboard Navigation

iGO8 & TomTom Navigation Software: The Boss BV9386NV offers a comprehensive map database from TomTom covering the entire United States (including Alaska & Hawaii), Puerto Rico, and Canada. Navigation data is stored on the unit's preloaded 4GB microSD-card for quick access and response. The BV9386NV's integrated iGO8 navigation software provides turn-by-turn visual and voice assistance to direct you to your selected destination. The built-in software quickly calculates step-by-step directions to any destination available on the included navigation map.

Note: Car navigation maps are frequently updated. While this database was judged to be as accurate as possible at the time of its release, a map database can never be 100% accurate. Road information that is maintained in the map databases, such as turn restrictions or road names may change over time.

Map Updates: It is easy to keep the navigation system up to date. Simply purchase & download new map data from the naviextras.com online portal, store the updated map data on a microSD card, and insert it into the Boss BV9386NV via the front-panel microSD card slot.

GPS (Global Position System): The built-in iGO8 navigation software helps you find your way to your destination with an integrated GPS receiver & external GPS antenna. The GPS antenna is designed to be installed on your dash inside the vehicle. The iGO8 navigation software uses Global Position System (GPS) satellites, and a digital roadway map database to calculate and display vehicle positioning and travel direction. The built-in navigation software considers vehicle speed an heading changes, together with longitude and latitude information, to accurately determine vehicle heading and position on a digital map. Signal from GPS satellites are used to determine the vehicle location.

On-Screen Map: The unit's on-screen map shows your vehicle's current position (a dark blue arrow by default), the recommended route (an orange line), the surrounding map area, and your destination as a checkered flag. The on-screen map shows streets, roads, and highways in a way that is similar to how a paper road map show them. A road's width and colors corresponds to their importance, so you can easily tell a freeway from a small street. When navigating a route, the top section of the map screen shows information about your next route maneuver and the next street or the next city/town. When approaching a turn, the map screen will zoom in and raise the view angle to let you easily recognize your maneuver at the next junction. If the next turn is at a distance, it will zoom out and lower the view angle to be flat so you can see the road in front of you.

    • 2D/3D Map Mode: The BV9386NV allows you to view its on-screen map in a 2D (two-dimensional) or 3D (three-dimensional) view. Similar to paper road maps, the 2D mode, shows you streets, roads, and elevation by color. In 3D mode, you can see the altitude and elevations differences. You can distinguish between valleys, mountains, and elevated roads. In selected cities 3D landmarks and 3D buildings are also displayed.
    • Color Mode: The navigation map screen uses different color themes (Day/Night) during the day and during the night for both the map and the menu screen. Daytime colors are similar to paper road maps, and the menus are bright. The nigh color themes use dark colors for large objects to keep the average brightness of the screen low.

Lane Information & Signposts: The Boss BV9386NV's navigation map offers helpful lane information & signpost guidance.

    • Lane Information: When navigation on multilane roads, it is important to take the appropriate lane in order to follow the recommended route. If lane information is available in the map data, the map screen will display the lanes and their directions using small arrows at the bottom of the map. High lighted arrows represent the lanes you need to take.
    • Signposts: Where additional information is available, signposts substitute arrows. Signposts are displayed at the top of the map. The color and style of the signposts are similar to the real ones you can see above the road or by the roadside, They show the available destinations and the number of the road the lane leads to.

Audible Alerts: The Boss BV9386NV offers various audible alerts and functions to help you get to your destination safely.

    • Voice Guidance (Text-to-Speech): In addition to graphic directions, the BV9386NV provides voice guidance and turn-by-turn directions. The volume of the voice prompts can be increased with increases in speed to overcome road noise. Voice guidance can be turned off if you prefer.
    • Safety Alert: This function can warn you when you approach road safety cameras, school zones, or railroad crossings (if available). You can also add your own alert points. Beeps or the spoken type of alert will be heard when you are approaching of these points.
    • Speed Limit Warning: Some maps may contain information about the speed limits of certain road segments. The BV9386NV provides an audible warning if you exceed the recommended speed limit.
Note: When driving at high speed, the noise in the car may be too loud to clearly hear the voice guidance and other sounds. Using Dynamic Volume you can instruct IGO 8 to increase the volume when your speed exceeds a certain minimum, and reach its highest volume at the given maximum speed. The unit will mute the audio of the other sources during navigation voice-prompts.

