About the JVC KS-AX3201D

Buck Pomerantz

Bold styling keeps up with performance

JVC's DRVN Series car amplifiers are all about power… with style. These amps feature aggressive looks, strong value, and plenty of power packed into a compact, low-profile housing. The KS-AX3201D subwoofer amp, for example, can power a sub with up to 400 watts RMS, from a chassis that's roughly 8" by 7" — that'll fit in a lot of places in your vehicle.

Versatile features

The KS-AX3201D comes with the controls you need to get the bass sounding right in your vehicle. A low-pass filter with a sharp 18 dB per octave slope allows you to get. your sub meshed perfectly with the rest of your speaker system. You can use the variable bass boost to add up to 18 dB of punch at 45 Hz, while a fixed subsonic filter eliminates super-low bass so your amp and sub play more efficiently. And speaker-level inputs allow you to hook this amp to almost any car stereo, even a factory system.

Features

CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement methods for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for measuring an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N) over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4Ω. CEA-2006 allows consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers on an equal basis. Using CEA-2006 criteria, the JVC KS-AX3201D is rated as follows:

  • Power Output:
    • 4Ω: 250 watts x 1-channel
    • 2Ω: 400 watts x 1-channel
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 60 dBA

Crossover: The low-pass crossover has an 18 dB/octave slope and the crossover point is continuously variable from 50 Hz to 200 Hz. The crossover cannot be bypassed (it's not a full range amp).

Power Connections: The power and ground terminals are nickel-plated screw terminals. They will accept spade connectors or ring terminals up to 0.5" wide. The remote turn-on terminal will accept a spade connector or ring terminal up to 0.35" wide.

Speaker Connections: The speaker output (one pair) is also nickel-plated screw terminals and will accept spade connectors or ring terminals up to 0.35" wide.

Speaker Level Input: A speaker level input harness is included, making it easier to add the amplifier to a factory radio or to a receiver with no preamp outputs.

Line Level Output: The amplifier has a pair of RCA line level outputs to feed another amplifier.

Customer Q&A

Q
Does this amplifier turn itself off if no audio is going to it?

A
Yes. You have a remote wire from your stereo to the amp to tell the amp to turn off when it's not needed.

A
The thin gauge remote turn on lead controls the on/off. Typically this would be wired to the remote turn on lead of the radio. It could be wired to a switch to be controlled manually but the audio signal will not turn it on or off.

A
No, so they way I am running this amp is through a switch I installed on the Dash of my vehicle. It does not turn on when the car is on and off when the car is off. You manually have to turn it on via a switch running a powered wire to the amp. There is no switch on the amp so you have to run the switch to allow and cut off power to it.

A
No it does not, once the head unit is turned on, it triggers the amp turn on wire. It stays on regardless, audio or no audio it remains on until the head unit is cut off .
jerry b  Mar 01, 2016
A
Yes, it does support a "remote wire" input. That one connects to the car via non-constant power. Just like a normal car amplifier.
jamen  Mar 01, 2016
A
I don't know, I have the remote connection. Sorry.

Q
The JVC Rep in the video says this amp in 800 WATTS RMS X 1 but the specs here on the page say 400 WATTS RMS x 1, Which is it?

A
From the specifications that I read before purchasing this amp says the peak power is 800 watts at 400 watts RMS continuous.
jerry b  Mar 01, 2016
A
I have this amp and it is pretty strong. Missing the remote bass adjust is all
jamen  Mar 01, 2016
A
Max. Power Output of 800W Continuous Power Output: 250W x 1 at 4 ohms, 400W x 1 at 2 ohms it depends what is the speaker you use. is the speaker a 2ohms or 4 ohms