Destination Search: The Destination Search menu gives you many different ways to choose your destination. An on-screen keyboard appears to allow you to enter your destination from one of the following categories:

    Destination Search Description
Find on Map Search for a destination by scrolling the map display.
Find Address Enter full/partial address, or Search for a city (central location), or Search for the intersection of two roads.
Find POI Search for points-of-interest (POIs) near your current location, in a specific city, along your current route, or near your destination. You can search by name of place or by category.
Favorites Store your favorite locations for easy recall, like your home or work address.
History Destinations that you have set previously
Coordinates Allows you to search your destination by longitude and latitude values.

Route Calculation: The Boss BV9386NV calculates your route based on your Vehicle Type, Route Method, and Avoidances.

    • Vehicle Type: You select what type of vehicle you are driving, so the navigation unit can determine the best route based on your vehicle type (Car, Truck, Emergency, Bus, or Taxi).
    • Route Method: You can choose which route method (Fastest, Shortest, Economical, or Easy) the navigation unit should use when calculating your route.
      • Fastest: give a quick route, if you can travel at or near the speed limit on all roads. Usually the best section for fast and normal cars
      • Shortest: gives a route that has the smallest total distance of all possible routes. It can be practical for slow vehicles
      • Economical: combines the benefits of Fast and Short; calculates as if it were calculating the Fast route, but it takes other roads as well to save fuel
      • Easy: results in a route with fewer turns and no difficult maneuvers
    • Avoidances: You can tell the navigation unit to avoid certain types of roads along your calculated route, such as - Highways, Tolls, Carpool/HOV, Unpaved Roads, and/or Ferries.

Itinerary w/ Route Simulation: The Itinerary page displays turn-by-turn instructions for your entire route and the distance between turns. You can preview all the route information and simulate travel along a projected route.

Auto Reroute: If you depart from the original route, the navigation system recalculates the route and provides new directions.

Trip Monitor: The Trip Monitor contains useful information about your trip. This information can be saved manually when you reach your destination or automatically along your route. Trip log data includes; Start/End Time, Avg./Max. Speed, Total/Driving/Stopped Time, Total Distance, and Min./Max. Altitude.

Safety Mode: Safety Mode disables the touchscreen above 6 mph to keep your attention on the road.

The BV9386NV allows you to carry on the phone conversation using the head unit's integrated microphone and your car audio speakers. Your music will mute automatically during a call. Yes [ WILLIAM B  Jun 22, 2015 ]
    Yes [ DEVIN G  Jun 22, 2015 ]
It does give Turn by Turn direction but it does not mention street name. I also want you to know that It does have Blue Tooth but you need to use phone to answer call. Once you did that then you talk hands free. It is great except this issue. [ DIPIKA  Jun 22, 2015 ]
I don't know, my car had built in amps that I used. It didn't require wiring separately, I used a plug and play adaptor. [ James Bryan  May 22, 2015 ]
I believe the blue wire is for the amplifier....... WARNING...... I am very upset with the quailty of this radio after owning it for sometime now. The syestem has "locking up" problems and I am gettting no support through their website. WOULDN'T BUY THIS AGAIN!!!!! [ Chris  May 22, 2015 ]
    Yes [ WILLIAM B  Apr 11, 2015 ]
    Yes [ hyeson  Apr 08, 2015 ]
    Yes [ Jose A.  Apr 07, 2015 ]
Yes, you can but there is a problem in receiving call. Even GPS is not on, you will hear ring for incoming call on Bluetooth but you would need to use your phone to receive phone. Once that is done, you can talk hands free using Bluetooth. I had called Clutchfield and manufacturer about it but they say "that's the way it works." I like setting in GPS where it alerts "You are over the speed limit" [ DIPIKA  Apr 07, 2015 ]
when you receive a call the screen will go to the call screen and you can not view the map until the call is ended. Big dislike on my end!!! Also have been having some issues with the navigation locking up. I will try to get with the vendor to work out issue. Hope this helps [ Chris  Apr 07, 2015 ]
Yes you can make and recieve Bluetooth calls.. [ greg  Apr 07, 2015 ]
Yes. Just a heads up though, the system sometimes freezes if you tell it to do too many things at once. For example, I found that I first have to get my Bluetooth connected, wait a bit, then start the navigation. If I skip the 'wait a bit' part, it will likely freeze and I either have to wait for it to catch up or restart the radio. [ Gina  Apr 07, 2015 ]
Essentially the navigation just pauses and then starts when the call is hung [ Madison  Apr 07, 2015 ]
I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They should be able to help answer your question. [ Jeff  Mar 25, 2015 ]  Staff
Yes this unit is SIRIUS ready provided you have a tuner. [ MICHAEL  Feb 14, 2015 ]
No this radio is not Sirius ready as it comes. [ Braden  Feb 11, 2015 ]
It is not sirius ready however there is an aux in audio cable that you can use from the sirius unit. I have an in car sirius attached that was an it works great. No static what so ever!!! [ TheCactusjac7  Feb 10, 2015 ]
Its not sirius ready [ Marian  Feb 10, 2015 ]
I am not sure if it will show the AC controls. I don't have that on the car I put it in, but I don't believe it would. The steering wheel buttons will work, but only if you know which wires under the dash are for your steering wheel controls as they require that you splice into those wires. [ hyeson  Jan 17, 2015 ]
I don't think your A/C control will show on the radio. The steering wheel audio controls should still work. I have had pretty good luck with the radio, but it will throw an error code and just reboot itself from time to time. This will happen when it is just on the radio or when the GPS is running. It's a real problem when a turn is coming up and you are in an area you do not know. [ James Bryan  Jan 15, 2015 ]
May require an adapter for the steering wheel volume control. Some vehicles will not require it. The installation literature will tell you how to find out. I am not sure about your charger question. [ WILLIAM B  Jan 15, 2015 ]
No, it will not show A/C control. You would need to pay extra to installer to have steering control. Bad part for this unit is that it has bluetooth but when phone rings, you have to pull phone to answer then you can speak through bluetooth. [ DIPIKA  Jan 15, 2015 ]
I'm not sure about the a/c controls. However, I do know that you can hook up your steering controls. its just a couple extra wires. [ Robert  Jan 15, 2015 ]
It will not show your AC controls. If you connect the steering wheel control wire to the factory harness and program it, the controls will work. [ DEVIN G  Jan 15, 2015 ]
No on showing the A/C control and even though my case of the steering wheel controls wasn't needed for me, I was thinking that when I bough mine this was not a opition. Hope this helps!! [ Chris  Jan 15, 2015 ]
For details on fit or installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on if this will fit and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle. [ Jeff  Dec 26, 2014 ]  Staff
I am experiencing the same issues with mine. It's not often but it occasionally does. I don't havea solution to the problem but if you do find something out I'd appreciate if you passed it along. [ Braden  Dec 11, 2014 ]
I haven't had that problem unless I shut it own during a trip it seems to take a while to return to where you are on the trip. [ Dennis  Dec 04, 2014 ]
I have the same problem. I can do nothing but wait until it recovers. [ Yongjian  Dec 04, 2014 ]
Yes. Not sure about radio but my SD audio plays just fine. [ Tyler  Dec 02, 2014 ]
Yes, it does play music while the navigation is on. The music will turn down when the navigation needs to tell you to turn. [ hyeson  Dec 01, 2014 ]
Yes it does. It will also lower the volume when it gives directions, then turn the volume back up. I have to say, it's a great system for the price but it can be a bit glitchy -- meaning, sometimes I have to wait for the system to catch up to typing in directions, and sometimes it just freezes and has to be rebooted. The other annoying thing about the system is that it 'dings' whenever it gives directions. I am not sure if that feature can be turned off, but I couldn't find anything about it in the manual. [ Gina  Nov 30, 2014 ]
Yes. I feel only problem that phone has to be receved using phone only. [ DIPIKA  Nov 30, 2014 ]
Yes, it does play music while the navigation is on. The music will turn down when the navigation needs to tell you to turn. [ hyeson  Nov 30, 2014 ]
You sure can. Nice feature. [ Chris  Nov 30, 2014 ]
You sure can. Nice feature. [ Chris  Nov 30, 2014 ]
Yes it will...but I was having troube with the unit shutting down every now and then while gps and music were going at same time...had Crutchfield send me the Jensen unit and switched boss out with very good customer service might I add and haven't had a problem with Jensen unit at all...Jensen unit has great Bluetooth plus can do Pandora radio which I love...would encourage you to take Jensen unit of the same price [ PATRICK R  Nov 30, 2014 ]
    Yes [ Preyas  Nov 30, 2014 ]
Yes it will but the navigation is terrible and freezes a lot. [ Madison  Nov 30, 2014 ]
Yes. But it talks over the music when instructing you to do something. You can turn the talking off completely if you want to though [ HAYDEN  Nov 30, 2014 ]

I easily imported my entire contact list from my iPhone to the unit via bluetooth connection. Sound quality is quite good for calls. [ Scott  Sep 10, 2014 ]
    Don't know. Don't use it. [ Dennis  Sep 03, 2014 ]
Sorry, I haven't had the chance to put the radio in. [ Nicholas  Sep 02, 2014 ]
Yes it's called phone book sync. Imports address book into radio [ RashadRice  Sep 02, 2014 ]
    No doesnt have [ Marian  Sep 02, 2014 ]
sorry idk i have'nt set it up or played with the phone system yet [ janette  Sep 02, 2014 ]

I believe that you have a lockout circuit if the car is late enough. DVD use is discouraged in the manual while moving, but it also has outputs to go to a separate video screen. The users manual will discuss this more thoroughly. [ WILLIAM B  Aug 29, 2014 ]
The DVD will play only on a rear monitor if you plug in a rear monitor while the car is moving. Otherwise the in dash screen will only play with the parking brake on. The Navigation worked on this unit for the first couple of months we had it and it worked well. But recently I found that the navigation will not even turn on. [ hyeson  Aug 27, 2014 ]
I don't think it has any video outputs, only an input for a rear cam. I also think it is designed to specifically NOT play video unless the parking brake is set. [ ANN E  Aug 26, 2014 ]
Some issues (1) While GPS is on, if phone rings, I hear ring in unit but sign to take call does not pop up. I have to pull phone from purse. After that it works okay for talking hands free. (2) GPS does not find address of 50 year old government building and many. (3) if try to erase something typed for address, GPS freezes all the times. (4) GPS freezes many times, does not re-route easily like other GPS. It is installed so can not return other wise I had done so.....Completely useless. [ DIPIKA  Aug 26, 2014 ]
Hmm good question. Unfortunately that is one feature I haven't tried since I don't have young children. I would assume the DVD would play while the car is in motion....that is what is what is was designed to do. Good Luck [ Virginia T.  Aug 26, 2014 ]
No it will not. The car must be in park. It is illegal to have a movie playing in the front dash while driving. [ Madison  Aug 26, 2014 ]

Just got my unit a couple of weeks ago...not sure the answer to the question but am very happy with the customer service at Crutchfield. ..if any problems come up they are very fast at fixing it...also if you call and talk to a tech they will be able to answer the question [ PATRICK R  Jun 08, 2014 ]
Yes, the radio comes with a regular wiring harness. Crutchfield also sent me the matching harness for my car (2006 Mustang). You just need to hook the radio harness to the one that Crutchfield sends you and it is plug and play. Their customer service is great if you run into any problems. [ James Bryan  Apr 30, 2014 ]
Yes, the RCA connection wires attach to the left side of the rear of the unit and you don't need those unless you have cameras and other input devices. The wire harness you need to hook up to existing radio connection is on the right side of the rear of the unit, both wires harnesses should come together when you order them. [ Joseph  Apr 30, 2014 ]
